Detecting Alzheimer\u27s Disease using Artificial Neural Networks

    Get PDF
This project aims to use artificial neural networks (ANN) in order to detect Alzheimer’s disease. More specifically, convolutional neural networks (CNN) will be utilized as this is the most common ANN and has been used in many different image processing applications. The purpose of using artificial neural networks as a detect method is so that an intelligent way for image and signal analysis can be used. A software that implements CNN will be developed so that users in medical settings can utilize this software to detect Alzheimer’s in patients. The input for this software will be the patient’s MRI scans. In addition, this is a project that is relevant with the current trends of an increase in development surrounding artificial intelligence. As technology has become more advanced, there has been an increase in medical developments as well. From the simulation, the hyperbolic tangent activation function provided the best results. The performance resulting from the two classifications when using the hyperbolic tangent function, on average was validation best accuracy of 81.10%, validation stopped tuning accuracy of 81.10%, training best accuracy of 100.00%, testing best accuracy of 68.94%, F-1 score of 70.06%, precision of 71.00%, and recall of 70.06%. This project will open doors to more applications of this detection method. More diseases other than Alzheimer’s disease can utilize artificial neural networks (ANN) to detect diseases early on so that lives can be restored and saved

Home Based Business Ordinance for the City of Reno

    Get PDF
Home based businesses allow for some commercial and business activities to occur within private residences by residents without the need of commercially zoned properties or structures. Home based businesses provide affordable accommodation for less impactful small businesses, but can additionally impact neighbors and communities with negative externalities when not properly regulated. The City of Reno, Nevada currently faces rising land prices and limited availability of commercial properties. Such conditions increase the adoption of home based businesses, and combined with the lack of regulation can create nuisances within communities. The ordinance proposal analyzes relevant legal cases, case study ordinances, and the contemporary needs of the community to best regulate the operation and growth of home based businesses within the City of Reno through a permitting process and performance standards

    Solar Array Mini Rover

The RoverX Senior Project has been an evolutionary process, with its roots in the RoverX Capstone project which concluded in the Winter of 2023. Our journey commenced with a core focus on hardware, which culminated in the successful creation of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Further information on our initial endeavors can be found in the 2022 Alpha Report and the 2023 Summary of Handoff Contents/Quick Start Guide for the RoverX project. However, recognizing the limitless possibilities of software in enhancing the rover\u27s capabilities, our focus shifted towards this exciting frontier. Our final quarter of the senior project was dedicated to refining the source code and generating comprehensive documentation, which will serve as an invaluable guide for future rover teams. In consultation with Prof. Murray, we embarked on the creation of a command layer. The intention behind this was to provide a user-friendly interface where high-level commands could be input and subsequently executed by the rover. The unique structure of this layer was conceived to include an outer layer written in C++, which would then interact with Python-based movement functions controlling the rover. This interaction is facilitated by an innovative interpreter , designed to bridge the C++ and Python realms by translating C++ commands into executable Python scripts. This strategic choice was fueled by the impending transition of the rover\u27s source code from Python to C++ or another object-oriented language by the subsequent rover team. Our aim was to provide a flexible outer layer that could be seamlessly integrated with the new C++ rover source code. In essence, we envisaged creating a dynamic platform that could adapt to future advancements, fostering an environment of continuous development and innovation for the RoverX project

Design and Analysis of 3D Cassegrain Antenna using HFSS

    No full text
Parabolic antennas offer high gain and narrow beamwidth by employing a reflector to collimate radio waves. Dual reflectors reduce antenna system size over single reflectors and increase design optimization options. This paper introduces a detailed HFSS-based Cassegrain dual reflector design procedure for antenna design engineers. A stripline power splitter excites a 4x4 patch feed array. The parameterized model illustrates performance tradeoffs to meet system operating requirements

The Importance of Implementing Safety Programs for Spanish-Only Workers in MEP

    Get PDF
Hispanics make up 30% of the construction workers, the highest percentage of any non-Hispanic minority group. Unfortunately, evidence also suggests Hispanic and Latino workers with limited to no English language skills are not receiving an adequate amount of safety training which is a growing concern. A lack of safety training and language barriers on the jobsite are seen as the cause for Hispanic workers having 41.6% higher injuries and non-fatal injuries in construction as compared to non-Hispanics in 2020. Three contractors were interviewed about their safety training programs for Spanish-only workers to find what strategies were found to be effective. Four main strategies said to have increased effectiveness: Having a company culture that revolved around safety, having videos to help Spanish-only workers visualize hazards on the jobsite, having Spanish-speaking instructors to conduct safety training for Spanish-only workers, and having a bilingual foreman or superintendent level employee to enforce safety protocol. Each interviewee also unanimously agreed that safety programs for Spanish-only workers would only become more important in the future. The strategies found in this paper may be used as be used as a reference to other MEP companies who seek to further refine their own safety programs

    SLO City GaGa Pit

    Get PDF
This project included designing, constructing, and assembling a GaGa court, also known as a GaGa pit, for a local community church in San Luis Obispo. GaGa is a game similar to dodgeball where all the players are inside an octagonal court and try to hit each other with a rubber ball below the knees. The walls help keep the ball within the court and can be used to bounce the ball off of. Dimensional lumber was used to construct the walls as it is both durable and strong. The walls were also extensively sanded to prevent any sharp corners or splinters in order to maximize safety. The walls were finished with stain and then transported and assembled onsite at the church. One crucial design consideration was the ability for the court to be taken apart if needed and not a permanent structure. Another key design challenge was constructing a court that was strong enough to withstand play but light enough to be easily transported and set up. This project benefited the community by providing a fun outdoor recreational opportunity for kids. It also enriched my construction management skills by providing me with real-world construction and project management experience
