ISCG: An Intelligent Sensing and Caption Generation System for Object Detection and Captioning Using Deep Learning.
Artificial intelligence has paved the way for different areas of computing such as speech recognition and translation, object detection, machine translation, and others. One of the goals of artificial general intelligence is to simulate human thinking and rationality within machines such that they are able to perceive their environment and then perform reasonable actions based on their perception. Creating a single model that performs every single task from visual perception to actuation is currently impossible. The system must be divided into several models each of which functions independently as well also contribute to the operation of the whole intelligent machine. In this paper, an intelligent sensing and caption generation (ISCG) system is proposed which is capable of detecting living/non-living objects and states of motion in images. The system consists of two separate modules of caption generator and intelligence engine with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for determining the different objects in the images. Our model yields state-of-the-art performance on benchmarked dataset
Education for Sustainability: A Study of Curriculum, Teachers' and Students' Understanding (NIAS Report No. NIAS/SSc/EDU/U/RR/21/2020)
The study reported in this document reviewed textbooks and observed 35 teachers from two
different schools in Bengaluru. Findings suggests that the school curriculum has provisions for
teachers to talk about sustainability in a meaningful way. However, teachers appeared unprepared
to teach about sustainability. Using Bordieuan analysis the study proposes that teachers do not
possess a habitus for sustainability and suggest ways to build the same

Knowledge Processes and their Role in Innovation - A Comparison of Selected Chinese and Indian Practices
Innovation is today recognized as key to fostering economic development and building technological strengths in firms, industries and countries. While generally described in the common understanding as anything that is new and has an impact on a large scale, it is technology-driven innovation that has assumed prominence in the contemporary environment.
Academic research and study of innovation has encompassed a variety of disciplines. From these efforts, innovation has emerged as a complex phenomenon that requires a variety of factors and concepts to describe. As innovation assumes prominence in countries such as India and China, which are aiming to catch up with the more advanced countries, the factors that go to make successful innovations possible are of increasing interest.
This thesis examines the different approaches adopted in the field of innovation studies and identifies knowledge processes as key to understanding innovation. The applicability of this has been investigated through detailed research into three industry segments. Based on the research, frameworks of innovation based on knowledge processes have been presented including a comparison of practices in selected Chinese and Indian organizations
Metalworking Traditions of Kammalar and Vishwakarma of Southern India (Virtual Book Reading and Lecture)
The Kammalar and Vishwakarma of southern India represent ageold artisanal communities who have left behind an indelible imprint in terms of material culture and metals heritage. However, although the artistic legacy of temple sculpture and metal icons, lamps, bells, vessels is generally known, there are lacunae in terms of a finer appreciation of their techno-cultural aspects and trajectories, the living heritage of the knowledge systems and intertwinings with the socio-cultural aspects. The seminal book project completed in 2019 and related lecture of Sept 2020 on the Metalworking traditions of the Kammalar and Vishwakarma sets out to chart the trajectories of important craft traditions in various parts of southern India to explore the intertwinings of culture and technology, maker and material, process and product, art, craft and science, ritual and function, past and present. Chola inscriptions mention the Kammalar, the once powerful artisan communities who were organized in five-fold kinship groupings; akin to the crafts communities of the Viswakarma, who trace their lineage to the mythical Lord Visvakarma, the divine architect of the Hindu pantheon and his five children. Ethnometallurgical studies in and around south Indian temple towns and cultural hubs in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangan are reported. These range from the metal icons made by Sthapatis at Swamimalai, harking back to the famed medieval Chola bronze legacy to lesser known icon making traditions in Karnataka; from the ritual metalware of temple bells and lamps in Nacharkoil to the distinctive foundries for uralis or vessels in Mannar; and from the vanishing practices of the Kammalar in Kerala of making high-tin beta bronze vessels and cymbals to the exotic metal mirrors of Aranmula, Kerala. Apart from the copper-bronze repertoire, the trajectory of ferrous metalworking communities is also touched upon. These range from the last testimonies of the ‘ukku’ Kammari in Telangana, who made ‘ukku’ or wootz steel, a famed high-grade steel of antiquity that was exported to West Asia to make the fabled Damascus blades, the Karuman Viswakarman blacksmiths of Tiruvannamalai and the intriguing flexible urumi swords of the Kalaripayattu tradition from Kerala. The intangible heritage and distinctive ritual practices of the craftspeople is touched upon; such as of their autonomous temples, mediated by their own priests such as at Nagamangala in Karnataka and the fading songs of the Kammari blacksmiths of Telangana. Two DVDs have also been made with Prof Sharada Srinivasan’s narrations, and one on bronze, bell metal and marginalised high-tin bronze traditions and the other on steel makers and blacksmiths. The overview on the present status of crafts also draws from the past 3 decades of Prof Sharada Srinivasan’s seminal archaeometallurgical and ethnometallurgical researches on metal crafts traditions and metalware

Ek Hathiya Dewal: A Rock-Cut Nagara Temple at Thal, Uttarakhand
The diminutive rock-cut temple at Thal was first reported in 1916, and later described briefly in 1975. So far, there has been no detailed description or drawings published, for the same. In this paper, we describe this small, but important monument, present measured drawings for the same, and speculate on the possible date of the rock-cut temple, based on comparison with similar monuments in the region and elsewhere

Skills Development Initiatives and Labour Migration in a Secondary Circuit of Globalized Production: Evidence from the Garment Industry in India
Global circuits strategically organize production processes across new sites through the conjoint actions of a set of actors such as firms, cities, states, and other sectors (Beaverstock et al., 2002). These actors perform important functions in production circuits and shape the geographies of capital and labour at global, national, and subnational scales. A city centre becomes a critical node in the circuits of production by facilitating an environment for the consolidation of hyper-mobile capital and for the provisioning of skilled labour, depending on its strategic positioning and its partnership with other actors. The highly specialized cross-border circuits corresponding to specific industries, more precisely those components of industries that are operating across national borders, connect a series of cities embedded within a nation to the global city network (Sassen, 2001). Therefore, the opening up of economies to the global market and the increasingly interconnected space of flows of labour, capital, knowledge, and goods have secondary consequences within a nation. At the same time, the relentless search for new sites of production and service activities across borders by the new transnational lead firms reproduces more globally integrated and sophisticated production networks by consolidating capital and labour for value creation under different systems of production and by promoting regional development through strategic partnerships between actors (Coe et al., 2010; Coe and Hess, 2013).
Therefore, the global production networks framework calls for a dynamic approach to understand the complex and evolutionary nature of the relationship between state and firm as well as the relationship between fluidity and fixity of both labour and capital (Rainnie, Herod, and McGrath-Champ, 2011; Yeung, 2013). This framework also recognizes the inevitable linkages of households, enterprises, and states to one another in the circuits of production (Gereffi, Korzeniewicz, and Korzeniewicz, 1994; Coe and Yeung, 2015) and provides helpful insights into investigating the capital–labour dynamics and the spatialities of new sites of production within a nation. In this context, this chapter attempts to integrate the study of the concentration of capital in urban spaces and the mobility of labour from rural to urban areas in India. The chapter illustrates how the garment production circuit connects a series of urban spaces with their rural counterparts by examining the consolidation of capital and mobilities of labour, with a particular focus on the institutional governance and the socio-economic and cultural forces influencing labour mobility within India
