Census 2001, 10% Sample
Every person present in South Africa on Census night, 9-10 October 2001, should have been enumerated in Census 2001. The enumeration primarily took place over the period of 10 October to 30 October. However, in some situations, it was necessary to continue enumeration through to November to ensure that as many people possible were included. Most respondents were interviewed, although in certain circumstances respondents were asked or allowed to complete the questionnaires themselves. Self enumeration occurred in fewer than five percent of cases
Income and Expenditure Survey, 2000
The IES is a five-yearly household survey based on the sample for the rotating panel of the twice yearly Labour force Survey (LFS). It measures the detailed income and expenditure of households. The survey was done by means of an interview with the household head or a responsible adult and the questionnaire was completed by the enumerator during this interview. In cases where the household requested to complete the questionnaire themselves, it was dropped off by the enumerator, and the completed questionnaire was collected at a second visit
