Evaluation of a nonrandomized workplace health promotion program in a Spanish multinational company and its effects on cardiovascular risk factors and weight-related outcomes
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a global health promotion intervention in the workplace on cardiovascular risk factors and weight-related outcomes in offices workers after two years. Methods: This nonrandomized retrospective observational study analyzed data of two medical check-up of 728 office workers, over 40 years old: intervention group (376) and control (352) at baseline and after 2 years of a global health promotion program (based on nutrition, physical activity, and mental health) of mixed approach (individual, group and organizational) in the workplace of the intervention group. Results: Systolic and diastolic blood pressure experienced a statistically significant decrease (p ˂ 0.05) at 2 years of -0.94 mm Hg and -0.79 mm Hg in the intervention group versus the control group whose changes were + 0.02 mm Hg and -0.38 mm Hg. Glucose also decreased 1.59 mg/dl more in the intervention group. Lipids, smoking, body mass index or waist circumference did not undergo relevant modifications. Conclusion: This program improved blood pressure and glucose of office workers after two year follow-up, even among employees with low cardiovascular risk. However, according to the findings, this intervention was not as effective as expected in improving weight-related outcomes and cardiovascular risk in an office worker population. Companies should strengthen, not only an overall health intervention, but also individual and personalized advice in the fight against cardiovascular risk.</p
Is photographic posture analysis and trunk control different in hemiparetic and diparetic children with cerebral palsy?
Objective: Photographic posture analysis is a useful, inexpensive, time-efficient, and non-invasive method to assess posture. The primary purpose of this study was to compare PPA and trunk control between children with Diparetic and Hemiparetic Cerebral Palsy (CP). Methods: Fifty-two children with hemiparetic and diparetic CP whose GMFCS levels I and II were compared with PPA in sitting position and also trunk control was measured with Trunk Control Measurement Scale (TCMS). Results: There was no scientific difference in craniovertebral angle, sagittal head tilt, sagittal shoulder-C7 angle, thoracic kyphosis angle, coronal head tilt, coronal shoulder angle, coronal pelvic angle in PPA and TCMS between groups (p>0.05), however, there was a scientific difference in lumbar lordosis angle in PPA between the groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: Lumbar lordosis is more common in children with hemiparetic CP than diparetic CP. It can be thought that this situation requires children to change their body biomechanics to compensate their affected sides more than the children with diparetic CP. The physicians should take care of the postural alignment of the lumbar and pelvic girdle of hemiparetic CP. We think that muscle strength, muscle shortness, and other lower extremity biomechanics that could increase lordosis should be examined in detail in hemiparetic CP regardless of where the origin of lumbar lordosis (pelvis or lumbar region).</p

Together, healthcare professionals need to be aware of the significance antimicrobial resistance poses and make changes needed to mitigate the danger as a result of one of the most important developments in medicine. </p
Glucose and insulin levels’ linkages with breast cancer factors
Serum lipid and glucose metabolisms are considered as the intermediary mechanisms for connecting obesity and Breast Cancer (BC). The article aims to identify the linkages between diabetes biochemical factors such as glucose & insulin and BC biochemical factors such as Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (MCP-1), adiponectin, Homeostasis Model Assessment score Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), resistin, leptin. These objectives can be focused on the two separate statistical models of glucose & insulin based on the remaining factors. From the mean model of glucose, it is observed that mean glucose level is directly linked with BC women (P= 0.023), leptin (P<0.001), HOMA-IR (P<0.001), while it is inversely linked with the interaction effects between HOMA-IR & leptin (i.e., HOMA-IR*leptin (P<0.001)) and adiponectin & leptin (i.e., adiponectin* leptin (P= 0.088)). Similarly, from the mean model of insulin, it is observed that mean insulin level is directly linked with HOMA-IR (P<0.001), leptin (P<0.001), and the interaction effects Age*MCP-1 (P= 0.091), glucose*adiponectin (P= 0.043), glucose*resistin (P<0.001), MCP-1*HOMA-IR (P<0.001), while it is reciprocally linked with MCP-1 (P= 0.026), resistin (P<0.001), adiponectin (P= 0.078), HOMA-IR*body mass index (BMI) (P<0.001), glucose*HOMA-IR (P<0.001), leptin*adiponectin (P= 0.071). There are more linkages of the variances of insulin and glucose with the BC biochemical factors. Based on the summarized results it is interpreted that diabetes biochemical factors such as insulin and glucose are highly linked with BC biomarkers such as MCP-1, HOMA-IR, leptin, resistin, and adiponectin.</p
Cemento-ossifying fibroma
Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a rare benign fibro-osseous neoplasm commonly involving the jaws majority of lesions occur in mandible bone. It can be discovered as an incidental finding in radiological imaging. Symptomatic patients are presented with a slowly growing mass involving the jaws commonly in mandible bone and can attain a large size with the passage of time. It can cause facial deformity if left untreated. We present such a case of Cemento-ossifying fibroma involving the right hemi-mandible bone, and its radiological imaging findings, including X-ray (OPG), CT scan, and Histopathology. </p
Refractory hematuria post actinic cystitis. Role of potassium alumen as treatment - Case Report
Actinic cystitis hematuria is a frequent complication after pelvic radiotherapy, present in approximately 5% of patients exposed to this therapy. The management of these cases seems to be a challenge for today’s urologists. In this article, we present the case of a 73- year-old man diagnosed with actinic cystitis after pelvic radiotherapy and admitted to our service with a clinical picture of refractory macroscopic hematuria. During admission, the patient underwent multiple procedures and blood transfusions, without success in controlling hematuria. After a review of the literature, we chose to use Potassium Alum in the patient’s treatment. Under general anesthesia, we performed a cystoscopy with the evacuation of clots and subsequently infused a 1% solution of potassium alum into the bladder at a rate of 200 ml/h for 25 hours. Less than 24 hours after Alum infusion, there were no more clinical signs of hematuria, which remained until hospital discharge. After 6 months of treatment, the patient did not present another episode of hematuria.</p
An uncommon “third window” in retrofenestral otosclerosis
Otosclerosis is an otologic disease characterized by disordered resorption and deposition of the otic capsule bone. It can lead to progressive conductive, mixed or sensorineural Hearing Loss (HL). In rare cases, it manifests itself with a tendency for massive bone resorption with subsequent formation of cavities (“cavitating otosclerosis”). Cavities can sometimes realize communication between the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) at the Internal Auditory Canal (IAC) and the cochlear duct. In these uncommon cases, a “third-window” phenomenon may be established as a concomitant cause of conductive HL. Therefore, the feasibility of stapes surgery should be evaluated, without underestimating the risk of gusher complications.In this report, we discuss the case of a female patient affected by cavitating otosclerosis realizing a connection between IAC and cochlear duct, with mixed hearing loss.</p
Profile of patients with acute pancreatitis undergoing antibiotic prescription in Brazil
Approximately 5 to 10% of patients with Acute Pancreatitis (AP) develop necrosis and about 30% of these patients develop an infection, more than doubling the risk of mortality. The treatment of AP has undergone a major revolution in recent decades and recent studies advocate minimally invasive procedures and are based on antibiotic therapy. Underuse of antibiotics can lead to inappropriate treatment, while overuse encourages the emergence of resistant bacterial flora. With the objective to evaluate the profile of patients undergoing antibiotic prescription for acute pancreatitis, the authors carried out a retrospective cross-sectional study in a private hospital in Florianópolis, Brazil. Data collection took place through medical records and the variables were analyzed using simple and relative frequency, measures of central tendency, and their respective measures of variability/dispersion and standard deviation. The present study meets the bioethical principles determined by resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council. Of 91 included patients with acute pancreatitis, 38 (41,7%) received antibiotic therapy. Most were female (58,3%), aged between 40 and 59 years (41,7%). Patients that received antibiotics had more frequently severe presentations according to the Atlanta Revised Classification Criteria (47.4%); of those, in 13 (72.2%) the indication occurred in the presence of pancreatic necrosis or collections. A wide range of antibiotics was used, with Meropenem being the most prescribed (39.5%), followed by the combination of Ampicillin with Sulbactam (28.9%). Positive cultures showed carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 27,3% of those with positive cultures. The authors conclude that clinical presentation was more severe in cases where there was a need to use antimicrobials. Antibiotics are essential components in the treatment of patients with infection associated with acute pancreatitis and the employment of management protocols that take into account the resistance profile of the local flora is important.</p

This study is intended to provide for decision-makers simple criteria for determining which option or approach either dilute and disperse or concentrate and store of the Patient’s Excreta after Iodine therapy would be identical to the exemption criteria, the radiation risk is sufficiently low as not to warrant any further control and has no regulatory concern. Additionally, ensure that the selected option would be inherently safe, with no appreciable likelihood of scenarios that could lead to a failure to meet both no concern and no regulatory control.</p

I use the axiom that equal conditions must have the same result. Axiom proves that no matter how the velocity of an object changes, the time of all objects remains unchanged and unified.
