Territoires multiples. J.-C. (TeMAES I)

    No full text
International audienceThis volume provides an overview of the principles and issues at stake in the TeMAES project (Multiple territories: agency and socio-economic environment). The study of ancient territories is structured around two aspects, one geographical and the other social. These are the main lines of research in order to outline the evolution of urban space and the topography of a city or a network of cities, and to interpret the relations with the territory and the social landscape. The proposed research draws on the experience of a firmly intra- and interdisciplinary approach, involving different types of sources to address the political, legal and economic dimensions of a territory and its interconnections.

Polarization-Shift Backscatter Identification for SWIPT-Based Battery-Free Sensor Nodes

    No full text
International audienceBattery-Free Sensor Nodes (BFSNs) used in Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) systems often rely on lightweight communication protocols with minimal security overhead due to strict energy constraints. As a result, conventional protocoldependent security mechanisms cannot be employed, leaving BFSNs vulnerable to replay, spoofing, and other security threats. This paper explores a protocol-independent security mechanism that enhances BFSN security by exploiting the power wave for controlled backscattering. The method introduces a Manchester-encoded digital private key generated by the BFSN's low-power microcontroller and backscattered through a polarization-shifting module enabled by a fail-safe RF switch, thereby avoiding the need for a dedicated backscattering rectifier. A LoRaWAN-based BFSN integrating this add-on module was implemented to experimentally validate the approach. Results show successful extraction of the backscattered key with minimal energy overhead (approximately 95 µJ for a 3 ms identification sequence), while the original high-efficiency RF rectifier used for harvesting remains unmodified. The orthogonal polarization between the incoming and backscattered waves additionally reduces clutter and cross-jamming effects. These findings demonstrate that secure identification can be seamlessly incorporated into existing BFSNs without altering their core architecture, offering an easy-to-integrate and energy-efficient solution for improving security in SWIPT-based sensing systems

    No full text
National audienceHyperspectral imaging simultaneously captures the spatial and spectral information of ascene, with each pixel containing a spectrum of several dozen to several hundred bands. Thisspectral richness enables a wide range of applications, many of which rely on spectral classificationto distinguish and identify materials.Traditionally, hyperspectral data are acquired by scanning the cube, a process that requireslong acquisition times and generates large data volumes. To address these limitations, compressedsnapshot imagers have been developed, such as the DD-CASSI (Dual-Disperser Coded ApertureSnapshot Spectral Imager), which relies on a coded mask. Instead of producing a full hyperspectralcube, these instruments yield coded measurements in which each pixel contains a linearcombination of spectral components determined by the mask and the system’s dispersion. Thestandard approach is to first reconstruct the complete cube and then apply classification methods, but this reconstruction is computationally demanding and may introduce artifacts. An alternative, explored in this thesis, is to operate directly on the coded data without a reconstruction step. Thus, this thesis proposes an unsupervised classification method based on coded data. The proposed method relies on the exploitation of spectro-spatial correlations throughthe Separability Assumption (SA) in homogeneous regions, introduced by Ardi (2020) in thecontext of hyperspectral reconstruction. More precisely, a hyperspectral image is considered tobe decomposable into homogeneous regions, each characterized by a unique reference spectrumweighted by local intensity variations. In this thesis, this assumption is regarded as a simplemodel of intraclass spectral variability. To locally evaluate this assumption, statistical tests areapplied to candidate regions. For this purpose, we assume that photon noise, classically modeledby a Poisson distribution, can be approximated by Gaussian noise, and we make use of gaussianitytests.Based on the Separability Assumption and gaussianity tests, I proposed an iterative unsupervisedclassification algorithm for coded data, named CHOUCROUTE5, which operates in threesteps : detection, growth, and fusion of homogeneous regions belonging to the same class. The proposed algorithm was evaluated on both synthetic and realistic hyperspectral scenes. On synthetic data, it provides coherent classifications that closely match the ground truth. Onrealistic data, however, evaluation is more challenging due to the limited reliability of the availableannotations, which do not always capture the spectral complexity of the scenes and may bias thecomparison. The study also includes an analysis of the sensitivity of the classification results tothe algorithm’s parameter choices. These experiments highlight that uncertainties in the groundtruth make the evaluation of classification methods particularly delicate.L’imagerie hyperspectrale enregistre simultanément l’information spatiale et spectraled’une scène, chaque pixel étant décrit par un spectre de quelques dizaines à quelquescentaines de bandes.

    No full text
International audienceThis file proposes to highlight the common characteristics of the Latin American left, but also their specificities, in time and space, based on generalized approaches synthesizing continental issues and field surveys offering us to understand Latin American realities "from below". Thus, on the one hand, we propose in this file general panoramas concerning internationalist solidarities in the wake of the Cuban revolution and the relationship of the Argentine left to Peronism, the ideal government typical of national regimes-popular, so specifically Latin American. On the other hand, case studies concerning tensions between Coratism and indigenous organizations in Ecuador, the relationship between lefties and neighborhood movements in Venezuela or even the precocity and limits of feminism in Popular Unity’s Chile will complete our discussion.

Age differences in motivation drive performance during the sustained attention to response task

    No full text
International audienceYoung and older adults prioritise speed and accuracy differently during sustained attention tasks. While older adults generally show a preference of accuracy over speed, this is not always the case. The underlying factor behind this inconsistency may be motivational differences, with older participants compensating for a speed disadvantage with increased intrinsic motivation to perform well. We investigated this in a pre-registered study, using the Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) in young (n = 25, mean age = 19) and older adults (n = 25, mean age = 69.5).We matched participant accuracy by titrating response window length. Both groups achieved similar performance and strategy during the titration, enabling a comparison without confounds resulting from differences in default age-specific strategies. All participants were then given monetary incentives to perform better in terms of accuracy. Both groups responded with enhanced accuracy, but the young participants improved much more, outperforming older adults, and reversing the speed-accuracy strategies that are typically observed. In addition, older participants reported higher baseline levels of motivation alongside a reduced motivation to alter performance for money. So, while the older participants could match young participant performance in titration due to their higher baseline motivational levels, the young participants improved much more than older adults in response to the monetary incentive. From these findings we argue that older adults are intrinsically motivated to do well on tasks whereas younger age groups perform optimally only after incentivisation. MotivationResearchers have already stated an effect of age on strategy choice as underpinned by differences in levels of baseline motivation. Definitions of motivation may vary, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.</div

Solving the Agile Earth Observation Satellite Scheduling Problem with CP and Local Search

    No full text
International audienceThe increasing hunger for remote sensing data fuels a boom in satellite imagery, leading to larger agile Earth observation satellite (AEOS) constellations. Therefore, instances of the AEOS scheduling problem (AEOSSP) has become harder to solve. As most existing approaches to solve AEOSSP are designed for a single spacecraft or smaller constellations in mind, they are not tailored to the need of our industrial partner that is about to launch a constellation of 20 AEOSs. Hence, we designed a local search solver able to schedule observations and downloads at such a scale. It relies on solving a series of sub-problems as travelling salesman problem with time windows (TSPTW), first greedily, then using a CP-SAT exact solver in order to find a solution when the greedy insertion fails. Lastly, it schedules downloads and enforces memory constraints with greedy algorithms. Experiments were carried out on instances from the literature as well as generated instances from a simulator we designed. Our experiments show that using CP to solve the sub-problem significantly improve the solutions, and overall our method is slightly better than state-of-the-art approaches
