Roadside Asset Extraction from Mobile LiDAR Point Cloud
Mobile LiDAR systems are powerful tools that help us map roads and their surroundings in 3D with great speed and precision. The data provided by these systems support urban planning efforts, digital mapping, transportation infrastructure maintenance, and more. This report presents a comprehensive workflow for roadside asset extraction using Mobile Terrestrial Laser Scanning (MTLS) data, focusing on road lane detection, cross-section slope analysis, and point cloud classification. Roadside asset extraction is the identification and classification of roadside features like signs and poles. The dataset, acquired using a high-resolution mobile LiDAR system, contains over 5.7 billion points (pieces of data) across 68 LAS files. Preprocessing of the data involved tiling, merging, and denoising processes to enhance data quality. This research used two types of image-like maps— one showing elevation and one showing how reflective the surface is—to model the road and identify lane markings. Furthermore, the team developed and trained an AI-driven deep learning-based classifier program using a PointNet-style architecture implemented in PyTorch to segment ground and non-ground features. The classifier was trained using over 500 million labeled points and applied to new LAS files for inference. The model achieved effective binary classification performance and produced classified LAS outputs compatible with downstream GIS workflows. This means the program was able to successfully sort features into two categories—like ground vs. non-ground—and produce files that work with common mapping software. This work demonstrates the feasibility of combining traditional feature extraction with modern deep learning approaches to enhance automation and accuracy in infrastructure mapping
The Silent Killer in Women\u27s Prisons
If present in the body for an extended period, the human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause aberrant cells to develop in the cervix. Left undetected, these abnormalities can manifest into cancer. Incarcerated women are among the highest demographic to be diagnosed with cervical cancer - diagnoses that could be averted through HPV vaccinations, regular cervical cancer screenings, Pap smears, and comprehensive sexual education. The lack of these preventative measures points to an insufficiency of reproductive healthcare within women’s prisons. In its early stages, cervical cancer is asymptomatic. Once symptoms appear, damage to the body is irreparable. The absence of symptoms before lethality is why cervical cancer is coined “the silent killer.” The Eighth and Fourteenth amendments endow incarcerated individuals with equal rights to medical care in theory, but not in practice. Healthcare mandates in the criminal justice system were not written with the well-being of women in mind. The preventability, detectability, and treatability of early-stage cervical cancer shows that its frequency amongst incarcerated women is an injustice. Incarceration should not be a disqualification from proper healthcare

scans is a collection of poems that explore my memories within the small farm town of Soledad, California. This collection examines the intersections of religious experiences, relationships, and core regional identifiers. I believe literature transcends time and works as a capsule for our experiences. This collection looks to examine and elevate the qualities of these experiences, inviting the reader to rediscover their own memories and the minor details lost within them. Separated into four sections, each poem works as a fragmented memory, with the intent of creating a near, complete image of their designated section. I seek to provide an opportunity for the reader to experience an intimate relationship with the poems through language and imagery, while allowing for a more personal experience with lowercase and poetic devices. This collection looks to emphasize the overlooked details of larger experiences, highlighting the textures and emotional weight of memory
The Relationship Between Psychological Contract Breach and Work Motivation and Attitude Among Tech Employees: The Moderating Role of Conscientiousness
There has been some research on moderating factors of the relationship between psychological contract breach (PCB) and work engagement and affective commitment. However, most studies conducted have mainly focused on situational factors (e.g., job satisfaction, exchange imbalance), not on individual factors (e.g., personality traits). This research gap leaves a question in the role that personality traits play in influencing the negative consequences of PCB. The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating role of conscientiousness on the relationship between PCB and two outcomes, work engagement and affective commitment. Hypotheses were tested using 103 technology industry employees in the United States or Canada in an online survey. Although the results of this study did not support the hypothesis that conscientiousness would buffer the negative relationship between PCB and work engagement and affective commitment, they revealed that PCB indeed had a negative relationship with work engagement and affective commitment. Furthermore, results showed that conscientiousness was directly related to work engagement. Organizational actions to reduce the occurrence of PCB are discussed, including establishing clear and honest communication about expectations and obligations between the organization and its employees and careful assessment of employees’ needs
Examining Overconfidence and Internal Efficacy’s Influence on Political Opinion Expression Using the Spiral of Silence Theory
Individuals often overestimate their political knowledge—known as the Dunning-Kruger effect. Such overconfidence may lead individuals to participate in political discussions based on inaccurate information, ultimately degrading the quality of the discourse. Accordingly, this study aimed to explore how overconfidence affects individuals’ political opinion expression. First, this study explored how overconfidence moderates the opinion expression process, using the Spiral of Silence (SoS) theory as a theoretical framework. Second, I examined the relationships between overconfidence, political efficacy, and opinion expression, analyzing whether inflated self-assessments of knowledge trigger actual opinion expression. Third, by comparing these relationships across face-to-face and social media interactions, this study aimed to assess the theoretical implications of the SoS theory within today’s media environment. Findings suggest that the SoS theory was generally not supported, although a significant negative relationship was found between overconfidence and political efficacy, and only efficacy predicted opinion expression. In addition, no consistent differences were found between face-to-face and social media settings. These findings highlight the need to distinguish between political overconfidence and efficacy and that both psychological and contextual factors play a crucial role in shaping individuals’ political expression
