    Yoga as lifestyle of postmodern society in Bintaro Jaya

    Yoga is becoming a cultural trend that evolves into a mass culture. The most people, especially in the big cities, practice yoga. It means that yoga becomes popular even more with the role of mass media. Therefore, making yoga as a lifestyle in postmodern society. The popularity of yoga brings the changes impact for the yoga teachings. Regarding the teachings that were originally sacred into profane cultural products. There is a profane transformation of the yoga practice that demonstrates the ideological indoctrination for the purpose of capitalism in the yoga culture industry. It was intended to meet the needs and social satisfaction. It was marked the compromise to the market through commercial cultural products. Thus, yoga products were easily accepted by the public. This could be seen from the emergence of yoga genres that varied and have undergone modification and massification of interest and increase the interest of the audience. Therefore, becoming expand the market share of yoga practices whose goal was to gain profit. There were also classes of teacher training as the impact of this culture industry. It made yoga practices that were originally a purely cultural product transformed into a commodity to generate profits. Yoga teaching was no longer considered a sacred product of spirituality, however, it could also be exploited for the benefit of the market for profit

    Interactive lesson study as a competence indicator of prospective English teachers

    The present study aims at investigating the competence level of prospective English teachers through interactive lesson study which involved supervisions of teachers, lecturers, and student teachers themselves. A Classroom Action Research in the form of an interactive lesson study model was conducted in four steps, namely planning, practicing, observing, and reflecting. Moreover, the research was administered in two cycles. Some instruments used in data collection were rubric of teaching practice, character checklist, questionnaire, and participatory observation form. The effectivity of approach could be analyzed based on the average scores of 30 student teachers yielded randomly in each cycle, which gradually increased compared to their pre-tests after interactive lesson study has been applied. In the first cycle, the competence of student teachers started to improve with the total score of 1730 and an average score of 58 for the attitude aspect, the total score of 2169 and an average score of 72 for the knowledge aspect, and the total score of 2198 and an average score of 73 on the skill aspect. The achievement of the students' score in cycle 1 was 68 with the medium category. In the second cycle, changes in student learning attitudes began to show significant improvement: total score of 2390 on attitude aspect with a mean of 80, a total score of 2416 on knowledge aspect with a mean of 81, and a total score of 2457 on skill aspect with a mean of 83. Student score gained in cycle II was 82 with the high category. In a nutshell, the ability of the students in their learning attitudes, knowledge, and writing skills were specified as the high category with cultural attitude

    Roi and i’a are part of the linguistic wealth possessed Bima community. Since this is part of the linguistic treasure it is necessary to conduct research relating to the form, function, and factors affecting the use of Roi and i’a. Based on the said problems, the researcher thinks that it is necessary to study the use of Roi and i’a by Bima community. The theory used in this research is the theory of forms, functions, and factors causing speech acts in the language. The method used to collect data is observing and noting, recording, cooperating with informants, and doing introspection. Based on the finding and discussion conducted by the researcher, the results of this study can be summed up as follows: a) Roi and i’a in Bima community in the district of Sape can be grouped into three forms, namely: (1) word; (2) phrases; (3) clause. b) Roi in Bima community in district of Sape serves to (1) flatter, (2) express amazement, (3) admonish, (4) mock, (5) express happiness, (6) show politeness,(7) show the intimacy, (8) advise, (9) tell, (10) ask, (11) make an analogy or to unfold, (12) affirm, (13) express pique, and (14) insult.  Whereas, i’a in Bima community in district of Sape serves to: (1) express anger, (2) tell, (3) express pique, (4) express disappointment, (5) insult, (6) express a surprise, (7) quip, (8) command, (9) express unbelief. c) The factors causing the use of Roi and i’a  in Bima community in the district of Sape are (1) psychological factors and (2) social factors including social status, education level, age, and gender

    Hinduism developed in Central Kalimantan. It was evidence of Hindu kingdom. It could be seen from the existing history of the oldest Hindu kingdom, namely Kutai kingdom in East Kalimantan in the 4th centuries AD. There was the Yupa-shaped stone found on the banks of the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan. The Yupa stated that the Kutai kingdom. It was a victim pillar stone that was used to bind sacrificial animals during the ceremony. It was provided evidence of the oldest Hindu in Indonesia. It used the Pallawa letter, Sanskrit (Team, 1996: 14). In accordance with the existing evidence of Hindu kingdom in East Kalimantan, it was also seen in Central Kalimantan. The emergence was Hindu Kaharingan teachings. The emergence of Hindu Kaharingan teachings was a religious system in Dayak society at that time. It was the existence influence of the oldest Hindu kingdom in East Kalimantan. It was developed Hindu Kaharingan teachings in Central Kalimantan. There was inseparable from the belief system that exists in the local Dayak society. One of the local religious elements that were very necessary to be preserved was Basir. Due to Basir was the heir of ancestral teachings from ancient times. It has been determined in Dayak Hindu Kaharingan society in Palangka Raya City. The media was to preserve local religions teachings, one of them was by holding a ritual ceremony led by Basir in the religious system of Dayak Hindu Kaharingan society, especially, in Palangka Raya City.     Balinese language, as a large local language in Indonesia still exists, unlike mandatory local content at the level of primary and secondary education. Scrutinizing the importance of Balinese language role for the Balinese tribes, therefore, Balinese local languages should be maintained, nurtured, and preserved. This study was intended to describe the role of the Balinese language in the sentences formation. In order to achieve the goal, the sociolinguistic theory was used in the present study. In collecting data, the observation method and interview method were used. The data collected were analyzed using distributional methods. The formal and informal methods were applied in the presentation of the results of the data analysis. It was supported by an inductive and the deductive techniques. Based on the anggah-ungguh kruna as its formation, the Balinese sentence was divided: (1) alus singgih sentence, (2) alus sor sentence, (3) alus mider sentence, (4) alus madia sentence, (5) andap sentence, and (6) kasar sentence

    Amitav Ghosh is widely known as a historical novelist in Indian Writing in English. He recreates the colonial past of the subcontinent from the colonized point of view. However, he is not one who merely recreates history. He is appreciated for writing history with life. He narrates the story of an individual who often turns out to be the representative of a community and its untold history. The Glass Palace is one such novel that recreates the history of the colonial past of India and Burma. The focus is mainly on the life of Rajkumar who is an Indian orphan struggling to survive in Burma after being unfortunately transported to the country by accident. This paper is an analysis of Ghosh’s novel, The Glass Palace in order to show how the author recreates a lively history by narrating the life story of his protagonist

    Dam construction project will bring benefits to people, especially for those who live in the dry area. Pragmatically, government policy to build a dam in a dry area was a wise decision. However, this was curious if the citizens rejected the policy. The phenomenon occurred in Indonesia. This study examined the phenomenon that has happened in Kupang, as a dry city in Indonesia. The aims of this study were to reveal Kupang city government policy related to dam construction project and to reveal factors that caused Kupang citizens rejected the policy. Method applied in this research was a descriptive qualitative method, while the basic theory of this research was public policy theory. The result showed that policy of Kupang City government was rejected because of the weakness of government social approach system itself

    Pemaliq in forest and mountain of sasak community: Llinguistic anthropology

    This short writing aims at revealing the meaning and values of pemaliq expressions that can be applied in managing and controlling life. As an effort to uncover the meaning and value of pemaliq, this study employed anthropological linguistic theory grounded in the view that pemaliq is a cultural source and as a practice of speaking. To collect the data needed, this study applied observation method to the participants of this study and in-depth interview. The data gathered were then analysed by applying ethnographic methods namely domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis, and analysis of cultural themes. The results of the analysis show that pemaliq is practiced by the Sasak Bayan community in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia in the forest and mountain environment, namely pemaliq in the realm of the okat 'words or spoken' and pemaliq in the realm of pegawean  'action'. Pemaliq okat 'word or spoken' is shown in the form of the phrase menggoaq bangsa “mentioning caste” and ngaranin sesato ‘naming animals’. Meanwhile, pemaliq pegawean 'action' is realized in the form of phrases and words those are merebang kayuq ‘cutting down trees’, membait kayuq ‘taking the woods’ and nyelonong ‘without permission. The production and the use of these pemaliq represent values that can be applied in human life such as (1) respect; (2) alert; (3) polite; (4) humble; (5) tolerant; (6) responsible; (7) not greedy; (8) care of the environment; (9) awareness; (10) wisdom; (11) critical knowledge; and (12) thankful

    This current study is aimed at analyzing the policy which is made to improve the performance of the Police of the Republic of Indonesia in general and the Bali Regional Police in particular when serving the public,  the model of formal policy which is expected to increase the income earned by those who are employed at the Operating Bureau of the Bali Regional Police, and the factors hampering the attempts made to improve the performance of the police of the Republic of Indonesia when serving the public in the Bali Regional Police. The study focuses on the policy issued to give remuneration and the performance of being prepared to serve the public. The study is also intended to evaluate to what extent the policy of giving remuneration can lead to the achievement of the goal and target already determined. One of the goals which are intended to be achieved is to improve the performance of the Police of the Republic of Indonesia when serving the public

    The research was intended for analyzing the effectiveness of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) assessment towards critical thinking skills of high school students in Mathematics lesson. The subjects of this study were students XII-IPA class, SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar, the academic in 2017/2018. Sample selection in this study was applied random sampling technique. The research design used was post-test only control group design. The critical thinking of the student's skill was obtained through tests using HOTS assessment. The data were obtained and analyzed using t-test (2-tailed). The analysis results were to show that HOTS assessment could improve student's critical thinking skills in mathematics lesson effectively
