The threshold phenomena for propagation in fractional Laplacian diffusion equations

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, we investigate the threshold phenomenon between extinction and propagation in fractional Laplacian diffusion equations for a class of compactly supported initial data. We provide the first quantitative estimates on the threshold when the reaction nonlinearity is of bistable or ignition type. We mainly use estimates on the fundamental solutions of fractional Laplacian operators together with some accurate upper and lower solutions to show that the solution either propagates or goes extinct

GT-ICP: a General Temporal ICP algorithm for simultaneous frame-to-frame registration and motion compensation

    No full text
International audienceRigid registration of 3D point clouds is a fundamental process in computer graphics, computer vision and robotics. A widely used approach for registering two point clouds is the Iterative Corresponding Point (ICP). Over the years, ICP algorithms have been intensively studied for improving their robustness and versatility. With modern acquisition devices, it becomes common to acquire geometries with fast motion while most of the acquisition systems rely on a rolling shutters technology: within a frame, acquisition is performed at different times for each location. In case of fast motion or relatively-low frame-rate, this leads to motion distortions that are not directly handled by classical frame-to-frame registration. Our contribution is a new formulation of the ICP, denoted General Temporal Iterative Closest Point (GT-ICP), that simultaneously solves the registration and the motion compensation problems between successive LiDAR frames. In contrast to previous work, we explicitly take into account the acquisition time of each individual point in the ICP frame-to-frame optimisation. We demonstrate and compare our reformulation on several variants of the ICP algorithm and motion distortion correction techniques, applied both on simulated and acquired data

Warm-Starting Collision-Free Model Predictive Control With Object-Centric Diffusion

    No full text
International audienceActing in cluttered environments requires predicting and avoiding collisions while still achieving precise control. Conventional optimization-based controllers can enforce physical constraints, but they struggle to produce feasible solutions quickly when many obstacles are present. Diffusion models can generate diverse trajectories around obstacles, yet prior approaches lacked a general and efficient way to condition them on scene structure. In this paper, we show that combining diffusion-based warmstarting conditioned with a latent object-centric representation of the scene and with a collision-aware model predictive controller (MPC) yields reliable and efficient motion generation under strict time limits. Our approach conditions a diffusion transformer on the system state, task, and surroundings, using an objectcentric slot attention mechanism to provide a compact obstacle representation suitable for control. The sampled trajectories are refined by an optimal control problem that enforces rigidbody dynamics and signed-distance collision constraints, producing feasible motions in real time. On benchmark tasks, this hybrid method achieved markedly higher success rates and lower latency than sampling-based planners or either component alone. Real-robot experiments with a torque-controlled Panda confirm reliable and safe execution with MPC. An open-source implementation is provided here

    No full text

    No full text

    No full text
International audienceThis article discusses the role of the Revue des politiques sociales et familiales in the translation, importation and definition of the notion of non-take-up. It offers a retrospective analysis of the emergence of a research field dedicated to access to social benefits and non-take-up, embedded in the social, institutional and political concerns of the fight against poverty. While the concept of non-take-up is more audible and acceptable to the government than the access to social benefits approach, its political appropriation often remains restrictive. The political uses of non-take-up tend to reframe the problem and the solution in terms of individual responsibility, focusing on unawareness and recipient behaviour (not taking up), rather than on a structural approach to public action that questions political and institutional responsibilities regarding the relevance of regulations and the conditions of access (not providing access).Cet article revient sur le rôle de la Revue des politiques sociales et familiales (RPSF) dans la traduction, l’importation et la définition de la notion de non-recours.

Convolutions Predictable Offloading to an Accelerator: Formalization and Optimization

    No full text
International audienceConvolutional neural networks (CNNs) require a large number of multiply-accumulate (MAC) operations. To meet real-time constraints, they often need to be executed on specialized accelerators composed of an on-chip memory and a processing unit. However, the on-chip memory is often insufficient to store all the data required to compute a CNN layer. Thus, the computation must be performed in several offloading steps. We formalise such sequences of steps and apply our formalism to a state of the art decomposition of convolutions. In order to find optimal strategies in terms of duration, we encode the problem with a set of constraints. A Python-based simulator allows to analyse in-depth computed strategies

Mapping life's disparity and evolutionary constraints in a geometric complexity space

    No full text
International audienceThe Earth's biosphere exhibits a notable diversity of forms, yet the full morphological extent and limits of life remain largely unexplored. Here, we develop a geometric complexity space for comparing all known unicellular and multicellular phyla using fractal descriptors of the density and heterogeneity of body mass and structure. By applying this approach to a large set of extant biological shapes, we show that life exploits a tiny portion of structural possibilities, clustering around linear, rounded, and densely structured forms, while consistently avoiding complex heteromorphic ones. We show that this restriction results from deep physical, metabolic, and developmental limitations, shaped over geological time by the evolution of body size and ecological lifestyle. Our findings provide a global, quantitative perspective on the long-standing interplay between chance and necessity in evolution, with implications for the expected forms of life beyond Earth

Set-point regulation of perturbed switched affine systems based on a nonlinear observer with application to DC-DC converters

    No full text
We address robust set-point output regulation of continuous switched affine systems in the presence of constant unknown perturbations. We first prove the existence of at least one perturbed equilibrium point, which is well defined thanks to a rank condition pertaining the unperturbed (nominal) equilibrium. Then we introduce two nonlinear observers for estimating the perturbation and an optimality-based selection of the perturbed equilibrium. The switching stabilizer, driven by such estimates, is then proven to induce local asymptotic stability of the optimal equilibrium, via the application of reduction theorems. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through application to a non-inverting buck-boost converter, simulated with the electrical engineering software PLECS integrated in MATLAB/Simulink
