The Influence of Flemish Immigrants on British Socio-Political History
No full textThis study investigates the“ two-tier” structure of British society, comprising a ruling elite of foreign migrants and their descendants─primarily from the Continent, especially Normandy and Flanders─and the indigenous Anglo-Saxon majority. It also explores how this dual structure influenced the development of British socio-political history, seemingly shaped by these distinctive characteristics. The analysis relies on the migration backgrounds of the ruling classes, as reflected in their surnames, genealogies, and, where available, DNA evidence.本研究で解明するのは、ケルトは別としてもイギリス国民の大半を成す、ほとんどデンマーク人とも言えるスカンジナビア的なアングロ・サクソンの一般国民の上に、ノルマン征服によるノルマン（およびフランドル）系の支配階級が位置する基本構造である。しかもその後も度重なるフランドルからの集団移住、さらには宗教改革・オランダ独立戦争期のフランス・フランドルからのユグノーを含むプロテスタントの大量移住があったからこそ、その一連の結果としての現在の、外来の移住系住民が一般国民の上位に位置する「イギリス」があるという事実である。そしてとりわけそのフランドル移民の影響を受けた人口・社会動態がイギリスの政治社会史（対外的な影響も含む）にいかなる影響を与えてきたかを、カギとなる人物の民族的・家系的背景を探ることにより解明に努めた。departmental bulletin pape
