There is a substantial disparity between "minor" and "major" languages, such as English, in terms of the number of users, learners, and the availability of dictionaries. While advancements in Information Technology (IT) have widened this gap, they also offer opportunities to promote dictionary creation for "minor" languages. Motivated by the growing interest in Ukraine and the Ukrainian language in Japan, as well as the arrival of Ukrainian refugees following the Russian invasion of 2022, I began creating a Ukrainian digital dictionary, drawing upon my experience in developing a digital Czech dictionary. Although IT has simplified the digitization process of dictionaries, the creation of manuscript content remains time-consuming. To address this challenge, I experimented with generative AI to draft the Ukrainian dictionary and expand the Czech dictionary from 57,000 to 124,000 entries. This paper outlines the processes and outcomes of these experiments and introduces an AI-based method for dictionary creation. It seems that creating digital dictionaries with generative AI is feasible for any language if two conditions are met: the availability of frequency data or a corpus of the respective language, and AI's ability to effectively process the language. As generative AI continues to evolve, its capabilities and output are expected to improve, enhancing the potential for creating digital dictionaries and PDF book versions for "minor" languages that lack commercial publishing support.departmental bulletin pape
