Research Results on Creative Audiovisual Writing among Erasmus and Exchange Students: from Malaysia to Italy
The research project Fortalece 2021/04 has included research on creative audiovisual writing. The source materials have been the creative processes carried out to make several short films within the framework of the university subject entitled ‘Literary and Audiovisual Communication in the Anglo-Saxon World’. This presentation focuses on the participation of Erasmus and Exchange students in four films: Finding Ana, shot in 2022, Solidarity Hourglass, shot in 2023 and 2024, Come On In Now, shot in 2024 (with some parts yet to beshot), and Your Trial, Your Honour, shot in 2025. Finding Ana had two students from the Republic of Korea and another one from Malaysiawho scripted, directed and edited the film.Solidarity Hourglass is practically an Italian film: four of the five students involved wereItalian and the fifth one, who eventually directed the film, was both of Spanish and Colombian nationality, having had a grandfather who was Italian too. Come On In Now only had a Hungarian Erasmus student, but she was the film director. Your Trial, Your Honour’s Erasmus contribution came from an Irish student who enrolled very late in the subject, but he eventually got the leading role in the film and edited it. The creative process followed in each film has been analysed in case studies, with the inclusion since 2024 of an intro and outro survey on the benefits of the experience for each student. The opening survey has been modified to preview problems any student may have with some topics. A future research line will be to introduce qualitative interviews with the creators

Abstract: In this paper we will study the philosophical potential of René Thom's theory of catastrophes. From the field of mathematics in which it arises, this theory has generated a vast literature about diverse applications in other branches far from mathematics. The aim is to explain the main points of the theory in accordance with the ontological conception on which it rests, an ontology of becoming, immanent and relational. We will present the theory of catastrophes as an analytical and critical tool, offering some examples of application
