XCId : An SSI-Based Cross-Cloud Identity Wallet
International audienceCross-cloud is an emerging strategy to run applications seamlessly across different Cloud Service Providers. Even though there are significant benefits such as scalability, compliance or vendor lock-in avoidance, aspects of security interoperability — particularly in the realm of identity management — remains a significant challenge. In this article, we present a novel solution, called XCId, that addresses identity interoperability in cross-cloud environment without relying on intermediaries or third-party brokers. Our approach follows the Self-Sovereign Identity principles to ensure a user-centric identity solution and is built upon existing and widely deployed protocols, allowing interoperability with current Cloud Service Providers technologies. We implemented the framework and tested it on Amazon Web Service, Google Cloud platform and OwnCloud
Positive Irrational Beliefs Scale: French validation of a measure of positive illusions on a nonclinical sample and on a sample having experienced a traumatic event
International audienceThe measurement of positive illusions by inferential assessment has been criticized, questioning their role in adaptation. The Positive Irrational Beliefs Scale (PIBS; Collard et al., 2016) has been developed to provide operational definitions for positive illusions but has not been translated into French. The objective of this work is to test the validity of the French version of the PIBS in the general population and in a subpopulation who experienced a traumatic event (TE). To this end, this study evaluated: (a) factorial structure; (b) internal consistency and validity; and (c) correlations with PIBS, sociodemographic/clinical variables, and posttraumatic growth. The PIBS was administered to two nonclinical subsamples (n = 359 and n = 358, Study 1) and a TE experienced sample (n = 433, Study 2). Exploratory factor analysis in Study 1 showed a 12-item structure, with four factors: self-enhancing beliefs, beliefs rejecting imperfection, irrational beliefs of control, and irrationally optimistic beliefs. Confirmatory analyses in Studies 1 and 2 retained a bifactorial structure with four factors and one common factor. One item was replaced in Study 2. This model also corroborated data from Study 1. The PIBS demonstrated satisfactory psychometric qualities and associations with perceived posttraumatic growth, sociodemographic and clinical variables. The French version differs moderately from the original version in the number of items and model type. Results from the current study are consistent with the hypothesis that the PIBS is a valid context-independent scale for measuring positive illusions in the general population and those who experienced a TE
Thinking of the agroecological transition as a psychosocial transition : Example of livestock farmers in Occitania
Environmental, climatic and societal issues, which raise issues about the sustainability of livestock farming systems, are calling on livestock farmers to commit to the agroecological transition. This, along with farmers' desire to change their working conditions, is profoundly altering practices and the profession, including the identity and meaning dimensions of the job. In this context of agroecological transition, which we apprehend as a psychosocial transition, our thesis aims to understand breeders' commitment to agroecological practices. We apprehend commitment not as a linear process, but as a multidimensional, subjective and developmental process. We have articulated the model of plural and active socialization and the Clinic of Activity , in order to make a clinical analysis of the professional activities of breeders, while taking into account the plurality of their spheres of life.This empirical research relied on a three-phase data collection process: two in situ clinical interviews on 13 farms (25 breeders) in the Occitanie region and a collective interview (with 9 breeders) grounded on the analysing of professional practice. Lexicometric analysis of the clinical interviews enabled us to identify the psychosocial dimensions at work in different commitment dynamics. The pragmatic analysis of the collective interview enabled us to observe the building of the commitment dynamics within a collective of peers.The results show that the complexity of the breeding activity calls for an analysis that takes into account the psychosocial dimensions of the activity's reality. In addition, we show that the dynamics of commitment are built at the crossroads of individual and collective intersignification processes enabling self-development and the development of the profession.A perspective of this thesis could be to explore more deeply the process of collective intersignification, in order to draw up recommendations for developing support for groups of different stakeholders concerned by the agroecological transition, then enabling them to build collectively and individually the meaning they wish to give to this transition
Acoustic markers of negative arousal in lambs: evidence from behavioural and eye thermal profiles
While vocalizations are widely recognized as indicators of emotional arousal across animal species, concurrent validation of changes in vocalisation structure using physiological and behavioural measures recorded simultaneously is still lacking in numerous species including sheep. Here, we examined the vocal expression of negative emotional arousal in sheep using both stress-related behaviours to quantify bodily activation and eye temperature measured via infrared thermography, as non-invasive indicators of arousal. To this aim, twenty lambs underwent a short-term isolation test with two phases, aimed at eliciting different levels of arousal in response to separation from conspecifics: partial isolation, where lambs maintained visual, acoustic and tactile contact with conspecifics through a fence, and full isolation, with complete separation. During full isolation, lambs exhibited increased bodily activation—spending more time running, jumping, and changing state behaviours—and produced more open-mouthed bleats (321 vs 27) than in partial isolation, validating higher arousal. Eye temperature also increased from partial to full isolation (however only in small lambs compared to large ones). Calls emitted in full isolation were characterised by higher frequencies, noisiness (higher chaos) and lower durations. When combining behavioural and physiological assessment of arousal and test they impact on spectro-temporal structure of vocalizations, we found that bodily activation, but not eye peak temperature, impacted the frequency distribution and noisiness of the calls. Call duration increased with eye temperature, but only in lambs exhibiting a bodily activation high enough and the mean of the second formant increased with eye temperature in smaller, but not in larger, lambs. Hence, lamb vocalizations indicate arousal and are correlated with bodily activation, while co-variations with physiological measures depended on behaviour and individual traits
What's inside your industrial black-box component? Let's analyze some micro-architectural signals!
International audienceWith the growing complexity of systems, design phases increasingly rely on the interaction of several industrial actors. This makes it more difficult, especially at the hardware level, for an end-user to know what is being inserted at each stage, even for very specific needs, and can be a blocking point for revising the system later on.In terms of security, using only a high level of abstraction alone does not protect against several attacks or malicious acts that exploit the target’s low-level characteristics. Since only third parties know the implementation details of the component for which they are responsible, there is an increasing need for direct monitoring of signals coming from the micro-architecture to cover attacks targeting this layer. Suppliers may intentionally or not produce a component that is vulnerable to attacks against the micro-architecture. To detect attacks at this level, we propose a mechanism to extract a large set of signals and select to most relevant ones to study the behavior of industrial-type systems. These systems often have small processors with lightweight operating systems, sometimes with real-time constraints.To simulate various such systems, we have built an FPGA platform for continuous monitoring of the micro-architectural signals, based on LiteX, with different choices of parameters such as CPUs and peripherals. Our work extends the MATANA framework, which enables run-time detection of Cache Side-Channel and Return-Oriented Programming attacks. We are also extending the framework to support hardware trojans targeting industrial systems, with automated insertion tools. Sex Differences in Multimodal Emotional Processing of Moral Transgressions
International audienceThe present research examines the impact of gender on the perception of moral emotions—specifically anger and disgust—expressed by male and female through facial expressions, vocalizations, and integrated modalities in reactions to autonomy violations. Two hundred eighty-four male and female decoders rated the appropriateness of encoders expressing anger, disgust, or neutrality in response to moral violations. Results revealed different response profiles depending on the encoder–decoder combination. Female observers—whether paired with female or male expressors—consistently rated anger as more appropriate than other emotions when facing violations of autonomy. In contrast, male observers, especially when paired with female expressors, did not exhibit a clear preference between rating anger and disgust as appropriate, although they did show a clear preference for anger over sadness. Additionally, combining facial and vocal cues did not significantly change moral judgments compared to single-modality presentations, contrary to expectations. These results clearly show that gender significantly influences how moral emotions are perceived and evaluated, underscoring the need to incorporate gender-specific factors into models of moral judgment

Complexity analysis and scalability of a matrix-free extrapolated geometric multigrid solver for curvilinear coordinates representations from fusion plasma applications
International audienceTokamak fusion reactors are promising alternatives for future energy production. Gyrokinetic simulations areimportant tools to understand physical processes inside tokamaks and to improve the design of future plants. Ingyrokinetic codes such as Gysela, these simulations involve at each time step the solution of a gyrokinetic Poissonequation defined on disk-like cross sections. The authors of [14,15] proposed to discretize a simplified differentialequation using symmetric finite differences derived from the resulting energy functional and to use an implicitlyextrapolated geometric multigrid scheme tailored to problems in curvilinear coordinates. In this article, we extendthe discretization to a more realistic partial differential equation and demonstrate the optimal linear complexityof the proposed solver, in terms of computation and memory. We provide a general framework to analyze floatingpoint operations and memory usage of matrix-free approaches for stencil-based operators. Finally, we give anefficient matrix-free implementation for the considered solver exploiting a task-based multithreaded parallelismwhich takes advantage of the disk-shaped geometry of the problem. We demonstrate the parallel efficiency forthe solution of problems of size up to 50 million unknowns
Modeling: The Heart and Soul of Engineering Smart Ecosystems
International audienceThe pervasive digitalization of our world has ushered in a new era marked by increased complexity and diversity in the development, optimization, and maintenance of modern software-intensive systems. These systems, often characterized by intricate socio-technical components and AI integration, pose challenges for conventional systems engineering approaches and require an alliance of different disciplines. In this vision paper, we argue that they demand a paradigm shift towards integrative modeling across systems engineering, software engineering, data science, and simulation engineering. We highlight the key challenges faced in the development of modern complex systems that need to be addressed by this paradigm shift. We argue that achieving this shift requires new research, tools, and education
Exponentially Stable Stubborn Observers for Discrete-Time Linear Systems (Extended Version)
International audienceState estimation is crucial for control and monitoring of dynamical systems, but sporadic disturbances (outliers) can severely degrade the estimator's performance. This paper studies the stability of a so-called "stubborn" observer, designed to mitigate the effects of outliers, for discrete-time linear systems. We prove that the detectability of the system is both necessary and sufficient for global exponential stability of the observer, providing an improvement over existing results that rely on potentially infeasible LMI conditions. The proof is constructive, leading to practical guidelines for selecting the observer parameters. Numerical simulations demonstrate the observer's effectiveness in mitigating outliers and its superior performance compared to a classical Luenberger observer
