The sensation of a scale-breaking superstar: A short film
The Sensation of a Scale-Breaking Superstar is a short narrative film that discusses the marginalization of plus-sized individuals in “appearance-reliant” industries through Eisha, who dreams of becoming a P-pop idol. It focuses on the deep-rooted issues and behaviors caused by fatphobia that damages plus-sized individuals’ self-esteem, their chances of employment, and quality of life.
Despite the push for inclusivity across various fields, the K-pop industry—along with its companies and consumers—continues to uphold unrealistic body standards, reinforce the male gaze, and a toxic fan culture dictating idol perception. This successfully alienates individuals who are outside these standards, fostering “othering” and exclusivity in the entertainment industry, and creating unsafe environments that perpetuate bigoted ideals.
As the Philippines follows these global standards, the feature also emphasizes the increasing concern about how the P-pop industry emulates the K-pop methodology and therefore extends these beliefs to our media. Following a three-act structure, the film aims to be a counter-discourse to this ongoing exclusivity, portraying a character establishing herself in a company and an audience that deems her unfit, but choosing herself and her dream without compromising who she is. The film highlights the transformation of Eisha from a hopeful trainee (pre-debut) to a distraught individual (due to maltreatment), and finally, a performer, empowered by her experiences.

Youth in Leadership: Exploring the Roles, Challenges, and Impact of Sangguniang Kabataan Chairpersons in Community Development
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) plays a vital role in youth leadership and community development in the Philippines, yet its impact in Baguio City remains underexplored. This study examines the responsibilities, challenges, and strategies of SK Chairpersons in addressing youth-related issues. Using a qualitative research design with descriptive phenomenology, the study captures the firsthand experiences of eight SK Chairpersons, aged 18 to 24, through face-to-face interviews. Thematic analysis reveals key obstacles, including low youth engagement, leadership struggles, and difficulties in forming a quorum, which hinder project approvals and funding. Success depends on youth participation, priority setting, and balancing leadership with personal commitments. The findings highlight that while SK serves a crucial role, its effectiveness is constrained by financial limitations, operational challenges, and conflicting responsibilities. Youth leaders face public pressure and systemic barriers, requiring strategic support and empowerment. The study underscores the need for policies that enhance SK’s capacity through professional development, resource allocation, and inclusive governance. Strengthening youth leadership frameworks is essential for SK Chairpersons to maximize their impact and fulfill their duties effectively
Electrochemical histamine sensor based on nickel hexacyanoferrate-modified glassy carbon electrode
Histamine, which is produced during bacterial degradation of seafoods, is an indicator of food spoilage. Allergic reactions to histamine, especially in seafood products, are potentially life-threatening to some people. In this study, we report on a non-enzymatic histamine sensor based on a nickel hexacyanoferrate-modified glassy carbon electrode (GC/NiHCF). The morphology and composition of the modified electrode were characterized by SEM, EDS, and FTIR. Using the GC/NiHCF electrode, the oxidation potential of histamine starts from 1.1V. The developed electrode used in the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique was able to increase the response of histamine from 15.56% for the bare electrode to 42.27% for the modified electrode. The modified electrode was also proven to be selective to histamine in the presence of interfering species such as histidine and glycine. The modified electrode exhibited a linear range from 0.75 to 5.0 ppm with a limit of detection determined at 329 ppb. The GC/NiHCF electrode showed a satisfactory recovery performance of 101.13% and 103.32% for yellow fin tuna and mackerel, respectively. The sensor was able to retain 83.1% of its initial response after 150 continuous histamine measurements. Comparison of the EIS technique using the GC/NiHCF electrode with the standard fluorometry technique showed 1.62% and 1.09% difference in detecting histamine in yellowfin tuna and mackerel, respectively. Overall, the GC/NiHCF electrode in EIS was able to demonstrate effectiveness in detecting histamine in real fish samples.

On the effects of edge contraction and edge addition on some graph parameters
In graph theory, edge contraction is a graph operation that combines two adjacent vertices into one. Edge addition, on the other hand, is a graph operation that joins two non-adjacent vertices with an additional edge. Graphs parameters are numerical values that describe graphs, in which they may be used to determine the similarities and differences of graphs according to their respective parameters. Through graph operations such as edge contraction and addition, the structure of graphs may change, as well as the values of their graph parameters. In this paper, we determine the effects of k-edge contractions and k-edge additions for some positive integer k on the chromatic number, independence number, domination number, and Euclidean dimension of some special graphs. These special graphs are cycles, paths, wheels, bipartite and complete bipartite graphs, and complete graphs. Additionally, we determine the maximum number of edge contractions and additions that can be performed on some graphs such that the graph parameters are preserved
PlasTilapia: Potential of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Scales for Creating Bioplastics
Plastic waste is a global problem affecting General Santos City (GenSan). Though brown paper bags are alternatives, they tear easily and may cause deforestation. South Cotabato, including GenSan, produces large amounts of tilapia. Their discarded scales contain collagen that can be used to create sustainable biopolymers. This study explores the potential of tilapia scales for creating bioplastics, focusing on tensile strength and biodegradability as eco-friendly alternatives to plastics.
For this study, one kilogram of raw tilapia fish scales was used. The scales were cleaned, oven-dried at 60°C for three hours, ground, and soaked in a 0.1N sodium hydroxide solution for 48 hours. After filtration, the softened scales were heated at 80°C for 10 minutes, cooled, and blended into a gelatinous substance. This was mixed with cornstarch, glycerin, vinegar, gelatin, and water in a 3:3:1:1:1:12 ratio (teaspoons), then heated at 80°C for 15 minutes until thickened. The mixture was poured onto an aluminum tray and oven-dried at 60°C for one hour, producing thirty bioplastic sheets that are 1mm thick.
Tensile strength testing on 15 samples showed an average strength of 11.76 MPa, withstanding up to 1.2 kilograms of load, suitable for lightweight packaging. Biodegradability was tested by burying 15 samples in natural soil for seven days. All fully decomposed, showing mold growth, discoloration, and disintegration.
These findings highlight fish-scale bioplastics as promising eco-friendly alternatives. Further research is recommended to improve properties and test performance in varied environments
Viajeros: Narratives of Filipino musicians in D=diaspora
The researcher of this thesis project gathered a modest volume of nonfiction narratives or what we would call kwentong buhay” (life stories) of five (5) “viajeros”: three male instrumentalists who performed on cruise ships; as well as two female vocalists who have performed in land-based destinations of live entertainment, including restaurants, clubs, bars, hotels, and resorts.
The narratives in the collection or anthology were written like typical feature articles in a newspaper or magazine, focused on one person per essay. They are meant to fill gaps or address the dearth on narratives about travelling or migrant Filipino musicians
