マンガに描かれた古代メソアメリカ(前編) : 手塚が拓き、オカルトブームに興り、少女マンガを彩る
Ancient Mesoamerica Illustrated in Manga (Part One) Pioneered by Tezuka, fueled by the occult boom, and adorning shojo manga.
KOBAYASHI Takanori
How has ancient Mesoamerica been imagined as a world by the Japanese? Indeed, it is true that, like the Andean civilization, Mesoamerican civilization remains relatively unfamiliar in Japan, with perceptions often shaped by notions of "mystery" and "enigma" that tend to dominate its image. This study seeks to elucidate how Mesoamerica has been represented in Japanese popular culture and how notions of mystery and wonder have been propagated within the broader society. Specifically, this study focuses on manga, particularly narrative manga, which represents a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, and examines the depiction of Mesoamerica in various works. Since Osamu Tezuka, often regarded as the founder of narrative manga, the manga industry has experienced remarkable growth and development. Through repeated waves of popularity, the manga industry has diversified its genres and themes while expanding its readership and market; however, narrative manga has consistently remained the central focus. This paper, which primarily focuses on works from the second half of the 20th century, presents narrative manga works that incorporate elements of ancient Mesoamerica as motifs, organized by decade. It examines the depictions and models of the settings, as well as the relationship to the story and emerging trends. This study aims to clarify how the mysterious imagery of Mesoamerica was shaped within the context of the socio-historical background of the periods in which each work was released.departmental bulletin pape
The Changing Role of Teachers in Contemporary Society and the Challenges of Self-Improvement.
departmental bulletin pape
Dynamics of Chemotactic Particles in Heterogeneous Environments
Chemotaxis guides cellular movement in response to chemical gradients, yet the link between microscopic movement strategies and macroscopic dynamics remains unclear. This study examines two chemotactic models: a gradient-sensing model (KS Model) and a local-sensing model (IM Model). To analyze the emergent macroscopic behavior, we derive governing equations for both models using a master equation formulation and a Fokker-Planck approximation. Numerical simulations are performed in both one-dimensional and two-dimensional environments to examine how environmental heterogeneity affects chemotactic dynamics. The effects are quantified by evaluating key metrics such as escape time and relaxation time. Results show that increasing chemotaxis strength prolongs escape time, while relaxation time behaves differently: it initially decreases in the KS model but increases at high chemotaxis levels, whereas in the IM model, it grows exponentially, indicating prolonged trapping. Environmental obstacles further amplify these effects, particularly in the KS model, where strong chemotaxis leads to long-tailed relaxation time distributions.departmental bulletin pape
