Post-Earthquake Antakya: Testimonies, Heritage, and Future is a comprehensive compilation aimed at documenting the story of Antakya before, during, and after the devastating earthquakes of February 6 and 20, 2023. Divided into three sections—“Fear: Testimonies,” “Anxiety: Earthquake, Antakya, Society,” and “Hope: Antakyan Identity, History, and Heritage”—the book brings together 32 contributions, including personal testimonies, scholarly articles, interviews, and research from authors across diverse disciplines.
This work goes beyond simply mourning and documenting the destruction. It envisions a hopeful path forward for rebuilding the city, facilitating the return of its displaced residents, creating new solidarity networks, and preserving Antakya’s rich cultural heritage, people, and collective memory.
Edited by José Rafael Medeiros Coelho and Anna Maria Beylunioğlu, the book was compiled under the Nehna platform, founded in 2021 to explore, preserve, and narrate the history of the Orthodox community in Antakya and its surroundings. The book is published by İstos Publishing, a Greek-Istanbulite publishing house that has previously introduced Antakya to readers through works such as Arab-Speaking Eastern Orthodox Christians – An Ancient Community in the Shadow of Three Nationalisms (2018), compiled by Haris Rigas; Home – İskenderun Sanjak 1934 (2023), written by Talin Azar; and “If Only It Had Stayed” – A History of Antakya Through the Eyes of Local Witnesses (2024), prepared by Levent Duman and Şule Can.
On the second anniversary of the earthquake, this book serves as a tribute to the resilience that the people of Antakya have always shown in the face of hardship. Continuing its tradition of recording the city’s memory, testimonies, and hopes for the future, Post-Earthquake Antakya: Testimonies, Heritage, and Future provides a powerful reflection on the past, present, and future of this historic city
Harm reduction strategies in the community
Click on the DOI link to access this article at the publishers website (may not be free).Harm reduction strategies in the community includes the work of practitioners, activists, and researchers conducting community-based work in domestic and international settings to alleviate pain and suffering for people who use drugs (PWUD) by providing services to meet their needs. This themed issue features a wide variety of community examples of harm reduction efforts that have been developed to reduce stigma associated with substance use. The articles focused on creating culturally appropriate messaging for opioid users while at the same time decriminalizing substance use and emphasizing the importance of implementing a social determinants of health framework in the community, including gender-specific care and ensuring safe substance use and connecting youth with services. © 2025 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

Jehu's Tribute: What can Biblical studies offer Assyriology?

(Provided by publisher)"The findings of Assyriology have been applied to biblical studies ever since the former emerged as a scholarly discipline in the mid-nineteenth century. Today, the scholarly flow from Assyriology to biblical studies continues, yet rarely are the fruits of biblical scholarship brought to bear on the study of ancient Assyria and Babylon. The present volume aims to reverse this unidirectional trend.
Considering that the literature preserved in the Hebrew Bible is the product of a people who had significant contact with both Assyria and Babylonia, then surely the study of the Hebrew Bible has something to offer Assyriology. But what? The contributors approach this question from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, including intellectual history, museology, and religious and political history. The authors also offer broad methodological considerations and more focused, text-based case studies. Neuro-symbolic learning for Parkinson's disease detection
People's Choice award winner in the poster presentations at the 21st Annual Symposium on Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) held at the Rhatigan Student Center, Wichita State University, April 11, 2025.Research completed in the School of Computing, College of Engineering.Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions worldwide, characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms that significantly impact daily life. Clinically, the Movement Disorder Society – Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) is the standard tool for evaluating PD severity. However, its reliance on subjective clinical assessment introduces variability, making it difficult to achieve standardized and continuous monitoring. Additionally, MDS-UPDRS scores are influenced by clinician bias, inter-rater inconsistencies, and variations in patient condition across different sessions, leading to a lack of real-time, objective, and repeatable assessment. Furthermore, the scale does not inherently support longitudinal tracking or real-world movement analysis, limiting its effectiveness for early detection and personalized treatment adjustments. To address these challenges, we propose a neuro-symbolic learning approach that combines formal logical reasoning with deep learning model trained by collected inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. The symbolic knowledge is extracted based on MDS-UPDRS and represented by first-order logic format. Then the architecture of the neural network is designed based on the extracted symbolic knowledge. The data is extracted from IMU sensors that are placed on chest, upper and lower arms. The collected IMU data, including triaxial accelerometer and gyroscope readings, is calibrated for accuracy, with feature extraction focusing on identifying kinematic patterns indicative of PD symptoms. Unlike traditional deep learning models that operate as black-box systems, our hybrid approach improves both interpretability and performance by incorporating prior medical knowledge. By enabling automated severity grading and personalized treatment adjustments, our model provides a scalable solution for real-world PD monitoring, reducing the burden on healthcare systems and supporting early intervention strategies.Graduate School, Academic Affairs, University Librarie
Quantifying navigational difficulty for visually impaired users in indoor spaces with AccessQuotient
This is an open access article under the CC BY license.Navigating unfamiliar indoor spaces is particularly challenging for blind or visually impaired (BVI) individuals due to complex layouts and inadequate signage. To address this, we introduce AccessQuotient - a metric that quantifies navigational difficulty in built environments for BVI users. Based on a simplified mathematical model and validated through a small-scale user study, AccessQuotient predicts both the likelihood of mistake-free traversal and expected navigation errors. This exploratory model aims to establish a foundation for further research rather than provide definitive assessments. Seven lessons from my journey in renewable energy

Yasaman Taheri learned this while in middle school and afterward became an expert in math. She talks about the role of a mentor and how changes to your mindset can help you to achieve your goals. She also talks about being introverted while on her leadership journey and how she now manages to switch between introversion and extroversion due to her focusing on self-improvement. Yasaman has her bachelor’s in aerospace engineering, but she shares how challenging it was for her to move to the US with her limited knowledge of English and study for this course. She advises that people get involved in community and extracurricular activities to help teach yourself soft skills which will be useful in life.
