    Get PDF

Assessing a Spanish translation of the end-user computing satisfaction instrument

    No full text
This study assesses the psychometric properties of a Spanish translation of Doll and Torkzadeh\u27s EndUser Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) survey instrument. The results show that the EUCS Spanish version is a valid and reliable measure of computing satisfaction among computer users in Mexico and adds support to the usefulness of the instrument in countries other than the United States and in languages other than English. © 2009, IGI Global

The information overload paradox: A structural equation modeling analysis of data from New Zealand, Spain, and the USA

    No full text
The information overload phenomenon has been studied for many years, and has proven to be more complex than researchers believed it to be. The study presented here aims at shedding some light on the complexity of information overload, by examining the relationship between perceived information overload intensity and three traditional and one nontraditional information overload predictors. The nontraditional predictor was power distance, which was manipulated through the collection of data from 184 local managers and professionals in New Zealand, Spain and the USA. The data analyses employed partial least squares-based structural equation modeling, and led to one surprising conclusion: perceived information overload intensity seems to be more strongly related to power distance than to the volume of written information or number of information transactions processed by an individual. This conclusion is referred to here as the information overload paradox. [Article copies are available for purchase from InfoSci-on-Demand.com].©2009, IGI Global

An evolutionary game theoretic perspective on e-collaboration: The collaboration effort and media relativeness

    No full text
Studies of e-collaboration from a game-theoretical perspective are practically nonexistent. This article contributes to filling this gap by focusing on the strategic interaction between players as they decide whether and how much to collaborate with each other. We use evolutionary game theory to make predictions about a two-person e-collaboration game. More specifically, we extend the traditional Prisoners\u27 Dilemma and Snowdrift game theory notions to discrete-strategy e-collaboration games, by explicitly including social punishments into the players\u27 payoff functions. We also introduce continuous-strategy e-collaboration games with both complete and incomplete information. Finally, we provide two generic dynamic programming models for e-collaboration games with media selection. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

E-Collaboration issues in global trade, transactions, and practices

    No full text
E-collaboration goes beyond ordinary buying and selling activities. It includes information sharing and integration, decision-making, as well as process and resource allocation among people and organizations via the Internet, e-mail, web, video, and wireless devices to achieve optimal productivity and high performance. It promotes international commerce, expands trade, and facilitates financial transactions through electronic media. Even though paper transactions are now a thing of the past, most legal documents, attestations, and affidavits are still done in paper form. This paper summarizes issues involved in e-collaboration with regard to trade such as time, currency, e-transactions, tracking, security, fault tolerance, and process models. Finding effective solutions for these problems as well as identifying opportunities and challenges provides a pivotal task in facilitating, promoting, and expanding international and local trade as this summary entails. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2009

Examining relational and resource influences on the performance of border region SMEs

    No full text
At the U.S.-Mexico border, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are embedded in dual natured institutional and cultural contexts that share common functional and morphological characteristics. In this context firms are challenged by moving from one organizing template to another as embedded network influences constrain and enhance strategic outcomes. We develop and test a model of the impact of embeddedness components including social capital, personal relations and economic interaction on firm outcomes. Our results indicate that these components combine to influence the development of valuable resources and firm adaptation. We find that resources and adaptation significantly relate to SME performance. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

An institutional perspective on foreign direct investment: A multi-level frameworkwork

    No full text
    • The process of foreign direct investment (FDI) is inherently uncertain as decisions surrounding investments are impacted by fragmented environments which offer contested views as to appropriate actions. • We propose a multi-level organizing framework of institutional influences on FDI and examine the differential effect of these forces at two points in time: Prior to a first investment and upon subsequent investments. • We posit that upon initial entry, firms are impacted primarily by coercive host country pressures, industry mimeticism, and internal firm norms. We expect these influences to change on subsequent entries with normative forces having the most salience. © 2009 Gabler-Verlag

    No full text
Actualmente, cabe atribuir esta denominación a tres compañías: Time Warner, News Corporation y Bertelsmann.

Using SWAT to model streamflow in two river basins with ground and satellite precipitation data

    No full text
Both ground rain gauge and remotely sensed precipitation (Next Generation Weather Radar - NEXRAD Stage III) data have been used to support spatially distributed hydrological modeling. This study is unique in that it utilizes and compares the performance of National Weather Service (NWS) rain gauge, NEXRAD Stage III, and Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) 3B42 (Version 6) data for the hydrological modeling of the Middle Nueces River Watershed in South Texas and Middle Rio Grande Watershed in South Texas and northern Mexico. The hydrologic model chosen for this study is the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), which is a comprehensive, physical-based tool that models watershed hydrology and water quality within stream reaches. Minor adjustments to selected model parameters were applied to make parameter values more realistic based on results from previous studies. In both watersheds, NEXRAD Stage III data yields results with low mass balance error between simulated and actual streamflow (±13%) and high monthly Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficients (NS \u3e 0.60) for both calibration (July 1, 2003 to December 31, 2006) and validation (2007) periods. In the Middle Rio Grande Watershed NEXRAD Stage III data also yield robust daily results (time averaged over a three-day period) with NS values of (0.60-0.88). TRMM 3B42 data generate simulations for the Middle Rio Grande Watershed of variable qualtiy (MBE = +13 to -16%; NS = 0.38-0.94; RMSE = 0.07-0.65), but greatly overestimates streamflow during the calibration period in the Middle Nueces Watershed. During the calibration period use of NWS rain gauge data does not generate acceptable simulations in both watersheds. Significantly, our study is the first to successfully demonstrate the utility of satellite-estimated precipitation (TRMM 3B42) in supporting hydrologic modeling with SWAT; thereby, potentially extending the realm (between 50°N and 50°S) where remotely sensed precipitation data can support hydrologic modeling outside of regions that have modern, ground-based radar networks (i.e., much of the third world). © 2008 American Water Resources Association

Getting partners to take action: Influences on joint action in interfirm relationships

    No full text
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to understand the nature of joint action between firms, and to examine how interfirm linkages impact the development of information systems that impact joint action. The research also examines how economic dependence impacts joint action or joint activities between firms. While the importance of interfirm relations has been widely acknowledged, the relationships between buyers and suppliers can vary widely on the amount of joint action they undertake with each other. Design/methodology/approach – Using structural equation modeling, the authors test a model of influences on joint action that incorporates elements of social norms that develop between partners, their economic dependence on each other, and a coordination mechanism of shared information systems. Findings – The findings indicate that joint action is influenced indirectly by some elements of social exchange, and instead is directly impacted by economic dependence and information systems. Social norms, specifically commitment, do impact the development of shared information systems. Research limitations/implications – This is a single industry study of automotive parts and accessories firms. Care should be taken in generalizing these findings to firms in similar settings – relatively small suppliers to larger assemblers or manufacturers. Originality/value – The value of this research is to help understand the elements of interfirm relations, their impact on information systems, the overall impact of these on joint action or joint activities between firms, and the role of economic dependence
