    Where is Europe Heading after Corona : The Threat of Regional Powers and the Pitfalls on the Road Ahead

    As of 2021, Europe is entering a new period in two respects. One is that the COVID-19 virus effect that has continued since 2020 has be controlled due to the vaccine program, and the world after COVID-19 has become visible. The other is that the rift between the United States and Europe, which emerged during the four-year U.S. Trump administration, is showing signs of healing with the birth of the U.S. Biden administration, and is able to produce a unity that regards China as a common enemy. Otherwise, there are still many unstable factors in the situation surrounding Europe. Regional powers such as Russia and Turkey, which had been the target of democratization support from Europe, have become more authoritarian, and instead, have intervened in Europe in various ways, threatening European values such as democracy and human rights. However, Europe's greatest threat is within not without. The possibility that the right wing will take power in major European countries cannot be ruled out, in which case the existence of the G7 and EU itself will be threatened. It is also a concern that the nature of European populism has changed from the former "politics to gain popularity” to a politics that controls and manipulates citizens.departmental bulletin pape

    Development of New Environmental Remediation Materials Using Arsenic Hyperaccumulator, Pteris vittata Biomass

    Phytoremediation, an environmental remediation method using plants, is expected to be applied to the arsenic(As) and cadmium(Cd) pollution that is becoming more serious worldwide. However, one of the challenges is the treatment of biomass containing toxic elements after remediation. In this study, we investigated the effective use of biomass resources by converting the arsenic hyperaccumulator, P. vittata, into biochar that is expected to adsorb toxic elements. In fact, plant biomass containing arsenic was calcined at 600, 800, and 1200°C to evaluate its surface structure and adsorption performance for As and Cd. calcination at 1200°C increased the specific surface area of biochar, but did not significantly affect its adsorption capacity for toxic elements. The calcined biochars showed approximate 90% and 95% adsorption rates for As and Cd, respectively, indicating that the calcined biochars had very high adsorption capacity and the adsorption amount per unit weight biochar was 450 mg/ g-biochar for both elements.departmental bulletin pape

    Measures against COVID-19 in Mainland China : Pathway to “Zero Infection” Policy, and the Actual State

    While the global spread of the COVID-19 virus cannot be expected to converge, mainland China, which was the first place where the virus spread, has reached "Zero Corona". Unlike Japan and Western countries, the reason is that the Chinese government authorities took a policy to strongly restrict the private rights of citizens from early on. How is the “Zero Corona policy” established and how is it developed? This paper discussed the process and the actual situation through on-site consideration and data analysis. The Chinese government made a question, "What is needed to achieve zero?", then updated its measure by accumulating knowledge and experience in dealing with the spread of infection in Wuhan and various parts in the mainland. This measure has been effective for a year and a half in eliminating viruses. In addition, the reason of the fact that these measures are implemented, while the government recognized the magnitude of the loss caused by neglecting the measures, the government and citizens in mainland china the region where the unknown virus spread first in the world have a peculiar "fear of the virus", it has become clear that the fear playing a major role for zero corona policy.departmental bulletin pape

    Effect of Organization and Workgroup Identification on Attitudinal and Behavioral Factors

    Organizational identification refers to the phenomenon in which employees identify themselves with the organization they currently work for. Although organizational identification is an important factor that influences or is influenced by other factors, employees can have a relationship with and identify their selves with various levels of societal systems. This study empirically examines whether organizational and workgroup identifications have different effects on attitudinal or behavioral factors. A stepwise regression analysis of data collected from 312 employees in Japan revealed the significant positive impact of workgroup identification on work satisfaction and pay satisfaction and the positive influence of organizational identification on organizational commitment and pay satisfaction. Workgroup identification also impacted behaviors such as organizational citizenship behavior and in-role behaviors, but the two types of identif ication did not influence organizational retaliatory behavior.departmental bulletin pape
