    Get PDF
This case study presents a unique intersection between cultural beliefs, religious practices, and psychosis in a Balinese patient, observed during a 14-day hospitalization in the Intensive Psychiatry Care Unit (IPCU) at the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital, Bali. The patient, a middle-aged Balinese man with minimal formal education, exhibited symptoms of psychosis interwoven with his deep religious convictions and a belief in his role as a devout follower ("ngiring") of deities. He reported auditory and tactile hallucinations that he interpreted as divine messages, compelling him to perform religious rituals to prevent disaster. These experiences, perceived by the patient as sacred, ultimately culminated in aggressive behavior leading to his hospitalization. This case highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in differentiating spiritual practices from psychotic symptoms and underscores the importance of culturally sensitive psychiatric care

Exploring religion's influence on causing emotional distress: A case report of a patient with Hinduism beliefs

    Get PDF
While Hinduism offers many positive teachings and practices that promote well-being, certain interpretations and pressures within the religion—such as rigid social hierarchies, religious guilt, and community pressure—can also contribute to feelings of isolation, low self-worth, and anxiety. Cultural pressures and gender-specific roles within Hindu families can also significantly impact mental health, particularly for married Hindu women who face the dual responsibilities of managing household chores and fulfilling religious obligations. These expectations to raise children, participate in daily prayers, and uphold familial honor can lead to emotional and psychological overwhelm, resulting in heightened stress levels and decreased mental well-being. It is essential to recognize that the effects of these pressures vary widely based on individual experiences, family dynamics, and personal beliefs. By emphasizing flexibility, inclusivity, and mental health awareness within Hindu communities, we can help mitigate these negative impacts and foster a supportive environment where individuals can balance spiritual practices with their well-being

New data in stroke patient’s rehabilitation: Review

    Get PDF
Stroke has a special place in clinical neurology as the brain is the center of the nervous system. They require immediate treatment as the time burden can dramatically worsen their development. The distinction of stroke it is done in the form of damage. 80-88% are ischemic strokes and 12-20% are hemorrhagic strokes. The clinical manifestations of cerebrovascular attacks depend on the location of the damage in the brain parenchyma and specifically in the affected vessel. The separation of cerebral ischemia and hemorrhage syndromes follows anatomical criteria because it depends on the arterial branch that is damaged. The factors that favor stroke with the main causes being hypertension, atherosclerotic plaque rupture, heart diseases as well as people's lifestyle, are a large part of nursing for their prevention in the general population. The global knowledge of the brain (anatomy and physiology) and the understanding of the functioning of strokes helps us as nurses to enrich our knowledge and have a general picture of the patient, without focusing only on the treatment. The treatment requires very good medical and nursing staff and their cooperation with physiotherapists, speech therapists, and other health scientists, who will plan the treatment

Long acting paliperidone injection in patient with bipolar affective disorder, current episode manic with psychotic symptoms: A case report

    Get PDF
Bipolar Disorder is a chronic mental illness characterized by periods of mania, depression, and mixed episodes that often need lifelong medication. The first line of pharmacotherapy includes lithium, valproate, or second-generation antipsychotics. Paliperidone is a medication that works in the brain and is also known as a second-generation antipsychotic. Paliperidone is available as an oral extended-release tablet and a once-monthly extended-release suspension for intramuscular injection. Long-acting injectables (LAIs) are used to reduce the non-adherence of oral medication. Paliperidone is one of the LAI that could be used to treat manic, hypomanic, and mixed episodes in patients with bipolar disorder. Paliperidone LAI reduces the number of relapses, hospitalization, and length of stay. As reported in this case, a patient with a manic episode who received paliperidone LAI showed favourable results after a week-long observation with no signs of extrapyramidal symptoms

Tranexamic acid-induced seizures in parturient patient during sectio caesarean: Case report

    Get PDF
Introduction: Tranexamic acid has found extensive application in obstetrics to prevent and treat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). This case report investigated an infrequent incidence in which seizures were caused by the administration of tranexamic acid. Even though tranexamic acid is generally regarded as safe, it has been associated with the infrequent yet serious side effects of tranexamic acid-induced seizures. This case report was aimed at investigating the infrequent incidence of tranexamic acid-induced seizures in postpartum patients. Case: It was reported that a woman who was 40 weeks pregnant suffered from postpartum seizures after delivery via cesarean section. These seizures occurred after tranexamic acid was administered to treat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) caused by uterine rupture, which was accompanied by hypocalcemia. Despite not having a history of epilepsy, preeclampsia, or hypertension, the electrocardiogram (EKG) showed a prolongation of the QT interval. A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, which involved a CT scan of the head and a D-dimer examination, was conducted, revealing no abnormalities. Discussion: Tranexamic acid, a synthetic derivative of lysine, acts as a competitive inhibitor of plasminogen activation, thereby inhibiting the breakdown of fibrin clots
