Effects of underground silo storage on long-term grain preservation: 10 years of experiment
International audienceFindings of charred seeds in archaeological silos are quite common, raising the question of their origin: remnants of burnt-in-place stocks or waste discharged into the structure? The discovery of large silo areas in medieval Mediterranean France delivering archaeological seeds, has revived questions about silage practices, how these structures functioned and their role in past societies. In this sense, the SilArchaeoBio project is carrying out an archaeological and archaeobotanical experimental research, conducted in southern France. It relies on the creation ex nihilo of 2 new functional silos areas, used since 2015. This work aims to address various issues: management and evolution of plant stocks and of the structures through time and taphonomy of the filling. Regarding the archaeobotanical approach, the research consists of documenting several parameters: effect(s) of silo storage on the preservation/degradation of ensiled remains, role of crop processing on the quality of seed conservation, role and advantages of mixed storage, effect of humidity on the stock, chances of stock preservation when the silo is cleaned by fire, etc. The final results of the projects obtained on stored Triticum monococcum, Triticum aestivum and Hordeum vulgare grains are encouraging: they present modes of conversation not described in the ethnographic literature and make it possible to start rethink the way of interpreting the archaeological seeds encountered in archaeological silos
Integration of the evaporable spin-crossover complex [Fe(HB(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl) 3 ) 2 ] into organic field-effect transistors: towards multifunctional OFET devices
International audienceIntegrating stimuli-responsive molecular switches into organic electronic devices opens interesting perspectives to achieve unprecedented functionalities. However, significant challenges arise in maintaining device functionalities and ensuring synergy with the molecular properties. Here, we described three different ways of incorporating thin films of the molecular spin crossover (SCO) complex [Fe(HB(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)3)2] into an organic field-effect transistor (OFET) device. The fabrication of high-quality films was enabled by the use of vacuum thermal evaporation, which permitted the deposition of the SCO compound either on the surface of the organic semiconductor or at the semiconductor/dielectric interface. In device configurations where the SCO layer was not in contact with the conduction channel, changes in the drain-source current were observed near the spin crossover temperature, suggesting a potential synergistic effect. These results provide valuable guidance for the design and integration of bistable-material-based functional devices
Arterial and venous flow dynamics are modified by age in the non-human primate
International audienceGrowing evidence suggests that vascular abnormalities contribute to neurodegenerative processes during ageing. With the anticipated rise in the elderly population, we aimed to characterise arterial and venous flow dynamics, which reflect cardio-cerebro-vascular conditions, using a preclinical model: the marmoset monkey. We employed MRI protocols to image brain and intracranial vessel anatomy. We adapted the phase-contrast MRI protocol to measure blood dynamics synchronised with the ECG signal in the carotid arteries, basilar trunk, superior sagittal, and straight sinuses. We imaged both young and old healthy marmosets. Our analysis revealed a similar chronological sequence of maximal blood flow values in the various arteries and sinuses for both young and old marmosets; however, the peaks occurred earlier in the cardiac cycle for the older group. Furthermore, we observed shorter arterio-venous delays in older marmosets, suggesting ageing-related cardiovascular and cerebrovascular changes. We analysed the temporal progression of arterial and venous blood volumes within the cranial system at the cardiac cycle scale, providing valuable insights into the constraints on the craniospinal system. An illustration of the relationships between input flow and output flow revealed a characteristic hysteresis effect, indicating an age-dependent behaviour of the venous system
Technologie des capteurs de gaz à semi-conducteurs
Gas microsensors are of great industrial interest due to their small size, low consumption, low cost and therefore deployable in a distributed network. Semiconductor gas sensors, although having limited performance compared to analyzers, are among the most commercialized sensors along with electrochemical and optical sensors. This article covers the operation of these sensors, the main materials used (metal oxides) with their detection mechanism as well as the design, manufacturing, characterization and calibration techniques. Current avenues of research around electronic noses and associated perspectives are also discussed.

This article examines the cinephilia of film downloaders between the end of the Napster era (the first P2P network shut down by US authorities in 2001) and that of MegaUpload, shut down in 2012 by New Zealand authorities. This decade has been characterized by the gradual disappearance of the technological barriers that have long hampered the downloading of large files, in tandem with the spread of ADSL and the rise of streaming . Few studies, however, have looked at downloading and streaming from the perspective of the sociology of consumption, considering these content appropriation practices as a means of determining a trend in cinephiles' taste for the cinema object. On the basis of a qualitative survey, we look at the motivations behind downloading and streaming, relating them to the emergence of new cinephilic behaviours ("niche" and "rarity" cinephilias). Today, these indicators converge to suggest that downloading or streaming films is a way of appropriating images that has become commonplace, with few differences from other uses of cinephilia consumed on the big screen.
