Effect of melt temperature on microstructural and strength properties of in-situ aluminum metal matrix composites containing SiCNO particles
Polymer Injection Pyrolysis (PIPs) can be adopted to synthesize in-situ ceramic particles within molten metal by stir-casting process. This paper investigated the effect of pyrolysis temperatures on microstructural and strength properties of in-situ aluminum matrix composites containing 2.5 vol% of SiCNO particles. In-situ composites were synthesized by stir-mixing of cross-linked polysilazane at four different pyrolysis temperatures (675–850°C) at which in-situ pyrolysis occurred and then followed by ultrasonic agitation and squeeze casting process. Microstructural data reveals that grain size and the particle size of SiCNO particles decreases with increasing the temperature of the melt at which polymer was introduced into the melt. The increase in the strength properties of the fabricated composites as compared to pure aluminum is almost 210% for the composites fabricated at 850°C while it is marginally 17% for the composites fabricated at 720°C. Fractography studies suggest that composite fabricated at 675°C exhibits a better combination of yield strength and ductility
The Social and Political Dimensions of Ethnic Conflicts in Manipur
The state of Manipur has been steeped in violent conflicts between ethnic groups for
decades. The latest, ongoing strife between the Kukis and the Meiteis that erupted
in early May has exposed the failure of state forces to contain the violence, even as it
reflects the deep-rooted hostility between the two ethnic groups. This brief attempts
to engage with the multifaceted, historical ethnic conflict between the Kukis and the
Meiteis of Manipur. It ponders the social and political factors around the conflict, and
offers a set of policy recommendations as a way towards improving the prospects for
achieving peace in the state
Integrative management of anaplastic astrocytoma through a combination of Ayurveda and conventional care: A case report
Anaplastic Astrocytoma (AA) is a relatively rare cancer, and is associated with a median life expectancy of 3 years after conventional therapy. Complete cure of the highly infiltrative AA is uncommon, and reports of positive outcome in cases of partial resection of AA are rare. Further, integrative approaches to the management of AA remain underexplored. This paper contributes to the limited literature in this domain by presenting a case that was successfully treated through integrative conventional and Ayurvedic interventions. A patient diagnosed with AA in the left parieto-occipital lobe underwent partial lesion resection followed by post-operative radiation and chemotherapy. The patient was given a conservative post-surgical life expectancy of two years, and was referred to an Ayurveda hospital for further treatment. The Ayurvedic intervention was focussed on redressal of radiation and chemotherapy side-effects, improvement of quality of life, and improving the patient’s strength and immunity. Following this novel integrative model of care, the patient was able to resume all personal and professional routines, and a contrast MRI revealed absence of residual lesion allowing the patient to outlive his initial prognosis by several years till date. We posit that the findings of this report merit further examination in the interest of potential improvements to existing models of care
Making Urban Environments: Infrastructures of Power, Resistance and Negotiation
As scholars from the fields of history, anthropology and animal studies, as well as landscape planning and management, we discuss various forms of urban and urbanising infrastructures and their political entanglements. Questioning and illuminating how various actors and their practices build and shape urban environments, we address topics ranging from the black soldier fly - used as biotechnological infrastructure to manage waste - to other nonhumans, like macaques -developing and negotiating their own urbanisms; from plants and community gardens - used as green infrastructures to provide shade and food, and social infrastructures to endure and resist - to the transportation infrastructures that humans have built to both segregate and divide, as well as to live and unite. In case studies situated across the world, we present different conceptualisations of infrastructures as complex human-nonhuman co-productions that shape the modern city

India's Space Economy, 2011–12 to 2020–21: Its Size and Structure
India is one of the few developing countries with a growing technological capability in the space industry. This capability manifests itself in designing, manufacturing and launching satellites of various sizes and sophistication. The state has played a significant role in evolving and nurturing this technological capability, as the space sector has received considerable public investment. The space economy has grown and can be essential to the country's high-tech manufacturing and services sectors. A necessary feature of this technological capability building is entirely built through indigenous research and development by the Indian Space Research Organisation. Employing an eclectic framework, the paper maps out the size and structure of India's space sector and analyses the state's role in shaping it. It also provides us with some estimates of the productivity of those public investments in creating a space economy
