An SMS Based Fire Alarm & GAS LEAKAGE DETECTOR USING ARDUINO AND GSM MODULE

    No full text
Abstract LPG gas in Somalia is the cause of many fires, a factor that often causes fires that claims life and property. Therefore, prevention and safety measures are needed to minimize risks. Seeing this and given the technological developments, this work proposes an intelligent fire alarm and gas leakage detector using Arduino-based and GSM module. This tool is equipped with MQ5, SIM800, and buzzer gas sensors. In an embedded device the system that can convert input data received from the sensor Mq-5 sensor works to detect propane and butane gas, then the system will send an (SMS) alarm to the registered mobile number. Besides being able to send SMS the system also emits a sound that is generated from the buzzer to alert the house occupants. Tests conducted show that the system works as intended

Abstract Hepatitis B (HBV) causes potentially fatal liver infection and associated significant morbidity and mortality. It is a public health problem that increases the risk of liver and bile duct carcinoma. This study aimed to assess knowledge and attitude regarding HBV infection among nurses working in Benadir hospital Mogadishu, Somalia Methods: Descriptive hospital-based cross-sectional study design was conducted on nurses working at Benadir Hospital, Mogadishu, Somalia. A representative sample of 92 nurses working in Benadir hospital was recruited for this study during 2020, and a structured questionnaire was used to obtain and collect in-depth information on the nurse's knowledge and attitude towards HBV infection. Results: Of the 92 total respondents, the majority, 66 (72%), were females, and 47 (51%) were young and between the age of 21-30 years. Regarding the educational level, about 51 (55.4%) had a bachelor's degree. The study found that most nurses, 76 (82%), had good knowledge about HBV infection and a positive attitude 78 (85%) towards this infection. Conclusion: The study concluded that most of the nurses working at Benadir hospital had average knowledge of hepatitis Virus infection, mode of transmission, and a positive attitude. The study recommends a further in-depth study on how healthcare provider's knowledge, atttitute, and practice impact tackling the spread of this highly prevalent virus infection in Somalia. Suppose you want to build a computer network, one that has the potential to grow to global proportions and to support applications as diverse as teleconferencing, video on demand, electronic commerce, distributed computing, and digital libraries. What available technologies would serve as the underlying building blocks, and what kind of software architecture would you design to integrate these building blocks into an effective communication service? Answering this question is the overriding goal of this book—to describe the available building materials and then to show how they can be used to construct a network from the ground u

Brokerage Event Towards a FAIR Compliant Commons in the ASREN Region

The proposed event frames in the landscape of actions carried out in Africa to promote FAIR principles and Open Science commons, such as digital repositories and persistent identifiers both for researchers and their research outputs. We aim at bringing in the same virtual place solution seekers, solution providers, policy makers and end users to trigger new collaborations through an original and innovative “try before you buy” approach. The event is proposed to last 3 hours and it is divided in three parts: a workshop, a brokerage session, and a hands-on tutorial. Although the proposed event is mainly targeting the ASREN region, it already includes contributions from Europe as well as from other parts of Africa and, if the proposal will be accepted, proponents will act to involve as many other countries as possible due to their involvement in AfricaConnect3, LIBSENSE and other related initiative

Leveraging the Power of Community for Open Science

    No full text
Abstract The collaborative networks that make open science possible are made of the people and organizations who actually produce and also consume open science. This is basically the essence of community and it has a far more significant potential than it seems to capitalize on. The continuity of the efforts to boost open science rests on strengthening the sense of community among the scientists and within the institutions. Three perspectives on the issue are presented in this discussion. The community as the foundation or platform for driving open science adoption perspective calls for the strategic structuring of communities in a hierarchically-organized manner but with less red-tape to not discourage innovation agility; the community as a producer-consumer perspective focuses on putting into effect rules and protocols for exchanging open science artifacts within the community modeling open source licenses; and the community as the incubation grounds for young scientists perspective calls for implementing support group strategies that encourage more young people to engage in science and contribute to the open science efforts. Exploiting the power of community effectively has the potential of keeping more senior and young scientists engaged in the open science efforts. The research and education networks need to look beyond connectivity and nurture communities from their end-user communities to empower them to create open science and knowledge

A Design and Implementation of a Smart Parking System Using IoT And Mobile Technologies

    No full text
Abstract In modern days, finding a parking space in a busy city center is often a confusing task and many driver's time and fuel are wasted in the exploration for a vacant spot. This paper describes a prototype for a smart parking system which enables drivers to explore the parking area remotely, spot vacant parking spaces, reserve it for a period, and pay the service through mobile payment system. The smart car parking System (SCPS) is implemented using the ultrasonic and IR sensors, in combination with the usage of the Internet of Things. The drivers can see which parking slot is empty and where to park by sending the data of ultrasonic and IR sensors through a Wi-Fi module that is ESP8266, and NODMCU to any open source easy to use the IoT platform (Google Firebase). The system has been tested and showed that it is a promising solution for parking problems in Mogadishu booming business areas
