The Cathedral of Jaen is one of the main Spanish religious institutions that preserves orchestral repertoires of the second half of the eighteenth century. The preservation of a corpus of 45 symphonies composed by eleven European musicians —being Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) the most represented—, together with the ten written by the Kapellmeister Ramón Garay (1761-1823), confirms it. Specifically, this paper focuses on this collection of foreign origin. Through a comparative analysis of the musical sources, I address the following aspects: physical and textual characteristics of the materials containing these compositions; the internal organization of the lot; the composers represented; and, finally, the connections of some of these manuscript copies with French printed editions that served as models for them. Furthermore, by means of the critical reading of administrative documents, I identify and contextualize the ceremonial moments in which this type of repertoire could be played. All this shows that the Cathedral of Jaen actively participated in the reception of orchestral music, thus becoming part of a practice shared by numerous Catholic religious institutions during the transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth centuries
Multilingual CLIL and gender: longitudinal differences in lexical availability
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is thought to have a positive effect on learners’ content-related vocabulary. However, although CLIL has become increasingly widespread, the majority of programmes to date have been conducted through English, with other target languages being largely overlooked. There is consequently a need for comparative research across additional languages to confirm whether the advantages observed hold true only for English, or also other target languages. Furthermore, previous research has shown that female learners often outperform their male peers in vocabulary measures such as lexical availability (LA). However, as it has been suggested that CLIL has the potential to blur gender differences, there is a need to confirm whether this difference is also observed in multilingual CLIL. The present paper addresses these gaps, seeking to confirm whether CLIL learners perform better in terms of LA in English, and whether this advantage is dependent on the participants’ gender. To this effect, it uses a semantic fluency task to assess the LA of thirty-two 10th grade male and female Spanish learners enrolled simultaneously in English and French and analyses the differences that are observed across a period of one year. Findings reveal interesting gender-based differences, in particular concerning time and the interaction between time and language. In particular, female students were seen to improve to a much greater degree than male students, and greater improvement was at times observed in English than in French, but in different prompts depending on the gender at hand

Cultural Depiction in L2 and L3 EFL Learners’ Vocabulary
The connection between lexicon and culture is crucial in foreign language pedagogy (Wierzbicka 1997; Sharifian, 2009). Although some studies have previously focused on the relation between culture and vocabulary in EFL textbooks input (Canga Alonso & Cifone Ponte, 2016; Canga Alonso & Cifone Ponte, 2021), and 2nd Baccalaureate EFL Spanish students’ cultural available lexicon (Canga Alonso, 2021) to our knowledge, nothing has been published in linguistic circles regarding L2 and L3 EFL learners’ cultural available lexicon at the end of compulsory secondary education. Hence, the aim of this study was threefold: (i) to identify the number of cultural words produced by L2 and L3 adolescent EFL learners in response to two stimulus words: Food and Drink and Festivities, (ii) to explore the number and kind of words which were alike in students’ responses to both cue words, and (iii) to analyse whether the elicited words belonged to source, target or international cultures. To that end, a sample of thirty L2 and L3 10th graders were tested on their cultural lexical knowledge by means of a PdLex task using the aforementioned stimulus words. Data were collected in March/April 2024 by means of an online PdLex task which also included a background questionnaire and an English proficiency level test (OPT). Lexical units from the vocabulary output were lemmatized adopting the same criteria as in previous PdLex studies (Jiménez Catalán & Ojeda Alba, 2009; Canga Alonso, 2021). The cultural meaning of the lexical units gathered from the task was checked using the Longman’s Dictionary of English Language and Culture (2005). After being lemmatized, each file was subjected to frequency analyses by means of AntConc to obtain word frequencies. Our findings revealed that our informants produced more cultural words in response to the traditional cue word Food and Drink than to the specific cultural stimulus Festivities. All the elicited words were nouns. Finally, most of our students’ responses to the prompts surveyed referred to international culture which concurs with previous research with older learners (Canga Alonso, 2021). However, we find references to the source culture in L3 learners’ answers. In view of these results, we can conclude that 10th graders seem to produce the same kind of cultural words regardless of the nature of the cue words used to collect the data (i.e. traditional or culture specific prompts) and their background languages and cultures

¿Saqueos o incendios?
In this paper we make a reading of two insurgent practices in the context of anti-capitalist demonstrations: looting and arson. We will analyze the shadows of the official discourses of the mass media that label these actions as violent and anti-democratic. Finally, thanks to the study of situationism carried out by McKenzie Wark, we will construct a critique of today's spectacular authoritarian capitalism that silences and excludes all forms of life that do not conform to its model.
