    Women’s Health Under Sustainable Development Goal 5: A Neglected Discourse

    Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) contemplates minimizing the gap between men and women and achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls by the year 2030. It categorizes the goal of gender equality and empowerment of all women into nine more sub-divisions. Target 6 talk about to “Ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences.” As per the World Health Organization, right to health must be ensured to every person, it states that "the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political beliefs, economic or social conditions.” However, research has shown that how this basic human right is being denied to women in the name of socio-religious & cultural beliefs which are responsible for deterioration of women’s health altogether. Socially, women are considered powerless and weaker sex. Culturally, they have to be at all times in the service of every member of the household and as such, are the last person to be bothered about. And biologically, as the structure of women’s body does not remain as static as of men rather it undergoes to drastic change with the growth of their age where a woman has to face myriads of health related issues owing to her sexual and reproductive organs, instead of addressing these health issues medically, people often choose to overlook it as their mind consider such issues as “women’s problem” about which one cannot do anything as if she is destined to develop these health problems just because she is a woman. This paper critically analyzes the health status of women in India and also suggests for a good healthcare system to achieve the goal of gender equality as given in Sustainable Development Goal 5

    Research of Species Composition of Bovine Piroplasmosis and its Distribution in the South of Kazakhstan

    Context: The relevance of the stated subject of scientific research is determined by the need for rational planning and timely implementation of therapeutic and prophylactic measures with cattle in different geographical regions to prevent the spread of ticks and develop an objective understanding of the real features of the epizootic situation in these regions. Object: This scientific research aims to explore the species composition of bovine piroplasmosis and its distribution in the Turkestan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Methods: This research combines species identification of ixo did ticks with practical examination and regular collection from cattle during the pasture season to determine tick species and pasture tickiness, conducted at Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University, the regional veterinary laboratory, and farms in the Turkestan region. Results: During this scientific research, practical results were obtained, indicating the main trends in the species composition and development of dynamics of the distribution of Bovine theileriosis on the territory of the Turkestan region. The research results and conclusions are highly significant for livestock farm workers in the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, aiding in cattle health management and epidemic prevention

    Characterization of Cellular Immune System at Different Ages in Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

    In recent years, there has been an increased interest in understanding the immune system of the water buffalo due to the increased economic impact of this species. The study aimed to perform an in-depth evaluation of lymphoid and myeloid cells in water buffalo of different ages. We assess three multicolor panels of antibodies to evaluate by flow cytometry the percentage of the CD3+ CD4+, CD8+, and γδ T lymphocytes; CD79+ and CD21+ B lymphocytes; monocytes and cM, intM, and ncMsubsets; NK cells, granulocytes, and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC). Seventy-eight animals from three different farms were divided into three groups by age (26 in each group): 80-100 days old calves, 16-18 months old heifers, and 4-6 years old cows. Significant differences by Kruskal-Wallis test were found between age groups in the percentage of CD4+, CD8+, γδ T lymphocytes, NK cells (P=0.0001), total monocytes (P=0.0008), granulocytes (P=0.0358) and PBMC (P=0.0056). Between the farms, the adult animals showed differences in the percentage ofCD3+ (P=0.0152), CD4+ (P=0.0047), CD8+ (P=0.0019), CD4:CD8 ratio (P=0.0033) and γδ (P=0.0013) T lymphocytes; CD21+ B lymphocytes (P=0.0007);total monocytes (P=0.0100), cM and ncM subsets (P=0.0320;P=0.0252), granulocytes (P=0.0030) and PBMC (P=0.0120). The calves showed significant differences in CD79+ and CD21+ B lymphocytes (P=0.0141; P=0.0049), total monocytes (P=0.0010), cM, intM and ncM subsets (P=0.0335; P=0.0499; P=0.0065). The heifers group in CD21+ B subset (P=0.0439).In summary, this study provides the composition of lymphoid and myeloid cells in this species for the first time, highlighting large differences between age groups and between different herds

    Prevalence of Dehydration in Egyptian Primary School Children and its Impact on their Cognitive Performance

    Background: The majority of children globally, over 75%, do not meet the water intake recommendations set by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). More than 80% of children in Europe drink less water than the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) guidelines suggest. Hydration has been linked to cognitive performance in school-aged children living in hot climates, affecting visual attention, memory span, semantic flexibility, and arithmetic skills. This study aimed to assess the hydration status of Egyptian primary school children and its relation to cognitive function. Results: The study included 200 children aged 9-13 years from various schools in Cairo. A questionnaire and a "fluids and liquid food" diary were used to collect data on beverage consumption. Hydration status was determined using a self-reported urine color scale. Only 54 children (27%) had adequate knowledge of proper water intake, while 146 children (73%) did not. According to EFSA guidelines, 166 children (83%) reported low water intake, and 34 children (17%) had adequate intake. Dehydration was found in 118 children (59%), with 34 children (17%) severely dehydrated. There was a significant positive correlation between total fluid intake and cognitive functions, including visual attention, memory, search, and visuomotor performance (p<0.001). International school students had higher water intake during school hours and overall daily intake than students from local public schools. The most consumed fluids after water were sugar-sweetened beverages and fruit juices. Conclusions: The study highlights a significant gap in knowledge and practice regarding adequate water intake among Egyptian primary school children. A considerable number of children (83%) consumed inadequate daily fluid intake, with only 17% meeting EFSA guidelines. A significant negative correlation between total fluid intake and urine color indicates hydration status. The positive correlation between hydration and cognitive function underscores the importance of promoting proper hydration to enhance cognitive performance. Educational interventions are needed to improve water intake habits among children

    Cybercrime and Strain Theory: An Examination of Online Crime and Gender

    Purpose: Historically, cybercrime has been seen as a near exclusively male activity. We were interested to learn whether the relationship between strain and crime holds for both males and females. Methods: We utilized an online survey instrument to collect data from a national sample of individuals (n=2,121) representing the US population by age, gender, race and ethnicity. We asked offending related questions regarding various cybercrimes. In the current study, we use data from 390 individuals who reported a cybercrime activity within the past 12 months. Results: We find strong support for prior strains correlating with both specific (e.g., illegal uploading) and general cyber-offending. We further examine whether gender interacts with strain. While general strain theory (GST) correlates with cyber-offending for both males and females, we did find a few important differences. Except for lack of trust in others and receiving unsatisfactory evaluation at school or work, there are different variables responsible for online offending for men and women. Parents’ divorcing, anonymity, and online video gaming increase cybercrime offending in women, whereas falling victim to a crime, breaking up with a significant other, and darkweb activity are correlated with cyber-offending for men. Conclusion: Although GST functions differently by gender when it comes to engaging in cyber-offending, the theory is indeed gender-specific, as different strain variables are responsible for engaging in cyber-offending in women and men. Components of general strain responsible for cyber-offending need to be further studied concerning gender. According to our results, GST is gender-specific, and these variables need to be further studied

    The Challenges and Rewards of Carrying Out Qualitative Research on the Police in the African American Community

    In this paper, we discuss the challenges and rewards of carrying out qualitative research on the police in the African American1 community. Using data drawn from interviews with seventy-seven African American adults in Durham, NC, we found that community member hostility toward research(ers) and fear of both neighbors and the police lowered African Americans’ willingness to be interviewed about their perceptions of and experiences with U.S. police. These findings were observed primarily in public housing and middle-income communities. On a positive note, we found that greater awareness of policing issues increased African Americans’ willingness to participate in research about the police. This finding was more common among upper-middle-income African Americans. The implications of our findings for future research and improved policing in the African American community are discussed

    The Impact of Practical Skills on Improving the Servicemen’s Preparedness to Act in Case of Radiation Contamination of the Area

    The servicemen’s practical skills to respond to threats of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks, as well as the ability to make effective decisions are necessary for the implementation of effective targeted actions in the face of military threats. The aim of the article is to identify the impact of servicemen’s decision-making skills on their preparedness to act in case of radiation contamination of the area as well as an analysis of the opportunities of skills development in the educational simulation environment. The research employed such empirical methods as: educational experiment, testing, survey, quantitative assessment, and qualitative analysis. The study of causal relationships between servicemen’s decision-making skills under Contaminated Remains Mitigation System CRMS conditions and their preparedness to act under conditions of radiation contamination made it possible to identify a set of decision-making skills that affect high, medium and low servicemen’s preparedness to act under the chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) attacks. The authors developed and tested a virtual reality training simulator for training decision-making skills in a simulated environment of potential threats using the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) situation as an example. The results of the assessment of students’ knowledge after the educational experiment showed that simulation training in virtual reality was more effective than training using educational video content. The students of the experimental group (EG) showed a 13.2 points better result (90.6 points) in decision-making accuracy than the students of the control group (CG) (77.4 points)

Despite their potential, challenges such as scalability and environmental impact must be addressed to realize widespread adoption. The research aim is to create a new composition of wood-polymer composites based on secondary raw materials with an improved set of technological, mechanical and dielectric properties, namely, the modification of the polymer matrix and the development of a new technology for its production. The optimal composition of the polymer matrix and modification influence of the wood-polymer composites polymer matrix on the physical, mechanical and dielectric properties of the samples are determined. Strength, impact resistance, abrasion, mechanical and dielectric properties are studied. A description of the climatic influences on the wood-polymer composites including the influence of moisture and temperature is given

    Cost-Benefit Analysis of Buffalo Milk Production in India

    Context: The vast resource of Indian livestock played an important role in improving the socio-economic conditions of people in rural areas. Dairying has provided strong support to stabilise the Indian economy by ensuring a certain degree of diversification and flexibility. Aim: The present study aims to analyse the costs and returns from buffalo milk production in the Punjab state of India to know about the viability of the dairy business. Methods: The present study is based on primary data collected through a detailed schedule from 420 dairy farmers belonging to different farm size categories (landless households, large, medium, small, and marginal farmers) from 21 villages situated across three different agro-climatic zones of Punjab state in 2019. A multi-stage sampling technique has been used to select the villages and dairy farmers in the study area. Key Results: The study has revealed that the total costs of buffalo milk production are ₹180.16 per day per milch buffalo. The sale of fluid milk constitutes a major component of gross returns. The net returns are calculated as ₹6.42 per litre from buffalo milk production in rural Punjab. Implications: Economic analysis of dairy farming is very important to know about the economic viability of dairy enterprises. The profitability from dairying depends upon the milk yield of dairy animals, the sale price of milk, and the cost involved in dairying. Adequate knowledge of the cost involved in dairying is important as it can be used for policy-making and also for providing incentives to dairy farmers
