Asymptotics of Ensemble Filters for Linear Stochastic Systems with Poisson-Sampled Observations

    No full text
For continuous-time linear stochastic dynamical systems driven by Wiener processes, we consider the problem of designing ensemble filters when the observation process is randomly time-sampled. For the design of ensemble filters, we consider a class of continuous-discrete diffusion processes with additive Gaussian noise and several design parameters, which are used to describe the evolution of the individual particles in the ensemble. These particles are coupled through the empirical covariance, and in some cases empirical mean as well, and require less computations for implementation than the optimal ones based on solving Riccati differential equations. For different choices of parameters, we can recover some common design techniques from the literature. Our focus in this work is on analyzing the asymptotic (in time) performance of these filters for sufficiently large number of particles. Using appropriate analysis tools, we derive differential equations to describe the expectation of empirical mean and sample covariance of the ensemble filters with respect to the sampling process and noise. The solutions of these differential equations (describing empirical moments) are shown to converge asymptotically to the mean and covariance of the optimal filter under certain conditions on the mean sampling rate of the observation process, and as the number of particles tends to infinity

Résumé de l'article « Modeling and Updating Uncertain Evidence within Belief Function Theory »

    No full text
National audienceIn [9], we propose a framework to model uncertain evidence and non-maximal credal sets, making evidential and credal interpretations more expressive yet still within Belief Function Theory. Dempster’s, geometric and Bayesian conditioning are extended. Notably, the latter is “fixed” to capture accurately the Bayesian update, with commutativity and linear complexity. It is also provided a clear evidential interpretation; and its dilation effect is made clear.

Housing in a Roman Provincial Capital. The Case of Narbo

    No full text
International audienceThis article provides an overview of the housing and décor in the Roman city of Narbo. The first Roman colony outside Italy (118 BC), Narbo became the capital of the province of Transalpine Gaul and then Gallia Narbonensis. This city was a major administrative, political and religious center. However, little is known about its Roman remains. This contribution therefore partly fills that gap, offering an analysis of the housing at Narbo based on the archaeological excavations of recent decades. Domestic architecture and its changes are presented, as well as the evolution of ornamental decoration (painting, mosaics, opus sectile). The question of the organization of living space is also analyzed, in order to gain a better understanding of the ‘ways of living’ in a major provincial capital

    No full text

Robust Dynamic Periodic Event-triggered Control of Lur’e Systems

    No full text
This paper addresses the robust stabilization of continuous-time uncertain Lur'e systems with dynamic periodic event-triggered control. Based on Lyapunov arguments and the looped-functional technique, we propose constructive conditions expressed in the form of linear matrix inequalities to globally stabilize the origin of the closed-loop system. These conditions are cast into a convex optimization problem to systematically co-design the control law gains and the triggering parameters aiming at reducing the number of control updates. A numerical example illustrates the proposed method.</div

    No full text
International audienceIt comes as no surprise that knowledge-intensive industries occupy a central place in Western economies. Indeed, policymakers in the US and the EU have identified knowledge as a key driver of economic growth. Perhaps more unexpectedly given its insignificant size and its status as a developing country, the tiny island state of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean has expressed a similar interest in the “knowledge economy”. Colonised by the Dutch in the 17th century, the French in the 18th century and the British in the 19th century, the island became independent in 1968. It is celebrated today as an example of economic success with a commendable performance in human development. Yet in 1960, British economist and Nobel Prize winner James Meade expressed his great concern for what he saw as the bleak future of an underdeveloped and overpopulated island. In 1971, a few years after independence, Trinidadian-born writer and Nobel Prize winner V.S Naipaul visited the island and subsequently described it as an “overcrowded barracoon”. The almost miraculous transformation of Mauritius from a third world country to “the star and key of the Indian Ocean” as stated by the country’s motto, has been widely documented. This paper focuses specifically on the years leading to independence until the end of the 20th century. It shows that as the EU was spelling out its strategy to remain competitive by rooting growth in knowledge-based industries, Mauritius was also issuing statements making it be known that it intended to embark on a profound transformation of its economy to turn it into a knowledge-driven one. While it might not be wholly surprising that Mauritian authorities wanted to adopt an ambitious program to maintain the island’s development trajectory, it is striking that knowledge was at the core of this program and this was being done at about the same time as the EU was spelling out the Lisbon strategy that put knowledge at the forefront of its plans for competitiveness. The paper investigates how such intentions came to be and reviews the part played by different stakeholders.

    No full text
This thesis explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on hotel management, focusing on the transformation of managerial roles, staff practices, and operational efficiency. Tracing AI’s evolution from early theories to current applications, the study adopts a qualitative, exploratory approach. The research will be based on semi-structured interviews with managers in Asia and Europe. The thematic analysis reveals a shift from routine supervision to strategic decision-making, along with challenges such as resistance to change, ethical concerns, and cultural influences. Preliminary findings serve as the basis for refined hypotheses to be tested in a subsequent action research phase. The ultimate aim is to offer practical recommendations that balance technological innovation with human-centered management to ensure sustainable growth in the hospitality sector.
