A STUDY OF SEEPAGE THROUGH HOMOGENOUS EARTH DAMS WITH VERTICAL DRAIN
This research paper aims to study the effect of drain vertical on seepage characteristics (free water surface, seepage face length and seepage discharge) through earth dams based an pervious base. This investigation concerns to study the quantity of seepage through homogenous earth dam with the experimental method by sand box model and the using computer program SEEP/W (which is a sub-program of Geo-Studio). Also, the effect of position of filters on seepage characteristic was included, the influence of the conditions of the length of the horizontal drain and the slope of the upstream on the drainage process. It was observed that there is a dependency between seepage flow, the length of the horizontal drain, the water head and the slope of the upstream slope and the best location of drain. Finally a comparative study of the experimental data with results obtained by numerical simulation performed with SEEP/W was carried out
YU YING-SHI'S UNDERSTANDING OF BUDDHISM AND HIS DISCUSSION OF THE NEW ZEN BUDDHISM
Yu Ying-shi is a distinguished contemporary historian who has had significant engagement with Buddhism and Zen from his youth into his later years, with numerous writings addressing Buddhism and Zen topics. He fundamentally affirms that Buddhist doctrine is an important spiritual resource in the modern world. He believes that while Buddhism primarily advocates for renunciation of the world, the new Zen Buddhism shifts towards "worldly asceticism," having a profound impact.Yu's understanding of Buddhism can be summarized in four key points: First, Buddhism is a highly developed and complex philosophical system. Second, Buddhism has integrated into Chinese culture through the reception of Daoist thought and has spread widely. Third, the high monks of Buddhism embody a "scholar's" aspiration to "rescue all beings",which is deserving of respect. Fourth, Buddhism has an intangible influence, particularly the Mahayana spirit, which aids in the realization of the "inner sage" and "outer king".Regarding his evaluation of the new Zen Buddhism, it can be encapsulated in five points: First, Huineng established a new Zen Buddhism of revolutionary significance. Second, the core spirit of the new Zen Buddhism is "worldly asceticism".Third, the new Zen Buddhism advocates for a "not adhering and not separating" approach to transcendent world and real life. Fourth, the new Zen Buddhism stimulated the rise of Neo-Confucianism during the Song and Ming dynasties. Fifth, the new Zen Buddhism emphasizes "directly pointing to the mind", highlighting the role of the heart. In his view, the new Zen Buddhism's shift towards the world combines the concepts of this shore and the other shore, resembling Western Protestant ethics. In comparison, the new Zen Buddhism proposed the idea of "worldly asceticism" earlier than Protestant Christianity, but in terms of historical and social impact, Protestantism undoubtedly has had a greater influence
SCREENING POST-COLONIALISM AND RED SCARE ABOUT THE 1950S MALAYAN EMERGENCY IN “THE 7TH DAWN” (1964)
The goal of my paper is to examine the movie “The 7th Dawn (1964)”, directed by British filmmaker Lewis Gilbert (1920-2018) and distributed by United Artists. Based on the novel The Durian Tree (1960) by Australian writer Michael Keon (1918-2006), the film is set during Malaysia's process of independence from Britain in the 1950s. I argue that “The 7th Dawn (1964)” displays sympathies for the peaceful methods of opposing colonialism, stigmatization for the repressive methods of the British but, at the same time, emphasize the existence of the widespread belief in various Western European countries and in USA that independence movements in Southeast Asia were actually a way of creating a communist system in that part of the worl
CULTIVATING RESILIENCE: MINDFULNESS, ACCEPTANCE, AND GRATITUDE-BASED INTERVENTIONS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR IMMIGRANTS
Immigrants and refugees often face profound challenges and losses that are difficult to overcome. Feelings of isolation, the loss of homeland, disconnection from family and friends, and a lack of belonging are some of the obstacles that can lead to stress or even despair. Additionally, therapeutic approaches that fail to account for cultural differences, as well as the unique expectations and sense of agency of immigrants and refugees, may result in less effective treatment outcomes. However, therapies based on acceptance, mindfulness, and gratitude have demonstrated an ability to bridge cultural gaps and empower individuals to regain a sense of agency while addressing the mental health challenges linked to their immigration experiences. These strength-based interventions align well with various therapeutic models, including humanistic and existential therapies, which serve as two examples of psychotherapy approaches that can effectively incorporate acceptance, mindfulness, and gratitude. A point of caution is that gratitude-based approaches do not overlook the suffering of immigrants. Instead, they help reframe their experiences as opportunities, enabling them to tap into their resilience and cultivate self-compassion. This paper will explore specific treatment strategies using acceptance, mindfulness, and gratitude to help immigrants and refugees navigate the mental health difficulties they face

LECTURE-GROUNDED CHATGPT-4 TUTOR: ENHANCING ADULT LEARNER ENGAGEMENT IN DISTANCE LEARNING
Adult learners in remote university programs often struggle with engagement and satisfaction due to limited real-time interaction and support. This presentation introduces an AI-powered learning tutor that leverages ChatGPT-4 in a context-restricted manner, operating strictly within the instructor’s lecture materials and spoken content. By grounding the AI’s knowledge solely in the course textbooks, slides, transcripts, and other instructor-provided materials, the system delivers domain-specific support that is aligned with the curriculum and instructor’s intent. This controlled knowledge scope is a key innovation: it mitigates the usual pitfalls of generative AI (such as misinformation or irrelevant “hallucinations”) by ensuring answers remain faithful to the course content. The AI tutor functions as a virtual teaching assistant, available 24/7 to answer questions and engage in dialogue about the lecture topics. Adult learners can thus seek help at any time without fear of judgment, asking questions they might hesitate to pose to a human instructor. This on-demand, non-judgmental support has been observed to boost learner confidence and promote deeper exploration of course material. Early classroom deployments of the tutor have yielded increased student engagement and satisfaction: the AI’s ability to hold extended conversations within the bounds of the courseware has enhanced learners’ cognitive engagement and the sense of an instructor presence in remote classes. Learners reported feeling more supported and motivated, and instructors noted students coming to class better prepared. We also discuss the pedagogical implications of constraining an AI tutor’s knowledge scope. This approach empowers educators to maintain content control and uphold academic standards while still harnessing AI’s scalability and responsiveness. Instructors can focus on higher-order mentoring as routine FAQs are handled by the AI, illustrating a new model of human–AI collaboration in education. Our findings highlight that a lecture-grounded ChatGPT-4 tutor can significantly enhance engagement and satisfaction among adult learners in remote settings, offering a promising pathway to more interactive, inclusive, and effective online learning experiences
WEB ATTACK DETECTION COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF LSTM AND DNN-BASED DEFENSE MODELS WITH CORRESPONDENCE ANALYSIS: Received: 28th January 2025, Revised: 8th February 2025, Accepted: 22nd February 2025 Date of Publication: 28th February 2025
Recently since there exists more companies using web, web attacks to hijacking or manipulate the privacy information have increased. Among web vulnerability OWASP has introduced, SQL injection, XSS, File Inclusion have constantly occurred through more than a decade. It concludes that web servers have trouble with blocking old-fashioned web vulnerabilities. This paper is going to skim through web attack defending methods and compares existing web attack detection machine learning models and new ensemble model DPL with ANOVA, chi-square analysis, correspondence analysis to find out relativity between model and web attack. As result of correspondence analysis, brand new model DPL excels existing models but even DPL model have low relativity on XSS. It is expected that post research must introduce more XSS relevant model
DISCRETE ELEMENT METHOD SIMULATION OF CONTACT EVOLUTION IN GRANULAR JAMMING GRIPPERS
Granular jamming grippers are a versatile and adaptable alternative for object manipulation in soft robotics (Amend et al., 2012; Brown et al., 2010; Shintake et al., 2018). Their operating principle is based on taking advantage of the variable stiffness of granular material when a vacuum is applied. This technology allows for adapting to complex geometries without the need for sensors or active control, making it especially useful for fragile or irregularly shaped objects (Delaney & Cleary, 2010). While progress has been made in topics such as the influence of grains on gripper performance, the influence of membranes, applications with fluids other than water, and collaborative robotics applications, the precise nature of contacts between the granular material and the target body during the grasping process remains unclear due to low visibility. Using discrete element method (DEM) simulations, an ovoid gripper containing the granular material is assembled, the interaction with the target body is simulated, and a vacuum is applied to achieve granular jamming (Dierks et al., 2025). This work aims to present an analysis of surface affectation on the target body, as well as its relationship with the granular material used in the gripper, modeling the target bodies with computer aided design (CAD) tools and simulating the interactions of the particles with discrete element method (DEM) it is evidenced that the contacts are concentrated in specific areas of the target body, depending on its geometry, and evolve as the gripper performs vertical displacement on the object, manifesting behaviors such as local interlocks and non-contact zones that change the total contact area and vary the grip force. These findings mark an improvement path for future designs of granular jamming grippers, as well as the integration of DEM simulations in early stages of adaptive manipulation device development
TREATING CHRONIC SCHIZOPHRENIA AND COMPLEX TRAUMA THROUGH JUNGIAN DREAMWORK: A PRISON-BASED CASE STUDY
This case study documents the integrative treatment of a woman with chronic schizophrenia, complex PTSD, and comorbid anxiety and depression, incarcerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her primary symptoms included persistent hallucinations, trauma-driven nightmares, and emotional dysregulation. Traumatic themes of incest, supernatural forces, and violent dream figures dominated her inner world, exacerbated by institutional isolation, grief over a deceased brother, and unresolved family betrayal. Treatment combined Jungian dreamwork, guided hypnagogic induction, symbolic reframing, and trauma-focused narrative therapy. Hallucinatory content was interpreted as disowned psychic fragments; she was taught lucid dreaming, meditative coping skills, and dream preparation rituals. Through these techniques, she gained increasing agency in her dream life and began re-integrating dissociated parts of the self. Art assignments and metaphor-based dialogues enabled her to visualize and confront the “poltergeist” figure (a symbolic condensation of unresolved trauma and fear). Parallel work focused on dismantling distorted family loyalty and confronting historical abuse. She ultimately rejected financial dependency on her abuser, reasserted personal boundaries, and re-engaged with psychiatric care after initial resistance to medication. Her hallucinations diminished, and she reframed residual trauma as material for growth rather than doom. This case illustrates the power of symbolic and integrative interventions in treating schizophrenia complicated by developmental trauma. It further highlights the therapeutic challenges and innovations necessitated by pandemic-era incarceration
SLEEP ON MONEY? A TAM-BASED STUDY ON THE ADOPTION INTENTION OF OPEN BANKING IN TAIWAN
Although Taiwan has promoted Open Banking policies and technologies, the penetration of these services remains relatively low. Understanding the factors that influence adoption intention is crucial to developing more user-oriented services. While prior research on Open Banking has primarily focused on technical feasibility and regulatory frameworks, studies from the consumer perspective are still limited. This study applies the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and incorporates perceived risk as an external factor to examine what drives or inhibits Open Banking adoption among Taiwanese consumers. A total of 290 valid responses were collected via an online survey. Path analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that most of the core TAM constructs exhibit significantly positive correlations, supporting the model’s explanatory power. Among six dimensions of perceived risk, only Psychological Risk exhibits significant negative influence, suggesting that lack of confidence or not align with user habit may reduce adoption intention. The findings provide practical implications for both supervisors and financial institutions. Enhancing consumer education and improving user experience (UX) design will help alleviate concerns and build trust, thereby advancing wider adoption of Open Banking services
