    The erosion/infiltration technique made by a polymer based on TEGDMA to mask the white lesions of the tooth

    It is common to observe anterior teeth that present white opacities of enamel in relation to hypomineralization. These lesions alter social life of children and adults. There is a recent non-invasive treatment that can remove these stains without loss of substance, keeping tooth structure intact. This treatment modifies the optical properties of the white spot by infiltrating a polymer based on trimethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA). This short article presents a method called erosion/ infiltration, which our team first described. Dentists must be aware of it, in order to treat patients with either fluorosis, MIH or trauma, so that much more invasive treatments such as veneers and crown can be avoided.</p

    BIM methodology implementation in structural design: Adaptation of procedures and information management

    Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a methodology that accompanies technological evolution and consists of a set of processes and tools that allows the creation of a three-dimensional digital model. This model centralizes information, facilitating its access and exchange between the entities along the life cycle of a building.This study focuses on the application of BIM methodology within the framework of a structural design, identifying the benefits and limitations that it provides and indicating strategies that may be used to improve the quality of a project. A structural model was created through BIM-based platforms and then transferred to the calculation software where the structural analysis and design were carried out. After this, through the conceived digital model, various applications that it allows were explored, namely, the method of coordination and collaboration, detection of conflicts, production of drawings, the budget, and an immediate evaluation of the environmental impact of the structureThis study demonstrates a significant improvement in the quality of the structural design. Therefore, even though some limitations still exist, the implementation of this methodology is essential to improve the process in the AEC sector.</p

    Variation among <em>gari</em> samples of some yellow cassava (<em>Manihot esculenta</em> Crantz) varieties for change in color during storage

    Carotenoids in bio-fortified gari are degraded by light and oxidation during storage resulting in fading of their yellow color. In this study, gari from yellow-root (bio-fortified) cassava varieties (YCVs) were evaluated for color change during storage in two seasons. About 400 g of fresh gari samples of five YCVs (IITA-TMSI011368, IITA-TMSI011371, IITA-TMSI011412, IITA-TMSI070539 and IITA-TMS-I070593) and white-root variety (TMEB419-check) were packaged in transparent plastics to ensure exposure to light. The samples were evaluated monthly for color change using a chart with a scale of 1 (white) to 8 (pink) for 12 months in each season. Data collected were subjected to ANOVA, descriptive and correlation analyses. Reduction in yellow color intensity was observed among the yellow gari samples in the first month from average of 4.40 to 3.53 representing about 20% decrease. At 12 months after processing, varieties IITA-TMSI011368 and IITA-TMSI011371 had the highest (68%) and least (58%) yellow pigment retention, respectively. There was significant variation among the varieties for gari color change and yellow pigment retention over the storage period. Therefore, carotenoid content in bio-fortified gari depends on the cassava variety and storage period. These factors should be considered in future breeding program to improve cassava for carotenoid content.</p

    Compounding effects of adult ADHD and comorbidities on intimate relationships

    Although research about adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (adult ADHD) has become more prevalent since the condition’s recognition in the 1990s, information remains scarce about if and how its psychiatric comorbidities may compound impact on functionality in relationships. Studies abound on the independent effects on relationships of two of adult ADHD’s most common comorbidities - mood and substance use disorders. However, adults with ADHD sans comorbidities often experience interpersonal relationship difficulties due to the disorder’s signature symptoms alone - hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattentiveness - as well as due to adult ADHD’s oft-observed dimension of emotional lability. The primary purpose of this study is to review the literature regarding the impact on intimate relationships of adult ADHD, as well as look at the potential compounding effects of comorbid mood or substance use disorder. The secondary purpose of this paper is to examine the literature on integrative therapy to treat couples wherein at least one partner struggles with adult ADHD, with or without comorbidities. Future research and practice implications are also discussed, including the hope for focus on the positive aspects of ADHD for individuals and relationships.</p

    Characterization and grading of Black Bengal goat skin based on coat color

    The research was conducted to study physical parameters and histological structural patterns based on the coat color of Black Bengal goat skins. Five hundred skins were randomly selected, and measured using scientific instruments and the Haematoxylin-Eosin staining method was used for histological study. Black coat color skin was found the highest (58%), the mean weight, length, and width of Black Bengal goat skin was 998.80 gm, 29.24, and 20.91 cm, respectively but there were no significant differences among the groups. The mean thickness of the skin was 1.97, 1.43, and 1.96 mm in the butt, bell, and shoulder regions, respectively, and significantly different between the groups in all categories. All slaughtered goats were flayed using the “Muchki” (Hoisting and fisting) method. The average flay cut length, depth, and mechanical and parasitic damages were 20.2 mm, 1.50 mm, 6.11, and 1.50 %, respectively. No significant difference (p &gt; 0.05) was found in inedible fleshing by-products, but significant differences (p &lt; 0.05) were found in trimming by-products production and salt required for curing. Salted skins were preserved for an average of 3.5 days. Hair follicles, sebaceous glands, erector pili muscles, collagen fibers, and fiber bundles were more regular in the butt region than shoulder and belly regions in the black, brown, white, and mixed coat color of Black Bengal goat skins.&nbsp;</p

    Influence of intra-row spacing on improved maize variety at Dambi Dollo University Research Site, Western Ethiopia

    Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the greatest significant grain crops in Ethiopia which ranked second only next tef in local production. However, its production is limited due to incorrect line spaces between crops. Therefore, field research was conducted at Dambi Dollo University during the 2020/2021 growing season under irrigated conditions for the production and yield of hybrid maize (BH546) with the help of optimizing spaces between rows. The test is performed using a three-dimensional Random Block Design with three replication in a single-factor test having three different line spaces (20 cm, 30 cm and 40 cm). The highest values ​​of total ears in each crop, length of the ears, total seed rows in each cob, seed in each cob, the weight of a thousand grains, seed yield, and the harvest index are recorded in wide spaces (40 cm). The performance of hybrid maize (BH546) and part of the crop, a wide range of 40 cm rows between crops can be recommended in the study area.&nbsp;</p

    Psychiatric co-morbidities and substance abuse are dominant factors in Predicting Emergency Department usage rates

    Importance: 1% of the United States population accounts for 20% of healthcare costs. What characterizes heavy users of the Emergency Department (UED) both demographically and clinically is an area of active research.Objective: Compare the proportion of nine common co-morbidities between heavy, moderate, and infrequent users then compare episodic and continuous heavy UED.&nbsp;Setting: A large metropolitan healthcare system.Participants: Heavy users were selected using a retrospective chart review of Barnes-Jewish Emergency Department records from 2010-2011. Emergency department usage for all unique patients seen in the time period specified was determined for two non-overlapping 365-day periods. Patients were stratified into 1 of 3 groups: Heavy users (&gt; 10 visits for both periods), moderate users (5-9 visits for both periods), and infrequent users (1 visit in either the first or last period). There were 546 moderate users and 59,957 infrequent users matched 1:1 against 160 heavy users. These patients were matched for age, race, gender, and insurance. The 160 continuous heavy users were also compared to 388 patients who had &gt; 10 visits in the first period, but not the second period, and 443 patients who had &gt; 10 visits in the second period, but not the first. The proportion of subjects within each group was compared based on nine co-morbidities (substance abuse, mental illness, chronic pain, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, liver disease, cancer and stroke) using 95% confidence intervals.Results: Infrequent users had lower rates of all co-morbidities. Moderate users had similar rates of all co-morbidities to heavy users, except slightly higher CVA rates (13.7% v 10.6%; p = 0.49), lower rates for mental illness (33.3% v 43.1%; p = 0.08) and significantly lower rates for substance abuse (17% v 35%; p &lt; 0.001). Only substance abuse demonstrated a significant difference between episodic and continuous heavy UED (35% v 23.5%; p = 0.002).&nbsp;Conclusion: Among nine common co-morbidities, only substance abuse rates were significantly higher among heavy users compared to matched moderate UED in our healthcare system. Infrequent users had lower rates of all co-morbidities. When comparing continuous and episodic heavy emergency department users, only substance abuse rates were significantly higher.</p

    A microwave-based system combines drying, extraction and sterilization under low-temperature vacuum conditions

    This study develops a simultaneous system combining low-temperature drying, extraction, and sterilization under low temperature, by comprising a microwave source and a vacuum chamber. The study commences by investigating the reduction in moisture content under microwave heating in vacuum conditions as a function of the drying time, the material load, and the microwave output power. Subsequently, the study compares the results obtained for the yield and composition of the essential oil extracted from Coleus amboinicus Loureiro leaves using the proposed system with those obtained using a conventional steam distillation technique. Finally, the study investigates the performance of the developed system in inactivating Bacillus subtilis spores using a low-pressure plasma sterilization technique. The experimental results show that the low-temperature vacuum conditions established in the proposed drying system accelerate the rate of moisture removal. Furthermore, the microwaves penetrate the interior of the material, heating the internal moisture directly. This not only reduces the drying time but also preserves the original flavor and appearance of the dried material. The extraction results show no significant difference between the final yield percentages and compositions of the essential oils extracted using the proposed system and the distilled steam technique, respectively. However, the extraction time is reduced from 90 minutes in the distilled steam method to just 30 minutes in the proposed system. Finally, the plasma sterilization results demonstrate that the proposed system reduces the number of colony-forming units of Bacillus subtilis from 170 to 7 within a treatment time of 1 s, and achieves complete sterilization following 180 s.</p
