    Art, Play, and Neuroplasticity: Advancing Dementia Care Through Art-Enriched Environments

    Dementia represents a global public health crisis, characterized not only by progressive memory loss but by a pervasive decline in cognitive flexibility, social functioning, and overall quality of life. Traditional therapeutic modalities, often limited to pharmacological management and cognitive training, have yielded only modest gains in symptom mitigation and patient well-being. Recent advances in neuroscience have illuminated the brain‘s capacity for neuroplasticity—its inherent ability to adapt, reorganize, and form new neural connections even in advanced age and the presence of neurodegenerative conditions. This emerging understanding invites a critical re-evaluation of dementia care strategies, highlighting the potential of non-pharmacological interventions to target underlying neural mechanisms. Within this context, art-enriched environments and playful, multisensory engagement have gained empirical support as vehicles for fostering neuroplasticity, enhancing mood, and strengthening social bonds among individuals with dementia. The need for innovative approaches is underscored by the multidimensional and progressive nature of dementia, which demands holistic interventions addressing cognitive, emotional, and social domains simultaneously. The significance of this study lies in its synthesis of interdisciplinary research from neuroscience, psychology, and the arts, proposing a comprehensive framework for integrating structured artistic and play-based activities into dementia care. Through advancing methodologies that leverage art to stimulate neuroplasticity, this research seeks not only to inform clinical practice but also to inspire further inquiry into scalable, person-centered interventions that may slow cognitive decline, improve quality of life, and transform the therapeutic landscape for dementia patients and their caregivers

    The Effect of Gibberellins on Dwarf Millet Growth

    Dwarf and semidwarf variants of agricultural plants are used to decrease lodging without decreasing crop yield. Some dwarf genotypes lack the ability to produce the growth hormone gibberellin, and others lack complete receptor pathways. Exogenous gibberellic acid (GA) was applied to four dwarf millet genotypes over the course of six weeks to determine what pathway for dwarfism each dwarf genotype was. Statistical analysis was done to analyze the relationship between GA applications and increased plant growth. It was found that all genotypes had some response to the treatment, though some were more extreme than others. Additionally, the treatment group had longer and thinner stems and leaves, and smaller panicles. Compared to the control group, these differences could cause an increase in lodging, stem breakage, and lower crop yield. Further genetic analysis could give more information on the pathway of dwarfism for each millet genotype

    Tackling Recovery: Tibial Osteotomy in a 20-Year-Old Rugby Player with One Month of Post-Surgery Setback

    Background: Tibial osteotomy is a surgical procedure commonly performed to correct lower limb malalignment in athletes. Full recovery typically takes 6-12 months, with athletes generally resuming sport-specific activities at 4-6 months. Delays in rehabilitation can result in prolonged deficits in strength, range of motion (ROM), and neuromuscular control. Case Presentation: This case study follows a 20-year-old collegiate rugby player who underwent tibial osteotomy, with rehabilitation delayed by one month. The athlete initially presented with knee stiffness, quadriceps atrophy, reduced ROM, and impaired proprioception. A multi-phase rehabilitation program was implemented as follows: •Phase 1 (Weeks 0-6): Pain management, restoring knee extension, and quadriceps activation. •Phase 2 (Weeks 6-12): Emphasized improving ROM, strength, and proprioception. •Phase 3 (Weeks 12-20): Sport-specific conditioning, functional strength, and neuromuscular control. Outcomes: By week 14, the athlete achieved full knee ROM, and quadriceps and hamstring strength reached 90% of the contralateral limb by week 18. The athlete successfully returned to full-contact rugby by 20 weeks post-surgery, without pain or functional limitations. Conclusion: This case underscores the importance of early, structured rehabilitation in overcoming delays and optimizing recovery for athletes following tibial osteotomy. Further research is needed to establish best practices for managing rehabilitation delays in high-performance athletes

    Personifying the Goddess: Contrasting Representation of the Deified Body in Feminist Art

    Goddess imagery, the representation of a female deity or a concept of divine feminine power through various forms, symbols, and narratives, has been used by artists to communicate a multitude of sentiments, from spiritual reverence to political ideology. This study probes the evolution of representations of the deified female body from the 1970s to the current era to reveal contrasts in how these icons of female power have transformed over time. The artwork of second-wave feminist and self-identified “Goddess artist” Mary Beth Edelson is examined as a foundation for second-wave Goddess sentiment. Edelson’s collage work, which incorporates figures from a variety of Western and non-Western traditions, was inspired by the research of archeologist Marija Gimbutas, whose pioneering studies on Neolithic fertility figurines and pre-literate spiritual symbology provided a basis for the Goddess spirituality aspect of the Women’s Liberation Movement. To examine what Goddess iconography looks like in its current manifestation, Edelson’s work is compared with the contemporary Goddess imagery used by Chitra Ganesh in her visual interpretation of Sultana’s Dream, a futuristic feminist utopian short story written in 1905 by prominent Bengali educator, writer, and activist Rokeya Sakhhawat Hossain. Textual references, concepts of violence and abjection, and eco-feminist sensibilities are thematically intertwined in order to gain a better understanding of the impact that these elements have had on the shifts that have taken place over the course of the past sixty years, from body-centered representations of the deified female form to person-centered representations of the deified female form

    Trustworthy Integration of AI in Online Learning: Supporting Student Agency and Inquiry through Open Pedagogy

    Open pedagogy is a transformative educational approach that fosters innovative, inclusive, and sustainable instructional practices while addressing persistent challenges such as accessibility, equity, and the affordability of educational resources. This qualitative study explores how open pedagogy can develop AI literacy skills while supporting student agency and inquiry in online graduate education. The collaborative initiative involved two cohorts of graduate students (n = 39) who co-authored openly licensed textbooks: AI-Enhanced Instructional Design (ETAD 873, 2023) and Streamlined Instructional Design with AI (ETAD 873, 2024). A multi-phase data collection approach included analysis of student-authored chapters, structured peer review processes, and open-ended focus group interviews. The resulting open textbooks demonstrate critical engagement with generative AI technologies, highlighting the value of knowledge co-creation and innovative approaches to instructional design. Findings are synthesized into practical guidelines for empowering adult learners to responsibly and creatively utilize AI as a partner in co-designing open educational resources (OER). A significant contribution of the study is the development of a framework comprising ten open pedagogy attributes that facilitate the trustworthy integration of AI, enabling deep, meaningful, and authentic learning experiences in higher education
