Continuation of Anti-reversion Theory : Reconsidering the Philosophy of Keitoku Okamoto
The purpose of this article is reconsidering the philosophy of Keitoku Okamoto opposed against the “reversion” of Okinawa to Japan in terms of its continuity after May of 1972. His anti-reversion theory was developed for trying to reject the national integration into Japan. In his theory, the reversion process had been carried out through utilizing “communal physiology” of the people in Okinawa, the way to understand the world as a structure of concentric circle, and representative politics. This article explores reversion process was not finished in May 1972, but continued after 1972 through above-mentioned three routes. As Okamoto mentioned and suggested in some essays after 1972, national projects for the development of Okinawa such as the construction of Central Terminal Station (CTS) in Okinawa Island had the important role to subsume Okinawa under the political and economic structure of Japan. Therefore, Okamoto’s antireversion theory was transformed in order to grasp continuous integration process after 1972. He emphasized the role of social movements created and activated the autonomy and direct actions of the people living in Okinawa against ongoing reversion process. Finally, this article argues the importance and actuality of Okamoto’s philosophy in current situation regarding the construction of a new U.S. military base in Henoko and new helipads in Takae.departmental bulletin pape

Development of Novel Sewer Pipe for Self-purification
A novel sewer pipe with a double-deck structure was developed for in-sewer treatment. The purification rates were ca. 10 g-BOD/(m•d). Furthermore, the performance of the novel pipe coupled with simple post-treatments was also examined. The coagulation was the most efficient: BOD was successfully decreased to below 20 mg/L by the in-sewer treatment followed by the addition of polyaluminum chloride. The novel pipe, therefore, may be promising technology for both BOD reduction (independent usage) and alternative secondary treatment (coupled with coagulation).departmental bulletin pape
Image Strategy of Nogizaka46 : How Do Young People Perceive It?
Nogizaka46, one of the top idol groups in Japan, was established as an official rival of AKB48 in 2012. Although its image was initially intended to be different from that of AKB48, ordinary people have some difficulty differentiating the group’s image as unique. This study examines how Nogizaka46 is perceived by young people, utilizing data collected from university students in Tokyo, Japan. Data analysis shows that Nogizaka46 has a distinctly different image from AKB48. Further, the effect of recognition of members on preferences for Nogizaka46 is partially mediated by its image as a beautiful group. In this article, future implications for strategic development of an idol group’s image are also discussed.departmental bulletin pape
