Load Slammer Design for DC-DC Converter Testing

    Get PDF
In this work, we dive into the detailed design of a test load or load slammer circuit for DC/DC converters to ensure their correct functioning. This is accomplished through quick variations in frequency, amplitude, and duty cycle of the current being drawn by the converter into the load. Computer simulations of the design were performed using LTSpice and the results show that the load current could be varied per design objectives. Hardware implementation of the design was also conducted and then tested. Results were then compared with the design requirements at lower currents to evaluate the validity of the design. Although good results were obtained from the current design, further improvements would still be needed to improve the overall performance and design of the load slammer circuit

    Guastavino: Learn By Doweling

We embarked on a journey into the world of shells this quarter! We began the process with form finding using rhino and grasshopper. Then made a study model using laser cutters to brainstorm ways to construct the real-life model. As a class, we completed two shell structures

For this project, we were tasked with designing a sun shelter by SLO Botanical Gardens for their Children\u27s Garden. It was requested that the form by derived from structural shells. The structure is to serve as a multi-purpose space to host a variety of activities on the 30 foot by 60 foot site

Book Review of White Tears, Brown Scars: How White Feminism Betrays Women of Color

    Get PDF
White Tears, Brown Scars: How White Feminism Betrayed Women of Color, by Ruby Hamad, addresses the distress around the pedagogy of Critical Race Theory in educational systems from the standpoint of politics of emotions and emotional interactions of the dominant social groups with racial minorities. The author articulates some of the emotional tactics that make up “toxic femininity,” specifically for white women, and unveils the scars caused by these delicate yet intruding performances. Through shedding “white tears,” which Hamad defines as dishonest emotions, white women utilize emotional expression, primarily crying, to shut down the conversation about race and suppress the agencies of their sisters of color. Not surprisingly, the author received severe waves of “global backlash” on social media in calling out another racist microaggression

Population Growth vs. Landfill Capacity vs. Recycling Mandates in California Counties

    Get PDF
As population growth increases in Monterey, Fresno, Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties, so does waste production. More waste is a cause for concern because landfills have limited capacities. In order to combat the increase in waste, cities, counties, and the state are creating recycling mandates to ensure waste is being handled appropriately. More specifically, the trash generated by residents and construction and demolition (C&D) materials are being recycled and reused instead of thrown into landfills. This report indicates that increases in recycling mandates in California cannot withstand the increase in waste generation from population growth. Another way to combat waste is to introduce ways to reuse materials. These ideas are explored via case studies and later in the paper

    Sneak Peek: Sneaker App Design

    Get PDF
Sneak Peek is a fictional mobile application I created for this senior project. It is an informational and social app that allows users to browse sneakers and read sneaker news, as well as interact with other users and the content within the app. The goal of this project is to create a fully designed high-fidelity prototype showing the complete user journey throughout the platform

This internship and project report includes documentation required in meeting the quality criteria for secondary-level programs of instruction in agriculture. The documents are concurrently used for the Agriculture Incentive Grant review process at Strathmore High School, conducted by representatives of the California Department of Education. The supporting material includes information to receive state and local funding, outline the goals and objectives of the program, along with an overview of Strathmore High School, the agriculture program and the community

Determining the Interest for a Drone Certification Course

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to explore the interest of the Construction Management students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with drone usage and acquiring a drone license. This research paper analyzes students\u27 prior skill sets that were gained from a past internship or class and if that exposure to drones is sufficient enough to apply those skills to the construction industry. Implementing a drone certification course will benefit both the students and companies in the construction industry. Within the construction industry there is a rise in popularity with using technology devices to track and collect data, implementing a course or elective that help students gain their drone license within the Construction Management Department will better prepare students to apply drone usage to the construction field. A course of this sort will help students create a stronger resume and it may lead to new career opportunities. This paper explores students’ interest on the topic and why obtaining a drone license would be beneficial. That was done by conducting a survey that consisted of 12 questions, this survey was shared with Construction Management students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Based on the study that was conducted the majority of students would be interested in taking a drone certification course

    Tree Climbing Limb Saw

    Get PDF
This document is the comprehensive report for the Tree Climbing Limb Saw Senior Project. The purpose of the Tree Climbing Limb Saw project, completed by mechanical engineers Andrew Bray, Aimee Chiem, Drew Robles, and Parker Tenney, is to remove low-hanging branches (\u3c15 \u3eft) to prevent forest fires from travelling up into the canopy, where wind can carry embers for miles. An RC car was heavily modified to create a solution for this problem. A chainsaw was also mounted to deal with the cutting part of the problem. Creating a project which aims to solve this problem is a great step towards innovation reaching the wildfire sector. With increased innovation in the field, wildfires may become easier to control. This comprehensive report includes the initial Scope of Work report of this project, followed by the Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, and Final Design Review Report
