    Has the tablet beaten textbooks? Effect of key tool features on student satisfaction

    This is an open access article under the CC BY license.As digital learning tools continue to reshape education, the debate over their effectiveness compared with traditional textbooks remains unresolved. This study provides fresh insights by examining how important feature-level factors—portability, navigability, and visual appearance—shape users’ confirmation and satisfaction with iPads and textbooks. Through a within-subject experiment conducted in a real classroom setting, 82 undergraduate students enrolled in an operations management course at a U.S. public university participated in a two-phase study over two weeks. To ensure ecological validity, students used either an iPad or a traditional textbook to solve decision science problems in their regular classroom environment before switching to the other tool in the second phase. At the end of each phase, participants completed a questionnaire assessing their perceptions of the tools and their learning experiences. This study’s findings challenge the intuitive belief that digital tools are always better than traditional ones. Furthermore, this study systematically examines the advantages and limitations of each tool regarding their detailed features, thus deepening the understanding of their role in digital learning adoption. The plasma control unit directs a jet of atmospheric plasma through the plasma jet nozzle. A slave tool changer is secured to the end effector body. The slave tool changer releasably and opera­tively connects the robot end effector to an industrial robot such that the industrial robot can move the robot end effector along a composite part as the plasma control unit directs a jet of atmospheric plasma through the plasma jet nozzle toward the composite part to clean the composite part and increase a surface free energy of the composite part

Abdulaziz (Associate Editor)High product return rates create major financial, environmental, and reputational challenges for industries such as fashion, footwear, and medical devices. Many of these returns stem from poor product fit, design flaws, and unmet customer expectations. Additive Manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, offers solutions through customization, prototyping, and reduced material waste. This paper explores how AM improves product quality and customer satisfaction, leading to lower return rates across multiple sectors. Challenges such as material limits, data accuracy, and lack of standardization are also discussed. Overall, AM shows strong potential to support sustainable manufacturing while reducing costs and building consumer trust

    Modernization of integrated technologies for ground systems (MINT-GS) - screening of 17-4PH SS laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process

The National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University is collaborating with the Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center in the creation of a rapid qualification framework for various additive manufacturing materials and processes to support the modernization and sustainment of ground vehicles. Currently, a rapid qualification 17-4PH stainless steel material is being executed utilizing Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition additive manufacturing processes. Prior to entering the rapid qualification, pre-qualification screening studies are performed to select the feedstock and develop process control to limit risk within the qualification. An overview of the pre-qualification screening studies performed in selecting the feedstock and heat treatment parameters for the laser powder bed fusion process are described throughout this paper

    Transforming RN-Baccalaureate education using insights from a national faculty needs assessment

    Click on the DOI link to access this article at the publishers website (may not be free).Background: The recent American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials revision emphasizes direct clinical experiences across 4 spheres of care in RN-Baccalaureate (RN-B) education, creating challenges for online, asynchronous programs. Differentiating between prelicensure and postlicensure education complicates the integration of these requirements. Understanding RN-B faculty needs is critical for curricular transformation. Purpose: This needs assessment examines challenges faced by RN-B faculty in integrating the AACN Essentials into nursing curricula and provides resources critical for the transition to them. Methods: A web-based needs assessment was conducted with RN-B faculty across the United States. It included a demographic questionnaire, 5 quantitative questions, and 3 qualitative items. Results: The assessment revealed a need for enhanced academic support, resources, communication, and collaboration to facilitate implementation. Conclusion: This article offers insights, recommendations, and resources for RN-B faculty engaged in curricular transformation, emphasizing targeted support for adopting the AACN Essentials.     Costs of choice: Reformulating price theory without heroic assumptions

    This is an open access article under the CC BY license.The space of human possibilities is vast and ever-growing in a creative, unpredictable fashion. Still, prices form. Acknowledging the costs of choice invokes the famous infinite regress argument wherein utility can’t be calculated without first computing an infinite chain of transaction costs. Rational individuals, to avoid getting stuck in infinite regress, must look outside themselves to make decisions. Heuristics, culture, aesthetics, and other elements of human sociality can be understood as grappling hooks to scale the unknown. Contextual or heuristic decision-making appears irrational under perfect knowledge assumptions, but theorists of creatively evolving systems cannot sufficiently explain emergent system features like prices, tradeoffs, and transaction costs without marshaling a nontrivial theory of knowledge acquisition and use. A price theory of creatively evolving social systems must, therefore, minimize a priori agent knowledge, like the “classical price theory” developed by Inoua and Smith (Economics of markets: neoclassical theory, experiments, and theory of classical price discovery, Palgrave Macmillan, London, 2023). I motivate and then discuss the contours and implications of a price theory that takes the costs of choice seriously, such that the primary modeling assumption isn’t epistemic heroism but epistemic humility. © The Author(s) 2025

    Acute effects of running and blood flow restriction on gas exchange and perceptual responses

    The purpose of this investigation was to examine gas exchange and perceptual responses during discrete running bouts performed at different peak running speeds with and without blood flow restriction (BFR). Twelve college-aged male subjects randomly performed four, 3-minute running bouts at 70%BFR, 80%BFR, and 90%BFR of their running speed at peak V̇o2 with BFR (applied bilaterally and most proximally on each leg) at 40% of total arterial occlusion pressure and 100%NOBFR of their running speed at peak V̇o2 without BFR. Separate 2-way, 4 (Speed [70%BFR, 80%BFR, 90%BFR, and 100%NOBFR]) × 3 (Time [120, 150, and 180 seconds]), Bayesian repeated-measure models were performed to examine differences in oxygen consumption (V̇o2), carbon dioxide production (V̇co2), and minute ventilation (V̇E) as well as ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) and pain. V̇o2, V̇co2, and V̇E increased across running speeds and was similar between the 90%BFR and 100%NOBFR speeds for V̇o2 (Meandiff = -1.49 ± 0.003 ml·kg-1·min-1; 95% HDI: -4.8 to 1.8) and V̇E (Meandiff = -6.97 ± 0.65 L·min-1; 95% HDI: -16.5 to 2.52). Ratings of perceived exertion was highest during the 90%BFR and 100%NOBFR speeds (90%BFR and 100%NOBFR > 80%BFR > 70%BFR), whereas pain was greater during the 90%BFR speed relative to the 70%BFR (Meandiff = -1.31 ± -0.20 au; 95% HDI: -2.63 to -0.0165) and 100%NOBFR (Meandiff = 1.3 ± 0.26 au; 95% HDI: 0.01-2.56) speeds. Applying BFR during 90%BFR of peak running speed induced comparable V̇o2 and V̇E responses as 100%NOBFR but was not associated with lower RPE and provoked more pain. Collectively, BFR exhibits a small, potentially negligible effect on gas exchange, which were largely speed dependent. Coaches and practitioners may consider treadmill running with BFR when reductions in exercise intensity are warranted
