Impact of Alcohol Use Disorder on Ability to Quit Smoking: A Cohort Study

    Get PDF
The study aims to investigate the relationship between alcohol use disorder (DSM-IV alcohol abuse) and ability to quit smoking at the end of treatment among adult cancer patients, who enrolled in MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Tobacco Research and Treatment Program (TRTP). The findings could lead to more effective and integrated treatment strategies and encourage clinicians to include combined pharmacological and behavioral interventions to treat dual substance use.https://openworks.mdanderson.org/stronger24/1004/thumbnail.jp

Dedicated Drained Liver Volume Measurement after Percutaneous Biliary Drain Placement: A Personalized Three-Dimensional Volumetry Model

    Get PDF
We trained an nnU-Net machine learning algorithm to auto-segment abdominal CT scans to construct a personalized three-dimensional model of liver, tumor, and biliary anatomy. As a proof-of-concept, we applied our nnU-Net model to verify liver volume drainage territory in cases of low level obstructions with a liver drainage volume of 100%.https://openworks.mdanderson.org/soar24/1013/thumbnail.jp

Technology Enabling Strategic Moves to End Cancer, 2024, close-up

    No full text
Artist: Cade Farmer Materials: Recycled computer parts, acrylic Technology underpins much of our everyday lives and much of what we do as employees to advance our mission to end cancer, just as a chess board is the foundation of the classic game of strategy. But it is the thoughtful and strategic moves that we, as people, make upon that foundation—guided by our core values—that positively impacts our patients’ lives and consistently earns us #1 rankings. This chess board incorporates recycled computer and keyboard components set in leftover acrylic that was destined for a landfill. Thirty-two handcrafted acrylic chess pieces complete the playable set.https://openworks.mdanderson.org/recycledart2024/1007/thumbnail.jp
