    PERCEPTIONS OF LEARNERS, TEACHERS, AND THE COMMUNITY ON THE IMPACT OF MUSEUM PROGRAMS IN SUPPORTING SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULA IN THE FREE STATE PROVINCE

    Museums possess significant potential to inspire, educate, and engage learners through interactive, object-based learning. However, their benefits remain underutilized in many secondary school contexts, particularly in under-resourced regions. This study investigates the perceptions of learners, teachers, and community members regarding the contribution of museum programs to secondary school curricula in the Free State Province of South Africa. Employing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with science teachers and Grade 10–12 learners from ten schools in the Xhariep District, along with selected community stakeholders. Findings revealed that while museum experiences offer substantial educational value, barriers such as logistical constraints, lack of awareness, misalignment with curricula, and socio-economic challenges hinder meaningful integration. The study advocates for strategic collaboration between museums and schools, improved outreach, and tailored educational resources to enhance accessibility and curriculum alignment. This study offers insights for educators, policymakers, and museum practitioners on strengthening educational outcomes through informal learning environments

    DEVELOPMENT AND PRELIMINARY VALIDATION OF THE EMO-EMS QUESTIONNAIRE FOR ASSESSING EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE IN PRE-HOSPITAL EMERGENCY AND MOUNTAIN RESCUE OPERATIONS

    Emotional competence is crucial for the safety, effectiveness and well-being of prehospital emergency personnel, especially in demanding contexts such as helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and mountain rescue operations. The purpose of this study is to develop and preliminarily validate the EMO-EMS, a new questionnaire specifically designed to measure emotional regulation and empathy in this professional setting. The EMO-EMS was developed through literature review, consultation with experts and cognitive interviews with both EMS and HEMS professionals (pilots, hoist operators, nurses, mountain rescuers and physicians). The instrument comprises 24 items reflecting eight dimensions: attentional deployment, reappraisal (while and after the call), suppression (while and after the call), emotional empathy (positive and negative emotions), and cognitive empathy. Data are being collected from a national sample of Italian emergency and mountain rescue personnel, together with well-established measures of emotional regulation (DERS, ERQ), and empathy (EQ, IRI) in order to examine convergent validity. Analyses will examine reliability, construct validity and correlation with external criteria. Data collection is still ongoing. Descriptive statistics and internal consistency estimates will be reported at the conference, along with preliminary evidence of construct validity. The EMO-EMS aims to offer a valid and reliable questionnaire addressing the specific needs of EMS and mountain rescue environments, for research, training and personnel selection purposes. Future studies will complete the validation process, including test–retest reliability and the ability to predict operational performance

    Background: The malaria diagnostic methods developed to date all require blood to be taken. However, blood sampling can be an obstacle because some people are reluctant to have their blood sample taken because of the sting of needle (especially when blood sampling is repeated) or even because blood is taboo. Saliva, which is minimally invasive to collect, offers an alternative way of overcoming this obstacle. The aim of this study was to use saliva to monitor Plasmodium falciparum resistance to pyrimethamine at three sites in southern Côte d'Ivoire. Methodology: Blood and saliva samples were collected in three different localities from 94 patients over 2 years of age with microscopically confirmed uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. P. falciparum genomic DNA was then extracted and amplified by nested PCR using primers specific to pfdhfr (Plasmodium falciparum dihydrofolate synthethase) gene. The amplification products were sequenced using the Sanger method. After sequencing, the prevalences of pfdhfr mutations (N51I, C59R, S108N) confirmed to be involved in pyrimethamine resistance in P. falciparum were determined. Data were analysed using R statistical software, version 3.2.2. Results: After amplification, 153 DNA fragments of pfdhfr gene were sequenced including 86 fragments of blood DNA and 67 fragments of salivary DNA. In blood, 65 (75.58%), 66 (76.74%) and 81 (94.18%) DNA fragments were successfully sequenced, compared with 57 (85.07%), 58 (86.56%) and 63 (94.02%) in saliva for the N51I, C59R and S108N mutations respectively. Sequences analysis indicated that mutations in pfdhfr gene were observed at prevalences of 61.53% (N51I), 54.54% (C59R) and 74.07% (S108N) in blood compared with 49.12% (N51I), 63.79% (C59R) and 79.36 (S108N) in saliva. No significant difference was observed between the prevalence of gene mutations in the two biological products (p=0.44). Molecular analysis showed that the susceptible haplotype NCS (51N59C108S) was observed in 17 of the 153 isolates, with a prevalence of 13.96% (12/86) in blood compared with 7.46% (5/67) in saliva. The IRN (51I59R108N) triple mutant haplotype was observed in 48 of the 153 isolates with a prevalence of 31.4% (27/86) in blood compared with 31.34 (21/67) in saliva. The prevalences of the IRN triple mutant did not differ significantly in blood and saliva (p = 0.685). Conclusion: Polymorphism study of pfdhfr gene showed that the prevalences of genotypes conferring resistance to pyremethamine (P) reached comparable levels in blood and saliva isolates. Thus, more than a decade after the adoption of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) as intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) for pregnant women in Côte d'Ivoire, prevalence of the Asn-108 allele and the IRN triple mutant haplotype in blood and saliva were relatively high in Anonkoua-kouté, Port- bouët and Ayamé

Although personal and contextual factors are really important in order for teachers to apply formative assessment practices, it seems that studies and systematic analysis about this topic are rare. This literature review aims to shed light on the relationship between self-efficacy as an important personal factor in implementing formative assessment and formative assessment itself.     The topics of wine and health are two disciplines that should be researched together and put in the focus of the given destination. The Hungarian Tokaj wine region has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. The eponymous settlement Tokaj won the award for the best European tourist settlement and the wine region is a member of the European organization Viour. The destination has a development council, which also has a labor union. This team coordinates major investments in the wine region, including major tourism developments. At the municipality of Tokaj, tourism plays a prominent role, where there are tourism experts. In the city of Tokaj, there is a destination management organization and a tourinform, the task of which is to ensure the conditions for hosting tourists and to support tourists. He also has administrative, statistical and management tasks. The tourism operation of the area is a good practice and with the implementation of the "Essencia főtér" program, the city, the administrative center, enters a new dimension. Wine and health, wine culture, viticulture, winemaking and the attractions, restaurants, accommodation and infrastructure of the destination all operate in accordance with the principle of innovative new tourism. The new structure of tourism management is the focus of the research and the scientific article as well as the presentation, which includes both operative and strategic elements. The methodology is literature review and in-depth interview. In the case of the former, the author examines both domestic and international expertise and best practices. &nbsp

    THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HIGH BORROWING AND LOW AVAILABILITY OF QUALITY GOVERNMENT SERVICES IN KUWAIT

    Kuwait is famous for its oil reserves, which make it one of the richest countries in the world. However, its public services, including healthcare, housing, education, and infrastructure, lack quality. This has led to citizens borrowing heavily to compensate for the deficiency in public services. This research paper aims to study the relationship between high borrowing among citizens and the low quality of public services, focusing on healthcare, the lack of street maintenance, the low level of education, the shortage of recreational cities, and the failure to provide adequate housing care. Methodology: This study used a mixed method approach, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study relies on secondary data from the Central Bank of Kuwait, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Public Works to obtain information on citizens' borrowing behavior and the quality of public services. The study also relies on a public opinion survey of citizen borrowers to obtain their views on the impact of low-quality public services on their borrowing behavior. Results: The results of the data analysis showed that the study population is not satisfied with the public services provided by the state, and that citizens' motives for borrowing are related to obtaining better housing services and spending on private health and education services

    LIGHTING IN CINEMATIC VIRTUAL REALITY

    With the emergence of inexpensive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) systems in recent years, VR has become commercially viable and more widely popular with some 200 million users worldwide. An important role in this take-up has been the development of cinematic virtual reality (CVR). As in any imagery, lighting design is one of the crucial elements in CVR that can greatly enhance the immersive experience in creating a desired look and feel and an engaging environment for the viewers to explore. However, there is currently very limited research on how set lighting can be and is used in CVR productions. This paper aims to fill this gap by reviewing the prevalent concepts for set lighting 360-degree videos which are companioned by examples by studying an existing CVR drama genre experience Wiktoria 1920. This paper investigates four set lighting strategies used in CVR: natural or ambient lighting, practical lighting, hidden lighting, and mixed lighting.&nbsp

    DEVELOPMENT OF TOOLS AND SAMPLE GROUPS FOR SURVEYS: A CASE STUDY OF PUBLIC MEDIA IN THAILAND IN EVALUATING ACCESS AND THE ROLE OF PUBLIC MEDIA

    This survey research outlines the development of tools, the determination of sample groups for data collection in surveys, the monitoring of media access, and the public’s opinion regarding the role of public media.  The tools used in the survey include the following: (1) A survey form for evaluating media access and the role of public media; and (2) Interview guidelines for specific groups. All tools were quality-checked, tested, and refined over three rounds to ensure they were suitable for tracking surveys and monitoring. The sample group for the survey in this research consists of a total of 8,695 people age 15 or over, residing in five regions of Thailand: Bangkok and vicinity, Central Region, Northern Region, Northeastern Region, and Southern Region. The sample includes members of the general population who consume public media, as well as specific groups such as the Voiceless group, Civic Citizen group, and Opinion Leader group. The process of developing the tools and defining sample groups underwent rigorous academic procedures, including three rounds of pre-tests and real-world testing over the course of one year. Results from these tests were reviewed, compared, and adjusted to create a reliable tool for evaluating media access and the role of public media in the third round. After developing the tools and defining the sample groups for the survey, and after real-world testing, a summary and proposal for a tracking survey framework for Thai public media are also presented. &nbsp

    UNLOCKING POTENTIAL: A STUDY ON THE POSITIVE IMPACTS OF ROBOTICS AND CODING PROGRAMS FOR NEURODIVERSE CHILDREN – INSIGHTS FROM AN EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION

    Children with neurodiverse diagnoses, such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, frequently encounter specific problems in cognitive and social development. In a world where neurodiverse children frequently confront unique developmental problems, using robots and coding to unlock their amazing potential can pave the way for a more inclusive and innovative future. This research seek insights into the potential benefits of integrating robotics and coding into the educational programs of neurodiverse children. A study was done in collaboration with Kids Innovative Africa in Cape Town, with a diverse sample of 30 participants, aged 7 to 18 years, to assess the impact of a robotics and coding enducational intervention on cognitive and social development in this very specific and often underserved demographic. The Positive Technological Development framework was used as the main theoretical framework. The performance on a variety of abilities was assessed before, during and after the intervention. The research combines quantitative data analysis, such as descriptive statistics, correlational analysis, t-tests, and ANOVA, with qualitative data gathered from in-depth interviews with coaches.The quantitative study demonstrates that the participants' cognitive and social abilities have improved significantly. Effective communication, collaborative skills, presentation skills, problem solving, confidence, and technical areas such as artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, and programming show substantial growth. Correlational research reveals complex correlations between various abilities, offering information on their interconnections. The qualitative study emphasises the development of problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as improved peer interactions and the development of one's own creativity. Participants reported enhanced self-esteem, confidence, emotional well-being, and improved communication skills.The findings highlight the significant benefits of robotics and coding in promoting cognitive and social development in neurodiverse children. This study contributes to a better understanding of the benefits of using these technologies into educational programmes, perhaps opening up new paths for fair development and inclusive learning settings. Future research can build on these findings to better customise therapies for neurodiverse children and help them grow more fully

    This paper explores the intersection of neuroscience, technology, and movement through a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning in the project titled "Centering the Center." This project reimagines classroom methodologies by using performance art to translate abstract concepts into visual, auditory, and movement-based experiences. By bridging neuroscience, technology, and dance, it offers an innovative model for embodied learning that engages both cognitive and sensory understanding. A central element of the project is the use of real-time brain mapping technologies to track neural activity during performances. The resulting data points are transformed into dynamic learning experiences, enabling learners to engage in immersive and participatory educational practices. This integration of live data and performance art introduces a novel teaching methodology for multidisciplinary learning.The paper also examines how pedagogical frameworks can shift from traditional educational constructs to sensory engagement through dance movement. This methodology enables learners to translate complex concepts into collective experiences that are both artistically and intellectually stimulating.Through interactive installations, data-driven performances, and immersive virtual experiences, the project presents a multidisciplinary framework that fosters empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to translate abstract knowledge into embodied understanding. This transformative learning approach—where critical reflection, experiential learning, and non-linear discourse converge—expands the boundaries of traditional pedagogy and redefines how we teach, learn, and engage with the complexities of the human condition in the classroom
