The EU e-commerce market in a pandemic context – linking demographic factors and territorial convergence
This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the European Union’s e-commerce market within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. It examines the correlation between demographic factors and the territorial convergence of e-commerce activities across EU member states. By leveraging empirical data and employing the General Linear Model – Repeated Measures (GLM-RM) to analyze temporal changes in the phenomena of interest across EU countries, the study provides a nuanced understanding of the market’s evolution during and after the pandemic. The research reveals a notable expansion in the EU’s e-commerce market value, leading to a reduction in economic disparities among member states. It highlights the role of consumer demographics in shaping online shopping behavior, with age being a pivotal factor that demonstrates significant variations. Additionally, the study delves into the differential performance of various product categories, reflecting a pattern of selective sectoral convergence. A key finding is the pandemic’s dual role as a disruptor and an accelerator for digital integration, particularly in enhancing digital inclusivity in less economically developed EU regions. This study contributes to the broader discourse on e-commerce market dynamics in times of global crises, offering valuable insights for policymakers and business strategists
Consumer behaviour towards sponsored-labelled targeted advertisements on Meta platforms in the context of Mauritius
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of ‘sponsored’ labelled targeted ads in Mauritius and whether these ads can impact the brand awareness and purchase intention of Meta group social media users. By adopting the Uses and Gratification Theory (UGT), this research brings forward a conceptual model of six constructs (customisation, informativeness, entertainment, intrusiveness, brand awareness and Purchase intention) to quantitatively understand the effectiveness of targeted ads on Meta Platforms. A sample of 382 students participated in the survey, where 333 valid responses were used for further analysis. In this research, Confirmatory Factor Analysis was utilised to examine the measurement model for brand awareness, customization, informativeness value, entertainment value, intrusiveness value, and purchase intention. The fit indices indicated a reasonable fit between the model and the data. Using Structural Equation Modelling to test the model, the regression weight between customisation, informativeness, entertainment, intrusiveness and brand awareness were statistically significant. The regression weight between brand awareness and purchase intention was also statistically significant. Practically, the findings emphasize the need for marketers and advertisers to invest in strategies that effectively increase brand awareness through targeted advertising
The effects of extreme climate events on green technology innovation in manufacturing enterprises
The increasing intensity and frequency of extreme climate events have made improving the adaptability to extreme climate events a strategic imperative for manufacturing companies. This paper investigates whether manufacturing enterprises increase green technology innovation affected by different extreme climate events. Based on panel data of Chinese listed manufacturing enterprises, we show that extreme precipitation events can positively promote green technology innovation, yet extreme temperature events do not. Heterogeneity analyses suggest that the effect of extreme precipitation events on green technology innovation is more significant for non-state-owned enterprises, poor performance enterprises, and high R&D intensity enterprises than other enterprises. Furthermore, the facilitating effect of extreme precipitation events on green technology innovation is merely temporary
Anatomy of the economic value generated by a cultural event
The article measures the economic effects of decisions made by two agents in the cultural and creative sector. Managers of a cultural event decide to produce it: it mobilizes a flow of artists and creatives who materialize their creations. Individuals decide to visit it: it mobilizes a flow of individuals who produce experiences by attending the event. The result is revealed by the economic dimension of the value generated by a cultural event: new income and jobs for the host territory of the event and unique and authentic cultural experiences for those attending the event. The empirical literature has drawn attention to the need for more precise measures of economic value, in particular that do not overestimate. A combination of instruments is used: interviews (n = 6) with event managers/organizers; a face-to-face survey (n = 173) with representatives of commercial stalls; a face-to-face survey of attendees (n = 1,030); and, an input–output model is adapted to the area of impact. The article provides a methodologically useful framework for identifying and estimating more reliable measures of the material (economic) value created by a cultural event, which can be replicated in a variety of events around the world
Detecting bubbles in world aluminum prices: Evidence from GSADF test
The aim of this research is to assess the existence of multiple bubbles in the global aluminum market by employing the Generalized Supremum Augmented Dickey-Fuller (GSADF) methodology. This method offers practical time series analysis tools for identifying periods of rapid price escalation, followed by subsequent collapses. Findings indicate the identification of six explosive bubbles occurring between January 1980 and March 2023, during which the aluminum price strayed from its underlying fundamental value. Additionally, this finding is consistent with the asset pricing model, which generally considers both fundamental and bubble components. Based on the empirical results, the aluminum price bubbles are positively influenced by the copper price, GDP, the U. S dollar index, industrialization of China, China’s urbanization rate, whereas the global aluminum production, oil price, and base metal price index have a negative explanatory effect on the aluminum price bubbles. To effectively stabilize the international aluminum price, policymakers are suggested to be vigilant in identifying bubble episodes and monitoring their progression. Additionally, regulatory authorities should implement measures to curb excessive speculative activity during periods of extreme market volatility, thereby mitigating excessive price fluctuations and the formation of aluminum bubbles
Factors influencing the use of computer-assisted audit techniques in the digital era
Digitalization is a challenge of the current environment, and the digital transition has extended to the audit profession. It affects the technology used by clients and the pressure on auditors by audit regulations to apply and use computer-assisted audit techniques (CAATs). The results of specialized literature indicate that the application and use of CAATs in auditing practice are limited. Thus, the present research aimed to investigate the factors that could influence the use of CAATs by auditors, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The empirical investigation consisted of 112 questionnaires that were analyzed by external auditors. The research results indicated a positive influence on the behavioral intention to use CAATs, which was influenced by performance expectations and facilitating conditions. In contrast, effort expectations and social influence did not affect the behavioral intention to use CAATs. We conclude that management should have a greater involvement in encouraging the use and application of CAATs, including supporting the process with the necessary resources. This work augments the knowledge of the factors that influence the behavioral intention to use CAATs among auditors in Romania and can be a useful resource for practitioners
A contextual model for assessing the nexus between green innovation practices and enterprise performance
The pursuit of green innovation and sustainable practices is increasingly growing currently because of the alarming environmental concerns and the coexistence of economic expansions. But the strategies employed by companies in exploring green innovation activities have gained little or no attention in literature. This study proposes a conceptual model that outlines green innovation strategies, corporate performance, and the moderating effect of green dynamic capacity. Based on the perspective of the Resource Based viewpoint and the notion of dynamic capabilities, this study addresses a) what is the relationship between green innovation practices and enterprise performance? and b) to what extent do green dynamic capabilities moderate the connection between green innovation practices and enterprise performance? We used a cross-sectional data from SMEs in Ghanaian manufacturing firms, analysed utilizing the advanced PLS-SEM systematic procedures. Our findings revealed a significant relationship between green product innovation, green process innovation, and green service innovation on financial performance and that green dynamic capacity moderate these relationships. Our research contributes to expanding the knowledge of green innovative practices among SMEs in the manufacturing sector. These findings have both theoretical and practical implications, opening numerous options for further research
A review of agent-based modeling in construction management: an analytical framework based on multiple objectives
The increased complexity of construction projects has caused various management challenges. To clarify the mechanism of construction system complexity and improve the ability to manage the complexity of construction projects, the Agent-based modeling (ABM) method has been introduced and used in the construction management field. Nevertheless, a systematic, holistic, and panoramic understanding of the use of the ABM model in the construction management field is still lacking. To address this research gap, this study reviewed 133 historical explorations retrieved from the database of Web of Science. By using the multiple objectives of construction management as the literature classification framework, the study described the research status of the agent-based modeling method in the field of construction management. On this basis, this paper suggested the improvement paths in the application of this method from three aspects. It is expected that this study will provide a theoretical basis for enhancing understanding of the use of the ABM method in construction management, and also provide insights for future explorations in the area
Green procurement in the construction industry: unfolding new underlying barriers for a developing country context
Despite the construction industry’s detrimental effects on environmental sustainability, the concept of green procurement (GP) is still relatively new in the developing world. The barriers hindering GP adoption need detailed investigation as studies in the context of developing countries are still limited and the underlying dimensions remain a known-unknown. This study appraised the critical barriers to GP adoption in the Malaysian construction industry. Twenty (20) barriers were identified from the detailed literature review and a field survey was conducted with 150 professionals. The ranking analysis results indicated the top five barriers are: high initial cost; lack of expertise and regulations; lack of government regulations; lack of top management commitment and lack of awareness among construction stakeholders. A factor analysis further identified five major underlying dimensions. The study showed that both government and organisational commitments are crucial in promoting GP adoption. This study adds to incremental knowledge in GP literature by analysing the critical barriers and the associated underlying dimensions to GP adoption in a developing country, which could help practitioners and policymakers in evaluating the organisation’s or industry’s readiness to adopt GP practices along with devising apt measures to mitigate the barriers to shift to sustainable and environmentally friendly construction
Research and analysis of the potential use of plastic waste from the mechanical processing of plastics
Plastic is increasingly used worldwide and is becoming an essential part of everyday life. There are many scientific articles on recycling or recycling methods for plastics, but so far there are few solutions for the use of the waste generated by plastic de-waste treatment processes. Proper management of plastic waste can reduce the negative impact on the environment and human beings. In this paper, the waste generated during the mechanical processing of plastic is investigated its suitability for biofilter loading. In this way, the amount of plastic waste generated could be reduced and the air could be cleaned from unpleasant odours and other pollutants generated during the treatment of plastic waste.

Plastiko mechaninio apdorojimo atliekų tyrimai ir panaudojimo galimybių analizė

Plastikas visame pasaulyje naudojamas vis dažniau ir tampa kasdienio gyvenimo dalimi. Yra nemažai mokslinių straipsnių apie plastiko perdirbimą ar perdirbimo būdus, tačiau iki šiol yra nedaug sprendimų, kaip panaudoti plastiko atliekų apdorojimo procesuose susidarančias atliekas. Tinkamai tvarkant plastiko atliekas, galima sumažinti neigiamą poveikį aplinkai ir žmogui. Šiame darbe tiriamos plastiko mechaninio apdorojimo metu susidarančių atliekų savybės ir jų tinkamumas panaudoti kaip oro valymo biofiltro įkrova. Naudojant šias atliekas kaip biofiltro įkrovą, būtų galima mažinti susidarančių plastiko atliekų kiekį ir atsirastų galimybė valyti nemalonius kvapus ir kitus teršalus iš oro, susidarančių plastiko atliekų apdorojimo ar kituose pramonės procesuose.
