    No full text
This paper explores the context of the creative society in the political speeches of leaders. The study uses qualitative content analysis to analyse the speeches of political leaders and citizen leaders, how they recur and reflect themes relevant to the creative society. Citizen leaders in the context of this study are well-known and active public figures, public figures, leaders of various non-governmental organizations who speak out on issues of public interest. Political leaders are politicians who carry out political communication, which is focused on attracting voters, and their speeches are part of their image-building. The study showed that political leaders are more likely to give speeches, but citizen leaders are more likely to give speeches on topics of creative public interest, their speeches tend to focus on themes such as exceptionalism, they seek to touch the audience’s feelings, they talk about how everyone wants to feel important, to make a contribution to solving a problem, and they emphasise how we can each contribute to the destruction of hierarchy. Political leaders usually talk about economic growth – North Atlantic Treaty Organization, European Union – but also about human freedoms, how they were fought for in the past and how important it is now. The results of this research can help citizens and political leaders to improve their political communication, namely their languages, to understand what kind of communication is relevant for a creative society

Make (dis)believe: creative spectacularization of the war on theatre stage in The Great Evil

    No full text
This article deals with the issue of production of belief on stage of the theatre. The research presented in the article aims to contribute to the discussion on how understanding tools and techniques of building fiction in theatre helps to deconstruct and understand mediatized images of reality. The case in point is a Lithuanian theatre production The Great Evil (orig. Didis blogis, 2015, director Árpád Schilling), which will be analyzed as an example of militarized conflict depicted as a spectacle. Analysis of the performance and of its reception using tools proposed by Erving Goffman allowed to find aesthetic means specific to the theatre that were used to present the spectacularization and artifice as weapons of modern warfare

An exploratory study of high-educated poverty through machine learning approach: a case study of East Java, Indonesia

    No full text
Purpose – the purpose of the article is to compare the importance factors for high-educated poverty modeling in the four cultural regions of East Java.  Research methodology – using data from the Indonesian National Survey, this study employs Random Forest (RF), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithms as classification methods in machine learning.  Findings – the analysis results show that all agorithms has high accuracy with XGboost as the best performing model. The number of household members and the use of internet technology are among the most important variables affecting high-educated poverty in each cultural region in East Java.  Research limitations – the research was exclusively carried out in East Java, Indonesia, potentially restricting its applicability to other geographical areas or nations. Additionally, it relied on cross-sectional data, implying that a causal relationship between the independent and dependent variables cannot be inferred.  Practical implications – based on the results of this analysis, it is recommended that the government and related parties focus more on improving access to education and the internet in cultural areas in East Java.  Originality/Value – this study addresses a significant knowledge gap by exploring regional variations in the factors affecting high-educated poverty, emphasizing the importance of tailored strategies for each cultural region in East Java.&nbsp

The dark side of strengthening tax enforcement

    No full text
Using the staggered adoption of China’s province-level Tax Administration Information System (TAIS) as an exogenous shock, we show that firms compromise employee workplace safety in response to strengthened tax enforcement driven by advances in tax collection technology. This effect is more pronounced in firms with significant prior tax avoidance, those under greater earnings pressure, and those where employees have limited bargaining power. Further analyses reveal that firms reduce employee workplace safety by cutting safety-related investments and increasing employee workloads. Collectively, our study highlights an unintended consequence of intensified tax enforcement on workplace safety

The effect of colour on students\u27 learning experience and creativity in design schools

    No full text
Research indicates that colours used in learning environments can influence student performance in terms of creativity. However, the impact of different shades of classroom walls affect students’ learning experience regarding creativity and willingness in a design school has not been explored in past research. This study aims to analyse the effects of various colours on students’ creativity in a design school based on hue, chroma, and value attributes. The colour of the walls has a unique effect on how successfully college students perform in the classroom. This study built six virtual classrooms with red, blue, and green walls, each with two distinct values and chroma, to determine a good wall colour to encourage creativity. College students’ perceptions were also gathered at the same time. According to the subjective survey, the colours green-yellow (105, 131, 130) and blue-green (48, 132, 154) on the walls had a mildly positive effect on the students. In contrast, green-yellow (114, 127, 82) and blue-green (37, 150, 190) positively impacted the student’s ability to focus and desire to work. Red (196, 88, 88) and red (231, 49, 69) had a negative effect on the students. These findings highlight the potential of carefully chosen colours to enhance the learning environment and improve student outcomes in design schools

The housing price dynamics and macroeconomic factors: Evidence of Taiwan housing market

    No full text
The housing price in Taiwan has seen a sharp increase since 2020 after a long period of stability from 2011 to 2019. To provide a more granular analysis on this substantial rise of the housing prices since 2020 in Taiwan, we applied the hedonic pricing model to analyze the completed and presale residential housing across four types of houses: luxury, first-class, second-class and suite. By incorporating relevant macroeconomic variables from 2014 to 2022, we try to capture the demand of homebuyers across the three biggest cities in Taiwan. In the completed housing market, we find that the suite prices in Taipei and Taichung cities are more significantly affected by Taiwan’s continuing economic growth, whereas the suite prices in Kaohsiung city are hindered by its historically stagnant employment market. Notably, suite prices in Kaohsiung display greater sensitivity to construction cost changes and broader economic cycles compared to the suite prices in Taipei and Taichung. These findings highlight the unique dynamics of real estate markets in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, providing valuable insights for housing investors, prospective homebuyers in different regions and policymakers in their decision making

Double trouble: Time-varying connectedness between stock and housing markets

    No full text
Joint new records in the stock and housing markets are now gradually becoming a focal point of controversy in Taiwan. Based on the local heterogeneity of real estate assets, this study proposes setting up a two-market transmission mechanism between the stock and city-level housing markets to fully reply to this question. The estimation results using the Diebold-Yilmaz spillover method offer some critical information: the fact that the overheated housing market is precisely caused by the Taiwan stock market, which serves as evidence of the wealth effect. As far as the housing network is concerned, it is interesting to note that housing prices in Taipei as the source city spill out from near to far: New Taipei, Taichung and ultimately Kaohsiung. All these things make it clear that the authorities pay special attention to the status of the stock market as well as to inter-city differences in terms of housing spillovers

    No full text
This study explores the integration of financial and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in the evaluation of investment funds within the energy equity sector, considering both short and long-term investor perspectives. Based on the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), a multi-criteria decision model, this analysis includes scenarios tailored to investors prioritizing financial returns and those focused on sustainability. The findings reveal that investors’ subjective preferences influence fund rankings, highlighting the need for adaptive classification systems. Finally, a customizable investment tool aligned with diverse investor priorities is proposed
