Knowledge as a Service: A Systematic Review of Subscription‑Driven Knowledge Management Frameworks
Organizations are increasingly adopting Knowledge as a Service (KaaS)—subscription-based platforms delivering knowledge, analytics, and expertise—to improve collaboration, innovation, and decision-making. Evidence on the design, implementation, and outcomes of these frameworks is scattered. This review will synthesize existing research on framework components, implementation strategies, outcomes, and adoption challenges across industries.
This study is a systematic review aimed at identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing existing literature on subscription-driven KM frameworks. The review will:
1. Map different types of subscription-based KM frameworks.
2. Examine their technological, organizational, and governance features.
3. Assess reported outcomes, including organizational performance, knowledge accessibility, and collaboration.
4. Identify implementation challenges, barriers, and facilitators.
5. Highlight gaps in the current research.
A structured search will be conducted across academic databases (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, PubMed) and grey literature sources. Titles, abstracts, and full texts will be screened using pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data will be extracted using standardized templates. Analysis will primarily involve qualitative synthesis to identify patterns, themes, and trends; quantitative summaries or meta-analytic methods may be applied where sufficient comparable data exist.
Expected outcomes:
1. A taxonomy of subscription-based KM frameworks.
2. Insights into effective implementation practices and reported outcomes.
3. Identification of research gaps to inform future studies and organizational adoption strategies.
This review will provide a comprehensive evidence base for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to understand or implement Knowledge as a Service framework in organizations
