Diabetes Type 2 Management
Diabetes is a complex and chronic disease. Patients with diabetes may suffer complications such as microvascular and macrovascular diseases [1]. In 2018, the prevalence of diabetes was estimated to affect 34.2 million people, or 10.5% of the US population [2]. About 1 in 10 adults in Georgia has diabetes, a health condition that can be prevented with weight loss and lifestyle changes [3]. In 2018, diabetes-related emergencies accounted for 17 million emergency room visits, with 248,000 for hyperglycemia and 242,000 for hypoglycemia [4]. Benefits of Individualized Weight Loss Program in the Overweight Adult Population in Primary Care

From Sandstone to Grindstone
From Sandstone to Grindstone investigates the environment in which my father became the sort of man who would literally work himself to death to support the people he loved. While the characters are fictional, their adventures are all in some way inspired by the stories he used to tell of his childhood in West Virginia, and the protagonist, Johnny, is named after my father and embodies all of the characteristics I believe he would have had in his formative years. While there is no single definitive answer to why he worked so hard, the one theme that each story seems to come back to is that of accountability—living with the consequences of one’s actions. In each story, one or more of the characters is faced with a life-changing decision and each character deals with the emotional aftermath in a different way. Some characters respond in overtly negative ways, by behaving recklessly or even losing their grip on reality. But for Johnny, those emotions are concentrated into an irrepressible drive to do right by the people he loves, even if it means sacrificing himself
A Framework for Identifying Malware Threat Distribution on the Dark Web
The Dark Web is an ever-growing phenomenon that has not been deeply explored. It is no secret that in recent years, malware has become a powerful threat to technology users. The Dark Web is known for supporting anonymity and secure connections for private interactions. Over the years, it has become a rich environment for displaying trends, details, and indicators of emerging malware threats. Through the application of data science and open-source intelligence techniques, trends in malware distribution can be studied. In this research, we create a framework for helping identify malware threat distribution patterns. We examine this type of Dark Web activity by utilizing an automated and manual approach for collecting data on malware exchanges. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is conducted to determine which approach is more effective and efficient. Our framework for identifying current or future malware threats that are distributed on the Dark Web is refined by examining the weaknesses and strengths of each gathering approach
Relationship of Admission Practices in Radiologic Technology Programs to Attrition in Four-Year Universities
This study analyzed admission practices at four-year universities in the United States to determine whether a relationship exists between the score of an individual component of the admission practice and completion of radiologic technology programs. Attrition is a major concern for higher education as funding for higher education continues to decline. This is especially true for highly competitive programs where there are more applicants than seats available. Every Radiologic Technology program in the United States throughout the admission process tries to select the student that is most likely to succeed in their program. Understanding the relationship of the different components of the selection process and how they predict success is vital information for Radiology Technology Program Directors. This research will add knowledge for Program Directors to be able to choose the candidate who is most likely to find success in program completion. Six research questions guided this study, seeking to determine the relationship between each component of the admission process as it relates to completion of the program. Results revealed that of the five most common metrics used in determining whether or not a student was admitted to the program, grade point average was the only factor that showed a significant impact on the determination of student’s success in the program. Due to the small amount of research that was found on this topic the information obtained could be invaluable for Program Directors in choosing the candidate most likely to succeed in a radiography program
Role of Mitochondrial Outer Membrane Translocase Subunit, TOMM22, in Pancreatic Cancer Pathobiology
Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly deadly malignancy with no effective biomarkers for early diagnosis, accurate monitoring and/or surveillance. Due to the late staged diagnosis in the majority of the cases, therapeutic interventions are limited resulting in high mortality. Recent studies continue to discover the diverse roles of mitochondria in pancreatic tumorigenesis, potentiating mitochondria as attractive targets for therapeutics and biomarker development. Although mitochondria have their own genome, most mitochondrial proteins (∼99%) are nuclear-encoded and imported into mitochondria by a specialized protein import system consisting of seven machineries. Among these machineries, translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane (TOMM) machinery, comprising of various subunits serves as the gatekeeper of mitochondrial protein import for majority of the nuclear-transcribed proteins, thereby making it a crucial machinery for optimal mitochondrial functioning. Despite the knowledge about various roles mitochondria play in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) pathogenesis, the exact TOMM subunit(s) critical for PDAC progression has not been discovered yet. Furthermore, there are no studies about the role of the TOMM machinery in PDAC pathogenesis. Our study identified TOMM22 as the only TOMM subunit, which had both increased mRNA expression in PDAC and significant inverse association with patient survival by in silico analysis using TCGA and GTex datasets. We also observed remarkably elevated levels of TOMM22 protein expression in preneoplastic and neoplastic pancreatic lesions, which was associated with stage wise progression of the disease. In model HPAF cells, TOMM22 silencing resulted in decreased growth, migration, and invasion, whereas its ectopic overexpression had the opposite effect in BxPC3 cells. These phenotypic changes were associated with a marked increase in the import of nuclear-encoded (OXPHOS) associated proteins, complex I activity, mitochondrial respiration and ATP production. Furthermore, inhibition of complex I activity in TOMM22 proficient cells delimited the tumorigenic potential and ATP production of PDAC cells, thus, indicating that the tumor promoting effects of TOMM22 overexpression are due to its regulation of mitochondrial protein import and functions. Overall, TOMM22 is overexpressed in PDAC and associated with its progression, as well as plays a significant role in PDAC pathobiology through modulation of mitochondrial protein import and functions

Objectives We estimate adult age distributions from Unar 1 and Unar 2, two late Umm an-Nar (2400-2100 BCE) tombs in the modern-day Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. These collective tombseach contained hundreds of skeletons in commingled, fragmented, and variably cremated states. Previous studies placed the vast majority of this mortuary community in a generalized “adult” category, as have most analyses of similar tombs from this period. We sought to test how adult age estimation methods compare in identifying young, middle, and old age individuals in commingled assemblages.
Materials and Methods We employed Transition Analysis 3 (TA3) and traditional age estimation methods to generate adult age distributions for each tomb. We compared these distributions between tomb contexts as well as by method.
Results Unar 1 and Unar 2 had similar adult age distributions within each method, but TA3 age distributions included significantly more middle and older adult individuals than those generated by traditional methods.
Discussion These results support findings of earlier iterations of Transition Analysis in regard to sensitivity in old adult age estimation, compared to traditional methods. Our findings indicate a potential use of TA3 in reconstructing age distributions and mortality profiles in commingled skeletal assemblages. Increasing our understanding of everyday life in the distant past necessitates better understandings of adult age, and here, we illustrate how age estimation method choice significantly changes bioarchaeological interpretations of aging in Bronze Age Arabia
