    EXPLORING THE DETERMINANTS OF BUSINESS FAILURE IN MOROCCO

    Introduction: The research on business failures has all come to the same conclusion: failing businesses are characterized by unstable financial situations. They consider that any cause leading to default can be embodied in the accounting statements and that examination of these statements is sufficient to exhaust all the factors leading to the default. Thus, the analysis of accounting and financial information makes it possible to assess the evolution of the activity of the company by analyzing the determinants that explain the phenomenon of failure in the financial, organizational, economic and managerial aspects.   Objective: This paper aims to identify the characteristics and particularities of the business failure process in the Moroccan context.   Theoretical Framework: Business failure, often manifested by insolvency, liquidation, or restructuring, results from a complex set of internal, external, and sometimes accidental factors. Analyzing the causes of this failure requires the use of several theoretical frameworks drawn from the literature on economics, management, and corporate finance.   Method: This research adopts a qualitative approach based on a literature review to analyze the main determinants of business failure. The objective is to construct a structured conceptual framework based on existing theoretical and empirical contributions, while identifying trends, convergences and divergences in the results of previous studies.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained from the literature review made it possible to identify three main sets of factors explaining business failure: financial determinants, economic determinants and strategic, managerial and organizational determinants.   Research Implications: The theoretical and practical implications of this research, based on a literature review, offer valuable perspectives for better understanding and preventing business failure: Clarify the typologies of failure factors, contribute to the consolidation of the conceptual framework, Stimulate future research.   Originality/Value: The relevance and value of this research are demonstrated by its ability to offer a clear and operational conceptual framework, capable of informing both academic research and managerial and institutional practices. By identifying the priority levers to monitor to prevent failure, it can positively influence the decision-making of managers, consultants, and public policies, thus contributing to strengthening the resilience of businesses in an uncertain economic environment

    REVIEW ON CDM IMPLEMENTATION IN THE MALAYSIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

    Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the current practices of CDM in the Malaysian construction industry, aiming to identify the barriers to its implementation and provide a foundation for actionable improvements.   Theoretical Framework: This study adopts the PRISMA framework as the foundation for conducting the systematic literature review, ensuring a structured and transparent approach to identify, select, and analyze relevant literature.   Method: The analysis method employed for the systematic literature review is deductive content analysis, enabling a structured evaluation of the data to achieve the study’s objectives.   Results and Discussion: The results indicate that implementing CDM within the Malaysian construction industry remains a work in progress. Key barriers include limited safety knowledge among designers, inadequate competency in PtD practices, procurement systems that do not effectively support collaborative efforts, and the inherent nature of the industry.   Research Implications: The results of this study highlight the need to enhance procurement methods in the Malaysian construction industry to effectively support the collaborative implementation of CDM.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on CDM by addressing gaps in the literature, particularly within the Malaysian context, and providing insights to the government to support its effective implementation

    Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio ha sido investigar el uso de las plataformas digitales, con el objetivo de analizar en las competencias de los docentes universitarios en al proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje.   Marco Teórico: Se han empleado los conceptos en plataformas digitales como LMS (Learning Management System) como espacios tecnológicos para la educación en virtualidad, aplicado a las competencias de los docentes en las clases remotas.   Método: La metodología utilizada de enfoque cualitativo, diseño fenomenológico, los participantes fueron los docentes universitarios entrevistados y el instrumento empleado la entrevista con preguntas abiertas, y las respuestas analizados por Atlas ti.   Resultados y Dsicusión: Los resultados alcanzados en redes semánticas revelaron que los docentes universitarios debieron aprender el uso de plataformas, herramientas tecnológicas y el manejo de las TICs, adquiriendo competencias digitales como estrategias novedosas como la gestión de recursos digitales que ha sido comparado con varias investigaciones anteriores y comparable con conceptos como LMS, entre otros.   Implicaciones de la Investigación: La implicación de esta investigación radica en la relevancia de la educación universitaria virtual porque ha modificado el rol del docente universitario, además de la necesidad de manejar herramientas tecnológicas para poder facilitar el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje virtual.   Originalidad/Valor: La relevancia de esta investigación radica en contribuir a evidenciar las copetencias para un docente universitario al momento de enseñar en forma virtual, además saber usar y gestionar las herramientas digitales para conectar con los estudiantes

    THE USE OF EYE TRACKING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN ASSESSING THE HOTELS WEBSITE DESIGN AESTHETIC ELEMENT: THE CASE OF ALGERIAN HOTELS WEBSITES

    Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the aesthetic quality of Algerian hotel websites and their ability to create a positive first impression, which is crucial for user engagement. The research focuses on identifying design strengths and weaknesses to propose actionable improvements for enhancing user experience.   Theoretical Framework: The study integrates Eye Tracking (ET) technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze visual engagement and design aesthetics. Marriott Bonvoy®'s website serves as a benchmark, providing a standard for effective aesthetic design. Method: A content analysis was conducted on four Algerian hotel websites based in Constantine, utilizing ET-generated heatmaps and AI-derived visual indices, such as clarity scores, to evaluate design performance.   Results and Discussion: The analysis revealed that Marriott Bonvoy® demonstrated superior aesthetic design, followed by the local three-star El Bey Hotel, which outperformed other local websites in design quality. Despite its relative success, El Bey and the other hotels exhibited areas requiring improvement, highlighting gaps in visual hierarchy, layout coherence, and clarity.   Research Implications: The findings emphasize the need for Algerian hotel managers to prioritize design aesthetics as a key component of their digital strategy. Implementing the suggested improvements could enhance user experience and competitiveness in the hospitality sector.   Originality/Value: This study uniquely combines ET and AI to evaluate website design in the Algerian hospitality context, providing actionable insights for improving digital engagement. It contributes to the growing body of research on user-centered web design in emerging markets

    BASIC SANITATION IN BRAZIL – 1995 to 2020: SECTOR DYNAMICS AND GOVERNANCE

    Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the institutional changes in the sanitation sector in Brazil, since the 1990s, led by several municipalities in the country that were frustrated with the lack of meeting demands by the previous state model and that initiated a movement to implement private concessions, with the objective of universalizing water supply and sewage collection and treatment services in their territories. A process that led to the breaking of the monopoly of state sanitation companies and contributed to the advancement of private concessions and the modernization of sanitation in the country.Theoretical Framework: Historical sectoral/institutional analysis, based on statistical data, sectoral and company reports.Method: Analysis of historical evidence, based on an official database of basic sanitation statistics in Brazil, reports on the sectoral panorama and the main concessionary companies.Results and Discussion: The results obtained show that the initiative of municipalities in Brazil was decisive in breaking the state monopoly in the sanitation sector, and contributed to achieving universal service to the population with greater efficiency.Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are related to the importance of the pioneering action of municipalities, in a decentralized and democratic manner, to achieve the objectives of universalization in basic sanitation in the country with greater efficiency.Originality/Value: This is an original study, with an innovative approach and practical contributions, which contributes to the literature in areas such as sanitation, private concessions, public-private partnerships (PPPs), regional development and sustainable development

    Objective: This study examines the feasibility and effectiveness of joint ventures and alternative funding mechanisms in Nigeria's oil and gas industry to address financial constraints, infrastructure deficits, and technological gaps. It aims to provide insights for stakeholders on sustainable financing strategies that can drive industry growth and resilience.   Theoretical Framework: The research is grounded in financial and economic theories related to energy finance, public-private partnerships, and risk-sharing models in joint ventures. It evaluates these frameworks in the context of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, highlighting their impact on funding efficiency and industry sustainability.   Method: The study employs a qualitative approach, analyzing industry trends, policy frameworks, and case studies of successful joint ventures and alternative financing models. It synthesizes data from academic literature, government reports, and real-world implementations to assess the viability of different funding mechanisms.   Results and Discussion: Findings indicate that joint ventures and alternative funding mechanisms, such as public-private partnerships and project financing, significantly enhance financial sustainability and technological advancements in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. However, challenges such as conflicting interests, transparency issues, and regulatory bottlenecks must be addressed for these strategies to be effective.   Research Implications: The study provides policymakers and industry stakeholders with actionable insights on optimizing joint ventures and alternative financing to enhance Nigeria’s energy sector. It underscores the need for regulatory reforms, transparent governance, and strategic partnerships to foster long-term industry growth.   Originality/Value: This research contributes to the discourse on sustainable financing in emerging energy markets by comprehensively analyzing Nigeria’s joint venture framework and alternative funding options. It presents practical recommendations for overcoming financial and operational challenges, adding value to industry practitioners and policymakers

    OPTIMIZING MAINTENANCE STRATEGIES FOR ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT IN PVC MANUFACTURING: A MACHINE LEARNING AND SIMULATION FRAMEWORK

    Objectives: This paper examines real-world data from a PVC manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia to develop predictive statistical models using machine learning techniques.   Theoretical Framework: A framework to optimize a maintenance strategy in a PVC production line begins with obtaining historical data. This data provides insights into the behavior of each station, highlighting performance patterns, failure rates, and maintenance histories. Analyzing this data helps identify critical areas prone to downtime or inefficiencies.   Method: The method begins with collecting real-world historical data from the PVC manufacturing line for four years, spanning from 2021 to 2024. This data includes key performance metrics, maintenance records, and failure incidents. The collected data was then analyzed using statistical methods to identify trends and patterns in station behavior and downtime. Following this, machine learning techniques were employed, explicitly utilizing a Random-Forest-classifier to classify failure risks and predict future maintenance needs. The model’s performance was validated by comparing it with actual maintenance outcomes to ensure accuracy. Finally, the data analyzed was used to simulate the manufacturing line, enabling the selection of the optimal maintenance strategy to minimize downtime and operational costs for the PVC production process.   Results and Discussion: The results of the simulation study suggest an opportunistic maintenance strategy, as a hybrid approach, is the most effective for the PVC production line. This strategy combines preventive and corrective maintenance elements, offering flexibility in responding to various failure scenarios. The proposed approach can serve as a test environment, allowing for the evaluation of different maintenance strategies under real-world conditions to optimize performance and minimize downtime.   Implications of the Research: This study promotes the adoption of data analytics to drive continuous improvements, contributing to the transition towards Industry 4.0, where the Internet of Things (IoT) plays a central role. By leveraging real-time data, organizations can optimize their processes daily. Additionally, the research proposes using simulation techniques to test maintenance strategies before their actual implementation. This risk-free approach allows for the evaluation of methods in a controlled environment, ultimately leading to significant reductions in both time and costs.   Originality/Value: This study's results are derived from a real-world PVC manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia, with data collected through site visits and original plant logs. The value of this research lies in its practical application: the approach can be adapted and deployed across various production lines, serving as a benchmark for simulating new maintenance techniques or implementing changes in existing systems. This provides a robust framework for improving operational efficiency and optimizing maintenance strategies in diverse industrial settings. The main objective is to identify common failures and forecast their occurrence based on past incidents. The study employs the Random-Forest-Classifier algorithm to process the dataset and improve prediction accuracy. The results are then integrated into simulation modeling, offering valuable insights into proactive measures and opportunistic maintenance strategies within PVC manufacturing. The research aims to minimize unexpected breakdowns and provide practical recommendations to optimize maintenance practices, thereby improving operational efficiency. The paper concludes with a simulation model that demonstrates how opportunistic actions can enhance Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) by leveraging insights from the predictive model

    Objetivo: O presente estudo propõe o desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta baseada em Redes Neurais Convolucionais (CNN) para aprimorar a verificação da autodeclaração da cor da pele em processos seletivos, como em vestibulares da VUNESP. O objetivo é reduzir subjetivamente e tonar o processo mais eficiente e transparente.   Referencial Teórico: A pesquisa fundamenta-se em estudos sobre equidade no ensino superior e na utilização de técnicas de Deep Learning na classificação de imagens. Modelos baseados em CNNs têm demonstrado alto desempenho em reconhecimento de padrões fenotípicos, mas desafios como viés algorítmico e qualidade das bases de dados precisam ser abordados.   Método: Foram utilizadas bases de dados públicas e privadas no treinamento dos modelos de CNN, empregando técnicas de pré-processamento e balanceamento de classes para minimização de distorções. O modelo ResNet50 foi escolhido por sua capacidade de aprender padrões complexos e evitar problemas de degradação do gradiente.   Resultados e Discussão: Os experimentos demonstraram que, apesar da viabilidade da solução proposta, a quantidade e padronização dos dados privados impactam significativamente a precisão do modelo. A análise comparativa entre bases de dados mostrou discrepância, reforçando a necessidade de uma curadoria rigorosa dos dados para garantir imparcialidade.   Implicações da Pesquisa: O estudo reforça a relevância de aprimoramento das bases de dados institucionais e a possibilidade de integrar IA como ferramenta de suporte em processos de heteroidentificação.   Originalidade/Valor: A proposta inova ao explorar Deep Learning para um problema pouco abordado, sugerindo caminhos para tornar a aplicação de políticas afirmativas mais justa e eficiente

    FACTORS INFLUENCE SAUDI CONSUMERS TO INTENT USING DIGITAL PAYMENT

    Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate factors that influence consumers to intent use digital payment. Shopping online through E-commerce has experienced rapid growth worldwide, driven by technological advancements and evolving consumer behavior. In Saudi Arabia, this growth is particularly significant due to the nation’s Vision 2030 initiative, which emphasizes digital transformation.   Theoretical Framework: Understanding the consumers in-depth of how perceived factors including consumer trust, attitude, and other perceived benefits influence consumer intent to use digital payment with other challenges related to competition and the emergence of globalization, the information and technology revolution significantly influenced the decisions of the consumer to use such as digital payment. Interplay is critical for enhancing e-commerce platforms and meeting the expectations of tech-savvy, cautious, and culturally distinct Saudi consumers.   Method: A quantitative approach was conducted to collect data through a questionnaire which helped us clarify the relationships between the independent variables including ease to use, perceived usefulness, trust, and benefits on attitude and intent to use digital payment in Saudi Arabia's e-commerce market. By examining the construction equation model, the study provided a comprehensive framework that guides platform optimization, improves consumer engagement, and enhances conversion rates.   Results and Discussion: The results indicate that digital payment are influenced by perceived usefulness, trust, and perceived benefits when shopping on Saudi e-commerce. Platforms will benefit from these features as e-commerce becomes more competitive. The study reveals that perceived usefulness, trust, and perceived benefits are the most significant predictors of consumer intent to use digital payment mediated by consumer's attitude. By offering secure and convenient payment options, building trust through transparency and communication, and increasing desktop and mobile websites easy to use and perceived usefulness, e-commerce platforms can improve browsing and purchase decisions.   Research Implications: The implications of this study enhance marketing managers' and researchers' understanding of the significance of factors that influence consumers to use digital payment. Digital payment systems facilitate electronic transactions, making them safe, easy, and fast, which enhances consumer trust and perceptions. Privacy protection and simplifying transactions and benefits which should be mentioned clearly on websites encourage digital payment usage.   Originality/Value: The primary data and significant results of this study provide insight into consumers' attitudes with regard to factors that motivate them to use digital payment in Saudi e-commerce. The future research should investigate other factors that might influence consumer attitudes and digital payment such as cultural and social benefits. that is not only but also should apply in other forms such as mobile APPs

    ESTUDO DOS MATERIAIS ALTERNATIVOS PARA A MONTAGEM DE PAINÉIS DE VEDAÇÃO PARA A CONSTRUÇÃO CIVIL: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA DA LITERATURA

    Objetivo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo a realização de uma revisão sistemática para analisar estudos acerca de materiais alternativos para a montagem de painéis de vedação destinados à construção civil, que tivesse cimento em sua composição.   Referencial teórico: a pesquisa foi conduzida pelas bases de dados Scielo e ScienceDirect.   Método: para este trabalho foi utilizada a metodologia Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Como critério de elegibilidade foi levado em consideração o idioma da pesquisa, como também seu ano de publicação, título, formato de texto e resumo. Após a definição das palavras-chave, foram estabelecidos critérios para tornar a pesquisa mais eficiente.   Para a parte da extração de dados, elaborou-se uma planilha no Excel contendo dados do artigo e informações coletadas a partir de sua leitura.   Resultados e Discussão: Inicialmente juntando todas as bases de dados selecionadas, foram obtidos 491 artigos. Após todo o processo de filtragem, esse número foi reduzido para 4, que foram utilizados nesse trabalho de revisão sistemática.   Implicações da pesquisa: Os artigos foram selecionados com base em estudos que traziam materiais que pudessem ser utilizados na fabricação de painéis considerando seu potencial quanto à reutilização após o descarte e que pudessem ser retirados do material descartado e posteriormente reaproveitados, e que utilizassem o cimento Portland.   Originalidade/valor: Por meio dessa redução apresentada, foi possível para perceber o pouco espaço que essa questão ainda tem no Brasil. Mas, considerando que a solução é viável e eficaz, ao que tudo indica, as pesquisas ainda avançarão muito nos próximos anos
