Realization and Utilization of Virtual Reality Environment with CAVE System
In this paper, an installation of our CAVE virtual reality system and its application is described. A CAVE system is based on immersive projection to walls and floors. It can produce virtual reality environments by showing stereo, immersive and interactive view to users. The hardware configuration of our CAVE system consists of triple screen stereo projection and a PC cluster. The application development is performed with CAVELib API and OpenGL. The virtual reality environment realized by this system is utilized for intuitive education and reconstruction of 3D human model.departmental bulletin pape

A Personal Retrospection of the Serial Lecture on Kohei HANAZAKI's Thought : From the Perspective of the Third Person “I”
The People's Plan Study Group (PPSG http://www.peoples-plan.org/jp/), set up in 1998 as a network of social movement activists and action-committed intellectuals, aims to search for alternative social, economic, and cultural systems controlled by the people that will eventually take over global capitalism with all its destructive consequences. PPSG initiated an alternative school, OPEN (an abbreviation for “An Opening for People’s Education Network”) in 2008. And this school offered a serial lecture on the thought of a Japanese philosopher, Kohei HANAZAKI (born in 1931) from 2014 to 2015. In this paper, I will try to make a retrospective review of this lecture in series from the perspective of the Third Person “I”, which unites the first person's subjectivity and the third person's objectivity.departmental bulletin pape
Workpiece Behavior in the Milling Process of a Shaft : Influence of Cutting Forces and Workpiece Behavior on Tool Attitudes
The development of a CNC lathe having a milling spindle significantly improved the productivity of circular shafts with a straight groove and/or a plane surface on an outside surface of a workpiece. However, in the case of milling of shafts with a large length and a small diameter, workpiece deflection induced by cutting forces causes deterioration of surface quality and chatter vibration. This investigation deals with an analysis of workpiece behavior and optimization of the machining conditions for ball-end milling a shaft with a small flexural rigidity in the direction of perpendicular to the shaft axis. In this report, cutting forces during milling for various tool attitudes are calculated by using the cutting model and an energy method. Then, the workpiece deflection is analyzed on the basis of calculated results of cutting forces, and the trajectory of workpiece axis during abovementioned milling process is discussed. As the results, it is clarified that tool attitudes in which deflection and machining error of the shaft can be small.departmental bulletin pape
