Academic Benchmarking and the Provision of Quality Secondary Education in Tanzania
The study explored the use of academic benchmarking in the provision of quality education in Tanzania secondary schools. The study found that the ABM process plays a significant role in ensuring the provision of quality education through internal assessment, comparisons, and adoption of best practices from benchmarked schools. The findings disclosed that the secondary education system in Tanzania uses academic benchmarking to inform decision-making. Further, the findings disclose that six types of academic benchmarking are utilised in Tanzanian secondary schools. The study concludes that the academic benchmarking process enhances the provision of quality education since it affects future performance and commitments to work on the goals, vision and mission of secondary schools. Furthermore, academic benchmarking helps to make comparisons and sustain school performance
Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Sudden Implementation of the Synchronous Online Course: Findings of a Mixed Method Study
Tragedies are neither sought nor requested. Unfortunately, they happen and affect all areas of life, especially education. However, they leave lessons that work to face new challenges. This study aims to analyze the transition from classroom classes to distance classes due to an earthquake that hit Mexico City in 2017, damaging its buildings and infrastructure, to find the necessary aspects for an efficient transition in these cases. Faculty members were interviewed about their views during the transition. The student’s grades were also compared. Student responses were analyzed in the teacher satisfaction surveys. According to the results, a statistical model was finally generated to establish a correlation between the studied factors. A model was obtained with four clusters in which different teacher profiles are grouped. Young teachers with excellent technology management or experienced teachers with good use of technology and who are very well trained is the profile required for an efficient transition. This study served as a basis to meet the contingencies, which allowed the establishment of a more expeditious and efficient online educational system
Efficiency Assessment on Codified Knowledge Products: An SFA Approach
Knowledge applied to innovation is increasingly recognized as an explanatory factor of economic growth. Innovation derives from applying knowledge to generate new products or processes. National Innovation Systems (NIS) performs as the formal or informal network of people within institutions, interacting to produce and apply knowledge to innovation. NIS can be understood as two subsystems: one based on scientifical and technological work, producing codified products (publications and patents), and the other centered on practical actions to diffuse, apply, and use knowledge. Our objective is to assess cost efficiency in the production of codified knowledge outputs (CKO), being our unit of analysis NIS (countries). To attain our goal, we apply a Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to estimate a cost frontier of CKO. The sample is a panel that includes 1189 observations, for 23 years (1996-2019), and 82 countries. Bidirectional Braille-speech Communication System for Deafblind Students
Deafblindness is a type of dual disability wherein both visual and auditory capabilities are significantly impaired. Special communication methods have been developed for the deafblind community, yet these methods require that both people involved have prior knowledge and training to successfully communicate; limiting deafblind people’s social interactions, particularly in academic settings. This paper describes the development of a device that enables two-way communication between a severe to profoundly deafblind user and a hearing person with no prior knowledge of Braille and no additional intermediaries. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) scheme for speech recognition was designed and implemented along with the development of an algorithm capable of developing both text-to-speech and Finger-Braille-to-text conversion. Lastly, a system integration via 3D modelling and additive manufacturing was carried out to deliver a functional prototype. The resulting device aims to allow deafblind students to send and receive information entirely in finger Braille, using buttons and vibrotactile feedback, while the hearing tutor receives auditory messages and speaks to reply, making the educational experience as familiar as possible for both parties. Users testing the device achieved an average typing accuracy of over 95% and demonstrated understanding of commands transmitted through the device’s components. 
Motivation and Behavioral Engagement: The Mediating Role of Mathematics Self-Efficacy in Primary Education
The primary objective of this study is to explore the interrelation between motivation, self-efficacy, and behavioral engagement in primary school mathematics learning. This study also examines the mediating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between motivation and behavioral engagement. The research involved 660 fifth and sixth grade students in four schools in Surabaya, Indonesia. The data collected was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The study revealed that motivation is key to enhancing students’ self-efficacy and behavioral engagement during mathematics learning. Additionally, self-efficacy was found to be linked with students’ behavioral engagement. Furthermore, self-efficacy was identified as a mediator in the relationship between motivation toward mathematics and behavioral engagement during mathematics learning. The study provides valuable insights into these variables in the Indonesian context, particularly in elementary schools for mathematics learning. The research also discusses the implications of the study for teaching practices
The Relationship Between High School Students' Perceptions of Role Modeling and Self-Regulation for Science
Role models are key to the development of self-regulation skills. The study aimed to develop a model that shows the relationship between high school students' role-modeling perceptions and self-regulation skills. In the study, the predictive correlation design of the quantitative research method was used. The sample of the study consisted of 362 high school students studying at a public high school and agreeing to participate in the research. The research data were collected with the "Perceived Role Models Scale" and the "Self-regulation Scale for Science". As a result, a model was developed showing that the reproduction, retention, and motivation dimensions of high school students' role modeling perceptions were statistically significant predictors of science self-regulation. This result proved that role models were important in developing high school students' self-regulation skills. Therefore, it could be argued that the development of self-regulation that begins at an early age is a lifelong process. The results of the study can be a reference point for research that will examine the relationship between the sub-dimensions of self-regulation and role modeling perception in depth
Development of Computer-Based Chemical Five-Tier Diagnostic Test Instruments: A Generalized Partial Credit Model
This study focuses on developing a five-tier chemical diagnostic test based on a computer-based test with 11 assessment categories with an assessment score from 0 to 10. A total of 20 items produced were validated by education experts, material experts, measurement experts, and media experts and obtained an average index of the Aiken test > 0.70. The validation results were tested on 580 respondents and analyzed using the Generalized Partial Credit Model (GPCM) Item Response Theory (IRT) type. The results of the analysis show that all of the items meet the requirements to be said to be valid for the model; the evidence of the value this: RMSEA < 0.08, CFI > 0.87, SRMR < 0.10, GFI > 0.90, NFI > 0.90, NNFI > 0.90, IFI > 0.90, TLI > 0.90, and RFI > 0.90, and all items were obtained has a p.S_X2 value greater than 0.05 which indicates that all items developed are fit and by the GPCM model. The construct reliability (CR) value is 0.99, which suggests the construct is reliable. The most challenging item is item 9, and the most accessible item is item
Does Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Drive Entrepreneurial Intention and Students’ Business Preparation? Lesson from Indonesia
Finding the way out for new business creation has been a global issue and the Indonesian government responded to this issue by promoting the entrepreneurship program for students. For this matter, understanding the role of entrepreneurial ecosystem can be used to design and promote business from universities students. This study employed structural equation modeling with partial least square to raise understanding among variables. This study involved entrepreneurial ecosystem to explain the intention for business among university Indonesian students. The findings indicate that entrepreneurial ecosystem robustly links with students’ entrepreneurial intention and new business creation. This study confirms that access to finance, government programs and support, access to physical infrastructure factors, education and training factors are crucial for determining Indonesian university students’ business. The theoretical and practical implications were provided in this research
Empowering Futures: Unveiling the Impact of Career Readiness on Job Seeker and Creator through Self-Efficacy
Factors that represent the tendency to become job creators are proxied to entrepreneurial characteristics. Meanwhile, factors that represent career readiness include digital literacy, entrepreneurial mindset, work skills, and ICT skills. A population of economic education undergraduate students teaching at universities in Indonesia was used, using 455 samples. Later, the data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with the IBM-SPSS AMOS 26 program. The findings prove that career readiness is not only important for job seekers but also necessary for those who will become job creators. From the hypothesis test, career readiness has a partial influence on the tendency to become a job seeker and job creator among undergraduate economic education students. The positive coefficient indicates that increasing career readiness can significantly increase the propensity to seek and create jobs. This research opens the view that work skills are also needed to make students become job creators. Therefore, this research has essential meaning as a blueprint for educational institutions to incorporate career development into their academic programs
E-Learning in Kuwait: Students’ Perspective
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has wreaked havoc on societies around the world and continues to do so and produced cataclysmic socio-economic challenges. This virus compelled countries to enact restrictive policies in order to combat, defend, and prevent against the spread of infection. In most nations, including Kuwait, a complete lockdown was imposed, with necessary measures taken to limit social gatherings, wear protective masks, and encourage social distancing. Businesses, organizations, and institutions have been forced to discover new avenues to survive and thrive by converting to remote operation using digital technology. Similarly, the epidemic has forced educational institutions to abandon conventional face-to-face instruction in favor of online digital learning. The goal of this study is to assess the online learning process in Kuwait from the perspective of students. In this regard, a survey questionnaire was designed and distributed to students throughout Kuwait; 830 students responded, with just 500 students with complete answers. In light of the dangerous and widespread of the harmful virus, analysis found that students consent to online learning. However, most prefer face-to-face instruction in a classroom setting
