Antimicrobial activity of plant secondary metabolites: A review
The increasing incidence of microorganisms becoming resistant to antibiotics has continuously become a scientific community concern. Many scientists around the world are performing research on plants to be able to discover possible antimicrobial compounds. To date, many plant secondary compounds are known to have diverse biological activities. These may include antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer activities. In this regard, many scientists want to isolate, purify and identify plant secondary metabolites. The aim of this study is to provide recent insights on the different secondary metabolites class and the experimental evidences of antibacterial activities against many different pathogens. © 2014 Academic Journals Inc

The unconstrained binary quadratic programming problem: A survey
In recent years the unconstrained binary quadratic program (UBQP) has grown in importance in the field of combinatorial optimization due to its application potential and its computational challenge. Research on UBQP has generated a wide range of solution techniques for this basic model that encompasses a rich collection of problem types. In this paper we survey the literature on this important model, providing an overview of the applications and solution methods. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York
Price competition and market transparency: Evidence from a random response technique
Surveys can increase market transparency when information asymmetries are present-but this will only happen when respondents answer questions truthfully. Sometimes, however, it might not be in the respondents\u27 best interest to provide truthful information on their firm or market. This will be especially true when other firms can exploit any information they provide. Understanding when, and under what conditions, respondents answer questions truthfully is important to researchers studying these markets and to policymakers using firm surveys to identify ways of improving the business environment. Using data from two countries in South Asia, this paper uses a random response technique to identify respondents that do not answer truthfully. We label these respondents as \u27reticent\u27. We show that respondents become more reticent when their firms face intense price competition. We argue that this is because intense competition gives respondents a greater incentive to misreport information to reduce market transparency. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York
Position unmanned aerial vehicles in the mobile Ad hoc network
This paper considers the problem of employing multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) as relay backbone nodes to construct the backbone network, to improve the network connectivity, and to address many issues in the MANET such as linkage, capacity, load balance, and reliability. With considering the dynamic nature of the problem, this study provides several linear location problem models and their extensions to accommodate these issues. Due to the size of linear location models associated with a large number of constraints, the problem becomes computational challenging even with modest size of nodes. To overcome the computational barrier, we recast these location problem models using a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) framework and solve these QUBO models with a Tabu search heuristic with preprocessing. The analysis of the solutions that are produced by QUBO together with the comparisons made with the linear model highlight both the attractiveness and robustness of the proposed approach. The results of this study provide support to future advanced routing protocol development. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht

The results suggest that, in general, reports about police and crime are predominant, and within these, reports about individual events are the most common. In particular, the selected local newspaper devoted a higher proportion of news reports to seizures and a lesser proportion to context, international cooperation and victims than the newspaper with a broader reach; the selected television newscast devoted a higher proportion of reports to seizures and violent crimes and a lesser proportion to context, declarations and victims than the selected newspaper with broader reach. It is concluded that, despite drug trafficking and organized crime in Mexico being complex, multifactorial and historically-rooted problems, the national news media tend to publish and broadcast a higher proportion of news reports about police and crime topics, particularly about individual police-related events.
