A Case Study of a Bilingual Classroom and Its Implications for Language Management
While recent developments in language policy and planning studies have allowed us to examine how power is exercised and/or institutionalized in any given arena, it has also blinded us to the proposition that language may not have to be, or indeed is not, always managed with reference to any specific agenda. This case study takes a closer look at how participants in a bilingual classroom context negotiate their language choices and create meaning regarding what happens in the community, or how they ‘do’ language as legitimate members of the community. The classroom observation and follow-up interviews suggest that classroom language often simply takes its form as the participants try to perform their best as community members who are gathered together in the pursuit of shared goals.departmental bulletin pape

Interpreter Training in English Language Education in Japan
The aim of this paper is two-fold: first is to argue that interpreting exercises can be regarded as a good example of Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT); second to claim that incorporating interpreting training can be an effective way of facilitating the leaner's active and independent learning both in and outside of language classrooms. It first presents different scenarios of how interpreting, as well as translation, is (or is not) incorporated in language education in Europe on the one hand and in Japan on the other. Next, it describes TBLT and how interpreting can present a good example of TBLT practice. It then discusses if learning interpreting could serve as an effective method for language learning in a university setting. A small study is presented to support the argument.departmental bulletin pape

Convergence from Cournot to Bertrand through Successive Delegation
departmental bulletin pape
Reconsideration of the Essence of the “OCB for the Organization” Dimension
This study addresses the problem of the organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) scale, which has been established in previous literature on OCB. Past OCB research basically divided OCB into OCB for individuals and OCB for the organization. However, the scale items of the latter seem to measure the degree to which workers fulfill formal obligation. This study analyzes the OCB data collected from workers in Japan and indicates that OCB for the organization should be interpreted as OCB for a good, constructive atmosphere in the organization. Based on the idea that all the three OCB dimensions are related to human aspects of the organization, this study further confirms the interactive relationship among three OCB dimensions. Research implication for future studies is also introduced.departmental bulletin pape
