    Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning Algorithms for Classification of Environmental Sounds and Fall Detection

    In recent years, number of elderly people in population has been increased because of the rapid advancements in the medical field, which make it necessary to take care of old people. Accidental fall incidents are life-threatening and can lead to the death of a person if first aid is not given to the injured person. Immediate response and medical assistance are necessary in case of accidental fall incidents to elderly people. The research community explored various fall detection systems to early detect fall incidents, however, still there exist numerous limitations of the systems such as using expensive sensors, wearable sensors that are hard to wear all the time, camera violates the privacy of person, and computational complexity. In order to address the above-mentioned limitations of the existing systems, we proposed a novel set of integrated features that consist of melcepstral coefficients, gammatone cepstral coefficients, and spectral skewness. We employed a decision tree for the classification performance of both binary problems and multi-class problems. We obtained an accuracy of 91.39%, precision of 96.19%, recall of 91.81%, and F1-score of 93.95%. Moreover, we compared our method with existing state-of-the-art methods and the results of our method are higher than other methods. Experimental results demonstrate that our method is reliable for use in medical centers, nursing houses, old houses, and health care provisions. Full Tex

    Evaluation of Microbial Contamination via Wastewater Collected from Different Oil Industries and its Treatment Using Various Coagulants

    Wastewater from industrial discharged into other water bodies that pose serious risks to human health as well as the environment. The oil and ghee industries are also the main contributors to water pollution along with various other industries. The present study aimed to evaluate microbial load in waste water of oil industries in Lahore and its treatment using chemical and natural coagulants. Water samples were collected from three selected oil and ghee industries in Lahore. Physicochemical properties (Chemical oxygen demand (COD), Biological oxygen demand (BOD), and turbidity) and microbial contamination of water samples were analyzed before and after treatment. It was observed that samples treated with natural coagulants such as orange and banana peel, and date seeds showed a mild reduction in physicochemical parameters. Orange and banana peel coagulants caused a 30% reduction, while date seeds coagulants caused a 60% reduction in physicochemical parameters. A significant decrease in microbial load was noticed by using natural coagulants. However, for the chemical coagulants, it was observed that ferric chloride with alum and Ca+2 cation with bleaching powder caused an extreme reduction in physicochemical indicators and microbial load. While no significant decrease was observed in physicochemical indicators and microbial load when waste water samples were treated with Poly Aluminum chloride (PAC) and alum. It was concluded that chemical coagulants have a better ability to treat waste water as compared to natural coagulants.  Full Tex

    Review on Performance Analysis of Three Control Techniques for Buck Converter feeding a Resistive Load

            In power systems, DC/DC converters are used to reduce or improve the dc voltage level. A dc/dc converter\u27s major difficulty is controlling the output dc voltage closer to the desired set-point voltage at the load and input voltage fluctuation. Designers aim for better efficiency, reduced harmonics, and higher power while keeping converter size and power under safe limits. Several control techniques are used in dc/dc converters to overcome the problems mentioned above. This paper compares the transient performance of three control techniques, namely proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control, fuzzy logic control (FLC), and sliding mode control (SMC) methods, after a brief introduction of these techniques. Secondly, the three techniques have performed simulation results of a buck converter feeding a resistive load. Comparative analyses are presented for various conditions such as input voltage and load variation tests. It is observed that SMC outperforms the other two methods for both simulation scenarios

So, to prevent human diseases, the symptoms of various infections in vegetables must be known. Moreover, the conditions supporting the infections in vegetables must be understood. So that spoiled vegetable consumption can be prevented. Sometimes spoiled vegetables are regarded as disease free and suitable for consumption. These misconceptions sometimes lead to lethal human diseases, which in history led to major outbreaks.     Pain Management in Opioids Users without Use of Medicines

    Notable researchers tell us about acute pain management in opioid users and how it works and which drug group works effectively in them. The purpose of our study is to manage pain in opioid users during detox without the use of Analgesics. An experimental study is conducted among 36 male patients in the age group of 25 to 55 from Punjab, Pakistan. The purposive sampling technique was used in the collection of samples due to limited resources. We divided these samples into 3 different groups (medication, placebo, and physiotherapy) and after doing treatment according to their group we get the results through a self-report inventory. Most rehabilitation centers used analgesics to relieve symptomatic pain management but the problem is the drug-seeking behavior of opioid users. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 26. Of 12 patients in the placebo group only 25% feel better through a placebo treatment plan and in the analgesic group 75% of patients feel relieved and in the physiotherapy group, 66% of patients feel relieved. As a result of this, we concluded that physiotherapy can also play role in the rehabilitation process of opioid users and helps to minimize their drug-seeking behavior. Our research concludes that a positive but weak association between placebo in opioid pain management is present while strong but less association between physiotherapy in opioid users then analgesics

    BCAS: A Blockchain Model for Collision Avoidance to Prevent Overtaking Accidents on Roads

    Overtaking at high speeds, especially on non-divided roadways, is a leading cause of traffic accidents. During overtaking maneuvers, humans are more likely to make mistakes due to factors that cannot be predicted. For overtaking operations in autonomous vehicles, prior research focused on image processing and distant sensing of the driving environment, which didn\u27t consider the speed of the surrounding traffic, the size of the approaching vehicles, or the fact that they could not see beyond impediments in the road. The past researches didn\u27t focus on the speed of the surrounding traffic or the size of the approaching vehicles. Moreover, most of the techniques were based on single agent systems where one agent manages the source vehicle\u27s (autonomous) mobility within its surroundings. This research conducts a feasibility study on a remote Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication framework based on Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) to improve overtaking safety. This work also tries to improve safety by introducing a blockchain-based safety model called BCAS (Blockchain-based Collision Avoidance System). The proposed multi-agent technique strengthens the ability of real-time, high-speed vehicles to make decisions by allocating the total computation of processing responsibilities to each agent. From the experimental results, it is concluded that the proposed approach performs better than existing techniques and efficiently covers the limitations of existing studies

    Hybrid Integration Model in Industry 4.0 for Lean Management (HIM)

    In many large organizations, there is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that needs to be integrated with a third-party system to provide real-time services to their customers. To achieve this, these organizations’(ERP) systems should have inbound (IB) and outbound (OB) integration capability through APIs. In this paper, we have proposed and implemented a Hybrid Integration Model (HIM) in Industry 4.0 for Lean Management. This research was implemented in an Airline Travel Company (ATC) in which an In-house ERP system is real-time-integrated (In-bound) with Global Distribution System (GDS) through API’s i-e, soap &rest-based web services for online ticketing as well other Miscellaneous facilities i-e (Auto SMS Email) using Horizontal Integration Model in Industry 4.0 and also integrated (Outbound) with 3rd party General Ledger (GL) system. Integrating an ERP system with GL is an automated business process that requires implementing API’s and developing automatic routines to move the data between ERP & GL Systems as per user requirements. Our proposed model is fully automated where no human intervention is involved while transferring data from ERP to GL and following all standards recommended by industry 4.0 for Lean Management.     Automatic Vehicle Number Plate Recognition Approach Using Color Detection Technique

    An Automatic Vehicle Number Plate Recognition System (AVNPR) is a key research area in image processing. Various techniques are developed and tested by researchers to improve the detection and recognition rate of AVNPR system but faced problems due to issues such as variation in format, lighting conditions, scales, and colors of number plates in different countries or states or even provinces of a country. Douglas Peucker Algorithm for shape approximation has been used in this research to detect the rectangular contours and the most prominent rectangular contour is extracted as a number plate (NP) and the connected component analysis is used to segment the characters followed by optical character recognition (OCR) to recognize the number plate characters. A custom dataset of 210 vehicle images with different colors at various distances and lighting conditions was used for the proposed method captured on my smart phone Galaxy J7 Model SM-j700F at roads and parking. The dataset contains various types of vehicles (i.e. Trucks, motorcars, mini-buses, tractors, pick-ups etc). The proposed method shows an average result of 95.5%. The novelty used in this method is that it works for different colors simultaneously because in Pakistan, several colors are used for vehicle NPs. Full Tex

    The Safeguard measures for mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on radiotherapy services in a Cancer Hospital: A resource-constrained approach

    This article suggests the preventive measures for healthcare department (particularly radiotherapy department) to reduce the probability of corona virus transmission with a resource constrained approach without affecting the work flow. COVID-19 has affected the patients as well as staff of radiotherapy department leaving a severe negative impact on the financial resources of INOR cancer hospital, Abbottabad. Multiple preventive measures have been taken to reduce the probability of spreading the coronavirus while pursuing the timely treatment of radiotherapy patients without compromising their oncological outcomes. In this context, a triage center was established to filter out the Covid suspected/confirmed patients to reduce the risk of infection to other patients and staff.  Social distancing was ensured by making amendments in patient gathering areas. Also extensive ventilation and disinfection procedures were adopted to clean the surfaces.  Following these measures, patient flux did not show any considerable decrease in second, third and fourth wave as compared to first wave when patient flux reduced to about less than 25 %.  Preventive measures were also taken for the employees by ensuring them to wear personal protective equipment during office hours. To further reduce the probability of contact, telemedicine was adopted for patients where possible. All employees were made to be fully vaccinated by July 2021 resulting in 100 % reduction in new cases among INOR employees in the following fourth COVID wave.  Owing to these stringent measures taken to fight against coronavirus, ratio of contracting the coronavirus among the employees and patients of INOR has been found <10% overall in this pandemic, While no mortality has been reported so far.
