Halal visit probabilities: Insights from Indonesia’s super priority destinations

    Get PDF
Although halal tourism has attracted growing scholarly attention, existing studies predominantly emphasize market potential, tourist perceptions, and promotional strategies. To date, no research has rigorously examined the probability of Muslim tourists’ visit decisions by integrating halal attributes, religiosity, and attitudes within Indonesia’s five Super Priority Destinations (SPDs). Addressing this gap, the present study applies a quantitative design using a probabilistic logit model based on survey data from Muslim tourists. The findings reveal that the completeness of halal attributes substantially increases the probability of destination choice, while religiosity and positive tourist attitudes further strengthen the likelihood of visits. These results demonstrate that halal tourism decisions can be modelled as a probabilistic function of destination attributes rather than solely as cultural or religious expressions. The study highlights the critical role of Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in institutionalizing halal standards, thereby enhancing visit probabilities, boosting competitiveness, and ensuring sustainable tourism development

    Get PDF
Education is widely acknowledged as a fundamental socio-economic right that can transform lives, alleviate poverty, and drive social mobility. This paper explores education’s dual role as a process with defined aims and benefits and as a mechanism for achieving broader human rights. It highlights how education equips individuals with skills and knowledge that enhance employability, increase earning potential, and improve overall quality of life. Education’s contribution to national development is underscored through its role in building a skilled workforce, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth. International law recognizes education as a cornerstone for realising other rights, emphasizing its interrelated, interconnected, and interdependent nature. The paper examines the critical relationship between education and other socio-economic rights, such as the rights to work, health, and adequate living standards, arguing that individuals struggle to fully enjoy these rights without education. It also discusses the unique categorization of education within socio-economic rights and the historical evolution of their recognition and justiciability across legal systems. The role of schools in shaping education is explored, emphasizing their importance in fostering critical thinking and preparing individuals to navigate and transform their social and economic realities. Special attention is given to marginalized groups, particularly women and children, highlighting how education empowers them to challenge systemic discrimination and inequality. By presenting education as an essential tool for achieving dignity, equality, and empowerment, this paper makes a compelling case for prioritizing education within national and international development agendas

Breaking the silence: Tackling gender-based violence in higher education, with a focus on LGBTQI+ Communities

    Get PDF
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a widespread issue that impacts individuals across diverse demographics. Gender-based violence against the LGBTQ+ student community represents a significant issue encompassing various forms of abuse, discrimination, and harassment. The inadequate inclusive support systems designed to effectively address the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals hinder the resolution of gender-based violence in educational institutions. Students from the LGBTQ+ community experience physical violence, cyberbullying, and both verbal and psychological abuse in educational environments. Individuals may experience unstable mental health, diminished academic performance, and social isolation. This study investigates the distinct challenges encountered by LGBTQ+ students in educational environments, focussing on issues related to reporting, the inaccessibility of support services, and discrimination within legal and social frameworks. The study employed a qualitative research approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon. Subsequently, comprehensive desktop research was conducted, consulting scholarly articles to gather information on the phenomena. The study employed thematic data analysis to develop themes that enhanced the discussion. This study utilised resilience theory to examine the positive coping mechanisms employed by students confronting gender-based violence in educational environments. This study contributes to the literature by offering evidence-based recommendations for developing inclusive policies and support systems, while also identifying gaps in current research to guide future interventions

Statistical properties, dynamic conditional correlation, and scaling analysis: evidence from international financial markets high-frequency data

    Get PDF
High-frequency data offers unparalleled insights into market dynamics, facilitating the analysis of statistical properties, dynamic correlations, and scaling behaviours with a precision previously unattainable. These Statistical Properties are essential framework for understanding and modelling the interactions between global financial markets over time. The aim of this study was to investigate the dynamic conditional correlations and scaling behaviour of high-frequency data from January,1 2010 to December 31, 2020. Using the S&P 500, FTSE 100, Nikkei 225, HKEX and DAX as sampled financial markets, the results revealed significant differences in correlation patterns across the markets, as well as fractal-like scaling behaviour. The relationship between the S&P 500-FTSE 100 and S&P 500-DAX supports trend-following strategies, while the Nikkei 225-HKEX and Nikkei 225-FTSE 100 may be closer to random-walk behaviour. This study advances the frontier of knowledge on high-frequency data and offers insights into the temporal relationships and scaling properties between financial markets

The last frontier - going transparent with XBRL reporting for Sub-Saharan African listed firms

    Get PDF
The dearth of studies in sub-Saharan Africa on how eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) enhances disclosure quality necessitated this study. Thus, this study aims to provide an overview of XBRL in the financial reporting space of sub-Saharan Africa-listed firms. This study discusses the evolution of corporate financial reporting and relates it to how business reporting software enhances the quality of information disclosure and transparency. Based on previous studies, we assessed XBRL in its format for reporting and cost implications from a global perspective. The findings indicated that by reporting using XBRL, we make the case for opening up sub-Saharan African investment markets and improving corporate governance quality in the global investors’ view. In other words, listed firms in the sub-region currently have a periodic and manual reporting approach to financial reporting, which makes it quite difficult for investors to have an up-to-the-minute view of the listed firms for investment purposes. Researchers and business firms need to understand the availability of XBRL technology and its application to enable voluntary corporate disclosures. In addition to the information disclosed, it is important for their search to determine how the software employs information in financial reporting. To the best of our knowledge, this study is one of the few in Africa, especially in the context of sub-Saharan Africa exchanges, to use the review to understand how prior studies involved XBRL reporting to enhance the transparency of listed firms

    Get PDF
The global rise in life expectancy has spurred interest in healthy ageing and preventing age-related chronic diseases. Indigenous diets and recreational activities are recognised for promoting longevity and mitigating conditions like cardiovascular disease and dementia. This scoping review, guided by PRISMA-Scr, examined the impact of indigenous dietary practices and recreational activities on healthy ageing and managing age-related diseases. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and CINAHL Central for peer-reviewed English-language articles (2015–2025), identifying 36,984 records and including 34 studies. Findings show that indigenous diets, rich in plant-based foods, lean proteins, and minimal processed foods, are associated with lower chronic disease prevalence. Recreational activities, such as farming, hunting, and communal dancing, enhance physical fitness, social cohesion, and mental well-being, which are crucial for healthy ageing. Integrating diet and activity in indigenous communities fosters a lifestyle that supports long-term health. These practices offer valuable insights for global ageing strategies. Public health initiatives should adopt culturally sensitive approaches, incorporating traditional diets and activities to improve outcomes. Future research should explore adapting these practices for diverse populations, particularly in urban settings, to enhance their scalability and impact.&nbsp

This study aims to analyse the influence of vigour and competitiveness on employee performance by considering the mediating role of involvement balance and the moderating role of employee intrapreneurship. A quantitative approach was used in this study, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 258 employees in the Consumer Credit Business Division of PT Bank Central Asia, TBK (BCA). The sampling technique applied was a saturated sample, where all members of the population who met the research criteria became respondents. Data analysis was performed using the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) method applied through the Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique. The results of the study indicate that vigour has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and the same applies to competitiveness. In addition, this study also found that involvement balance acts as a mediating variable that connects the influence between vigour and employee performance, as well as between competitiveness and employee performance. Meanwhile, employee intrapreneurship was found to moderate the relationship between vigour and employee performance, but did not have a significant effect on the relationship between competitiveness and employee performance. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the management of the Consumer Credit Business Division of PT Bank Central Asia, TBK (BCA) develop programs that support the improvement of employee vigour and competitiveness, as well as support their involvement in innovation to improve overall performance
