    Harmony and tolerance as a tengger identity: reflections for Indonesian identity and unity degradation

The Conflict number Because of Ethnic, Religion, and Race (SARA), which always occur in various regions in Indonesia is the fact that the Identity and National Unity has degraded. Through Phenomenology Research Methods, researchers doing research to lift to the surface on the local wisdom of the Tengger’s in Ngadas Village, District Poncokusumo, Malang. The Local Wisdom Such is the Identity of Tengger. Tengger Identity is Harmony and Tolerance. Religious differences are not a problem for them, because of the attitude of harmony and tolerance entrenched for a long time. The impact, in some decision making of political or social issues, The Tengger’s never used Voting, but the Musyawarah untuk Mufakat (The Council for Consensus). Thus, the Unity community is a positive result obtained by the Tengger’s. In the end, the phenomena Ngadas village could be a reflection and a reference for us to reflect and initiate back the Identity and National Unity of the United Nation of Indonesian Republic

    The equivalence and non-equivalence of proverbs across cultures: Indonesian and English

    The aim of the present study is to examine whether or not proverbs, culturally-related medium of communication, are equivalent across cultures. The proverbs compared are derived from Indonesian and English cultures, as two distinct cultures. Fifteen Indonesian proverbs and fifteen English proverbs have been compared to prove whether or not they are equivalent in terms of meaning, linguistic form and culture. The proverbs are collected from a list of well-known Indonesian and English proverbs. Since almost the thirty proverbs are expressed in metaphorical meaning and since Indonesian is still foreign to many international readers the literal meaning of lexical items found in the proverbs have been glossed in brackets followed by the explanation of the metaphorical meaning of the thirty proverbs. Ten Indonesian proverbs are found to be equivalent in terms of meaning to ten English proverbs. In terms of linguistic structure they are almost equivalent that is they are expressed mostly in sentence structure. But they are different in the use of lexical items that constitute the proverbs. Five Indonesian proverbs are found to be nonequivalent to five of English in terms of meaning and the lexical items used to build the metaphor. Thus it is found out that fifteen Indonesian proverbs are equivalent to fifteen English proverbs and five Indonesian proverbs are found to be nonequivalent to five English proverbs

    Revenue allocation in Nigeria: implications for sustainable national development

    This study examines the structure and formula for revenue allocation in Nigeria and highlights its implications for sustainable national development. The work uses the methodology of Error correction model (ECM) in conjunction with diagnostic tests of variables using Johansen Co-integration tests for robust policy recommendations. Using the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the dependent variable and Revenue allocation to the three levels of government, inflation, and lending interest rate as the independent variables, the results from the study show that revenue allocations and the other variables have a significant relationship with economic growth in Nigeria. Based on our findings, the study recommends among others that there should be accountability and transparency in the federating units to achieve national goals and objectives. Various levels of government should be given adequate funds to enable it to carry out its expenditure responsibilities to accelerate grass root development in the economy. The government should focus on optimal revenue allocation targeted at economic growth to improve the standard of living of the citizenry. These would aid to achieve the goals of desired economic growth and sustainable national development in the years ahead

    Intensive collaborative learning workshop to enhance private teachers' teaching competence

    Teachers’ teaching professionalism urgently needs to be enhanced especially in designing the learning programs and the teaching and assessment practices. This is due to the fact that learning quality is highly dependent on the professionalism of teachers themselves. Teachers’ management skill of learning system needs to be improved continually. The demands of high competencies envisioned in the predesigned syllabus in line with the applicable curriculum. Lesson plans include learning implementation plan, making teaching media, making students’ worksheets and designing performance-based assessments and product based assessment, as well as authentic assessments urgently, needs to be improved. The present collaborative workshops and mentoring programs could positively develop teachers’ professionalism in conducting the learning process. Therefore teachers can provide a more conducive learning atmosphere to the competence of students

    Difficulties of students in English as a medium, a sociolinguistic study of the government colleges in the rural areas of Quetta and Zhob divisions of Baluchistan

    The general purpose of the study was to analyze the factors, due to which students of Quetta and Zhob Divisions of Baluchistan province are facing difficulties regarding English as a medium. The study investigated the factors which were affecting the student’s efficiency regarding English learning. What was the role of the teacher in improving English among rural area’s students? How was a student-facilitated, to make English easier for him? How trained and qualified teachers use different teaching methods to make English an easier subject for students? All students of the rural areas are not aware of the importance of English in today’s world. All students do not have equal opportunities to get an education in good English medium schools. The study was expected to provide strategies for the improvement of teaching-learning environment for the subject of English. The study was investigated to benefit the teachers in understanding the important methods of teaching English and importance of the role of the teachers. Role of a teacher regarding English teaching and role of students regarding English learning was highlighted. Most of the students were unaware of the importance of English nowadays. Most of the students were unfamiliar with English linguistics. Many teachers were unaware of the importance of effective English teaching methods. Untrained teachers not only spoil the institutions but its educational setup too. Most of the rural area’s students have no base in English
