With the desire for efficiency and effectiveness in the academe profession producing research outputs, universities must highlight faculty members' motivation towards research-related efforts. The study aims to identify the elements influencing the college of nursing faculty members' motivation for research production, presentation, and publication. The descriptive quantitative research design was used for the investigation using a snowball sampling technique for data collection. The study identified probationary, regular, and part-time faculty members in the College of Nursing. Simple frequency and percentage, and weighted mean were used to treat the collected data. This study showed that the teacher's access to a source of income, university-sponsored research tutorials, seminars, and workshops, and the attraction of organizational grant and reward systems are essential in motivating the teacher. The findings further revealed that peer influence and organizational support systems are vital motivating factors to boost teachers' self-confidence in research presentations and publications. The study concluded that the extensiveness of faculty motivation's elements resides in improving their incentive to generate, present, and publish research articles. The study further concludes that faculty desire to produce, present, and publish research outputs are influenced and affected by elements including but not limited to financial considerations, administrative assistance, peer influence, and organizational support

CORRELATION OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND LICENSURE EXAMINATION OF UCLM NURSE GRADUATES

    Get PDF
The passing rate in the national licensure examination for nurses is considered a key indicator of the quality of the nursing program. Professional licensure or occupational licensing system grants permission to the person possessing the license to practice the profession and ensures that the licensee has some minimal level of competence to perform acts allowed by the license. The graduates’ success rate in the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) is on the creation of success not only for the student but also for the nursing program. Currently, in UCLM-CN, correlational studies regarding academic performance and board exam results are non-existent. The PNLE serves as an evaluation of the nursing program being offered but there is no way of evaluating it because there are still no findings. Hence, with the cited background this research was created. The present study utilized the descriptive-correlational method. Data were analyzed using statistical methods like weighted mean, standard deviation, inferential statistics (Pearson R), and multiple linear regression. The sample size of this study consisted of 87 takers/graduates from a period of 4 years (2018-2021) who took the Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE). The majority of the variables exhibited moderate correlation while only the subjects CHN and NP1 showed a weak correlation. Based on the p-value to test for a significant relationship, most of the results yielded less than the alpha value of 0.05, therefore the null hypothesis is rejected. This would mean that the higher the grades in major subjects, the higher the chances of passing the board exam. The use of students’ performance in nursing school may be used as predictors in the PNLE. This may assist nursing schools in the development of admission and retention policies in the nursing program. Because the majority of the board exam scores fall under the low category, there is a need to modify the curriculum or a more intense review enhancement program to improve the performance of nursing graduates. This may assist the faculty members and reviewers in identifying concepts to be emphasized. The findings of this study may be obtained to aid in a more holistic approach to understanding PNLE performance. This study, however, would recommend an in-depth analysis of the weaknesses of those students who failed the licensure examination to have a better grasp on the strengths and weaknesses during the board exams

A BEND IN THE RIVER AS A POSTCOLONIAL TEXT

    Get PDF
The present paper which intends to explore and analyse the postcolonial situation as depicted in A Bend in the River, defines Naipaul’s central area of interest in all his later novels, that is, the review and scrutiny of the situation prevailing in the third world countries. Set in a newly independent African nation, the story of the novel comes to the readers through the consciousness of Salim, whose narrative takes the readers to a river town located deep within the nation and makes them assess the situation through his perspective. The African country which becomes the setting of the novel remains unchristened and unnamed, probably, because Naipaul wishes to present a representative tale of violence and bloodshed, decay and destruction, chaos and disorder, turmoil and upheavals taking place in the third world countries in general and African countries in particular. Written in 1979, A Bend in the River unfolds before the readers as a magnificent work of art, a brilliant manifestation of the author’s perceptive mind, his keen insight and his unusual and unparalleled ability to perceive and discern the truth behind the historical upheavals and social breakdown in post- imperial states. Naipaul shows with terrifying clarity, the extent to which the situation in the postcolonial societies has deteriorated and exposes the forces which are responsible decay and decline in the postcolonial situation. The picture which emerges before the readers is that of a world falling apart, torn into pieces by the crude politics, exploitative tendencies and the selfish motives of the people who have stepped into the ‘shoes of the departing colonial masters’. The present paper is a humble attempt to make an honest postcolonial reading and deliver critical insights of such a seminal text

A POST COLONIAL STUDY OF CULTURE AND GENDER IN SIDHWA’S THE PAKISTANI BRIDE

    Get PDF
There has been a geographical explosion of literature in English. After the Partition and decolonisation of the Indian Subcontinent in 1947, the writings in English split up into distinct national canons. Writings in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have diverged from each other because of their different cultures and identities. Redistribution of the sub- continent into sovereign postcolonial states had its effect on literary cultures, giving place to national traditions, geography and history, multi- lingual and multi- ethnic socio- economic order, politics and aesthetics. The writers in postcolonial era focus on ethnic identities rather than racial divisions, male dominance rather than European colonisation. Bapsi Sidhwa is the author of four internationally acclaimed novels, and is one of the most prominent English fiction writers of Pakistan. The Pakistani Bride shows how female emotional demands are crushed by violence. Despite Zaitoon’s predicament Sidhwa has shown that through struggle, there is hope even for women to see the dawn. The Pakistani Bride is a woman’s lyric cry in prose against the existential fate and societal abuse. Sidhwa has fashioned complex metaphors to orchestrate the multiple agonies of a woman, a successful portrayal of pain and suffering in the character of Zaitoon. She has written dramatically of a particular culture, marriage, loyalty, honour and their conflict with old ways. The present paper is a humble attempt to touch upon the cultural and gender issues in this novel from a post-colonial perspective
