Fast and High-Resolution View Synthesis from a Single Input Panorama
We introduce a novel method to convert a single input panorama into a 3D colored mesh representation of the scene. Unlike recent methods based on neural rendering, which are limited to low-resolution inputs and offline rendering, our approach supports 4k resolution inputs and real time rendering in a virtual reality headset. We first estimate a depth map and produce an initial layered depth image (LDI) representation. We fill unseen regions behind objects by iteratively cutting and inpainting the LDI. We then convert the LDI into an optimized, texture mapped mesh to achieve a compact representatio
Cal Poly Masters Program Projects
Through participating in an agricultural education master\u27s program and competing on the university rodeo team, I gained valuable leadership experience that will benefit me in my future career. I learned how to motivate and engage students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles in the classroom setting. I was also responsible for producing projects that required facilitating, researching, and reaching out to different groups from Cal Poly.
The agricultural education master\u27s program and rodeo team provided a fertile training ground for leadership growth. The skills I cultivated in communication, organization, emotional intelligence, and responsibility to self and others will allow me to lead effectively in my future professional endeavors. This experience was transformative in shaping me into a principled leader ready to make positive impacts in the agriculture industry
Nasogastric Tube Insertion Aid
The Nasogastric Tube Insertion Aid project, developed under the sponsorship of the BiCEP Program at California Polytechnic State University, aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of nasogastric (NG) tube placement. This initiative was inspired by challenges observed during the BiCEP summer program, where difficulties in NG tube insertions led to multiple attempts, increased patient discomfort, and serious medical risks, including lung punctures and brain trauma. The project\u27s goal was to design an insertion aid that improves placement accuracy while being cost-effective and user-friendly for medical professionals. The device features an external tensioning mechanism that allows controlled deflection of the NG tube tip, guiding it safely into the esophagus while avoiding the trachea
American Media and Memories: How Visual Media Tells the History of the World Wars in the 21st Century
This paper examines how fictional digital media–film, television, and digital games–have both mirrored and influenced the American popular memory of the World Wars, establishing how visual media in the last 25 years has disseminated distinct historical themes and narratives to American audiences. Examining both World Wars together allow us to witness historical narratives of WWI and WWII intersecting across many works of media, applying critical elements of one conflict\u27s memory to the other. This is accomplished through the process of historical thematic dissemination, through with creators off all three types of visual media pay homage to or draw on historical points from other works.
This paper is divided into four parts. Part I examines WWII media in the 2000s and its central narratives. Part II examines WWI media in the 21st century, and the differences between film and digital game depictions of the war. Part III examines WWII media in the 2010s and 2020\u27s, as many works challenge popular American conceptions of the conflict and draw of themes from WWI media to do so. Part IV examines how \u27the enemy\u27 is depicted in WWI/WWII media, and the roots of these depictions in long-held conceptions about America\u27s past opponents
