To Us for Every Decision We Make: A Deleuzian and Guattarian Criticism of the Films To Me The One Who Loved You and To Every You I\u27ve Loved Before
Anime has emerged not only as a form of entertainment but also as a cultural and philosophical medium exploring concepts such as identity, decision-making, and existential dilemmas. Despite its growing influence in both global and Filipino contexts, little scholarly attention has been given to how philosophical frameworks like Deleuze and Guattari can be applied to analyze such narratives. The study analyzed To Every You I’ve Loved Before and To Me The One Who Loved You while applying Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophical approach to understand how decisions, with identity formation and social norms, affect character development. The research applies qualitative textual analysis to analyze both films, applying core concepts from A Thousand Plateaus (1987), which include rhizomatic thinking, becoming, body without organs (BwO), smooth and striated space, assemblage, deterritorialization, and line of flight. The analysis relied on Herman’s Narrative Framework (2009) to examine how Koyomi’s choices develop because of his previous experiences. Through his travels between parallel realms, Koyomi illustrates the constant battle between the forces of free choice and the unavoidable effects of actions. Through his choices, Koyomi demonstrates the fluidity of identity and the complexity of self-determination via loss and external factors, together with feelings of regret. The study emphasizes that Anime functions as a philosophical platform that presents existential problems that connect with people, especially those in the exploration phase of their lives. The study adds valuable insights to research about philosophical film analysis, animated narrative structures, and individuals’ development based on their environment and decisions
Costumes, Connections, and Community: An In-depth Exploration of the Dynamics Within the Cosplaying Community
Cosplay is a fun way to express oneself through costumes and roleplay that has given rise to a vibrant global community. While various studies have explored certain elements of this phenomenon, the cosplay community remains partially unexplored. This research aims to further investigate the dynamics of the cosplay community, providing meaningful insights into the identity processes, motivations, sense of belonging, and creativity that define it. Using in-depth interviews and online questionnaires, the research examines how cosplayers interact with community-building, creativity, identity, and self-expression. Findings reveal that cosplayers actively engage with these aspects as they inspire, interact, and guide others, fostering inclusivity, shared cultures, and personal growth. This enables individuals to explore and express themselves and their identities while contributing to a supportive and evolving community. From simple roleplay to community-driven events, this growing social activity serves as both a social and personal journey of self-discovery and self-development
Morphological, mid-FTIR Spectral, and Thermal Characterization of Oxidized Cellulose Gel from Philippine Rice (NSIC Rc222, Tubigan 18) Husk
Modern agriculture still encounters challenges like water scarcity, soil degradation, and the adverse effects of synthetic agrochemicals, proving the importance of hydrogels for their water retention properties. The Philippines, rich in rice husks, offers low-cost materials for hydrogel production as these are abundant in cellulose. Transforming these into oxidized cellulose-based hydrogels utilizes waste and mitigates pollution. This study aims to synthesize an oxycellulose hydrogel derived from rice husk cellulose through TEMPO-oxidation and Ca²⁺ ionotropic gelation, and characterize its morphological and thermal features. However, the study does not test its effects on plant growth and acknowledges the possible limitations in material accessibility. A quantitative experimental design was employed to evaluate the hydrogel’s structure and suitability for agriculture—the methods involved extracting cellulose from rice husks through alkaline treatment and bleaching. The extracted cellulose was oxidized using TEMPO-mediated oxidation for hydrogel formation through ionotropic gelation, followed by sonication and molding with CaCl₂ solution to transform it into hydrogel cubes. For characterization, the hydrogels underwent SEM for morphology and elemental composition, FTIR for functional groups, and DSC for thermal properties. FTIR analysis reveals the successful lignin elimination, addition of carboxyl groups, and stable hydrogel network. DSC findings indicate modification in the material’s thermal characteristics because of oxidation and gelation, increasing water absorption. SEM showed a rough, porous surface with fragmented morphology and visible voids, improving water retention. Based on these results, the hydrogel’s structure indicates effective moisture management and is well-suited for potential agricultural applications

HOOKED was founded in 2025 to challenge fast fashion by bridging the gap between functionality, versatility, and sustainability in bags. The brand focuses on creating multifunctional products handcrafted by Filipino artisans for individuals who value adaptability and environmentally conscious fashion. HOOKED operates as a sole proprietorship under Abreine Torres to simplify its legal structure and minimize taxation. The business is managed collaboratively by Joe Anne Opelanio (Production Manager), John Will Adorna (Marketing Manager), Maria Elizabeth Alvaran (Human Resources Manager), and Harry Christopher Walton (Financial Manager)—displaying fit characteristics to their positions—with guidance from Mentor Norie Lisa Ecija. Their first product, YUGTO, was launched at the ABM Bazaar of De La Salle University Laguna in February 2025. Since then, HOOKED has built its market presence through targeted publicity. With ₱21,192 in capital equally shared among the five members, the team generated ₱34,770 in sales from 30 units, surpassing its ₱29,085 breakeven point at 25 units, indicating profitability and potential for sustainable growth. This initial increase will fund its product diversification and targeted online advertising to reach a broader audience. Being in the local bag industry, HOOKED aims to compete with established brands like Rags2Riches and Niqua. While these competitors operate at a higher price range, HOOKED provides a more affordable yet high-quality alternative. In the future, the team plans to apply for an industrial design patent for its unique bag designs and strengthen its advocacy by donating a portion of its profit to The Hinabi Project
Evaluating the Absorption Capacity and pH Level Properties of Varying Ratios of Garlic (Allium Sativum) and Onion (Allium Cepa) Peels for the Absorbent Core of Sanitary Napkins
Considering the need for sustainable and enhanced menstrual hygiene products, this study aimed to assess the absorption capacity and average pH value of varying ratios of onion (Allium cepa) and garlic (Allium sativum) peels in developing an eco-friendly absorbent core for sanitary napkins. Employing a pre-experimental one-shot case design, the experimental group is subjected to pH and absorbency tests. The evaluation focused on measures of absorbency and pH levels of the sanitary napkin cores made from three different fiber ratios: 6g onion-4g garlic, 4g onion-6g garlic, and 5g onion-5g garlic, each combined with 10g of organic cotton. Results indicated that Ratio 3 registered the highest mean absorbency of 24.89 mL. Followed by Ratio 1 at 24.11 mL, and Ratio 2 at 22.61 mL, with no significant difference observed (p = .746). However, significant differences were found in pH levels (p \u3c .001). Ratio 2 at 7.69 yielded the most neutral pH among the ratios, while Ratio 3 exhibited an elevated pH (9.95). Thus, changing applications in formulations will bring about the expected differences concerning absorbency and pH, which are critical to keeping environmentally friendly absorbent materials effective in sanitary napkins. This study emphasizes the potential of onion and garlic peels as sustainable materials for sanitary napkins, contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly menstrual products. Further studies should create a full sanitary napkin while integrating biodegradability and microbial testing for broader testing and evaluation of safety and sustainability; exploring other viable peels and potential methods could enhance the production feasibility
A bibliometric analysis of microbial source tracking from Southeast Asia: Insights and trends from Scopus database (2013-2024)
This study presents a bibliometric analysis of microbial source tracking (MST) in Southeast Asia (SEA), highlighting its significance in identifying fecal contamination sources in water bodies. The study aims to evaluate publication trends, key contributors, and emerging themes within MST research from 2013 to 2024. Utilizing the PRISMA framework and Scopus database, the analysis identifies 15 relevant articles, revealing a gradual increase in MST publications, primarily driven by Thailand and international collaborations. Despite the growing body of research, MST remains underutilized in the region due to limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of trained professionals. The findings underscore the need for greater investment and policy support to enhance MST methodologies, improve water quality management, and address public health concerns in SEA. The study aims to inform future research directions and foster international partnerships to bridge existing knowledge gaps, ultimately contributing to effective water quality monitoring and public health strategies across the region
In silico analysis to identify and evaluate protein antigens from taenia solium and taenia saginata as a potential vaccine candidate against taenia infection
Taeniasis is a parasitic infection caused by Taenia species, namely Taenia solium (pork tapeworm) and Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm). This infection can present great health risks and is prevalent in different regions, such as Latin America, Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, India, and Asia. A host can be infected by consuming raw or undercooked beef or pork. This study aims to identify protein antigens from the Taenia species itself that may have potential immunogenic effects against Taenia infection. The researchers used in silico methodologies for this study and integrated multiple tests such as cellular localization, prediction of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) epitopes, helper T-lymphocyte (HTL) epitopes, linear B-cell epitopes, antigenicity assessment, and allergenicity assessment. Researchers identified a total of ten protein antigens, five for Taenia solium and five for Taenia saginata, all retrieved from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. Results indicate two protein antigen candidates that showed great immunogenic potential, specifically “18 kDa oncosphere antigen” taken from Taenia solium and “Tovis13” taken from Taenia saginata. The construction of the multi-epitope vaccine sequence is done with the use of linkers. A GPGPG linker connects the linear B-cell and HTL epitopes, while an AAY linker connects the CTL epitopes. Additionally, toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2), was chosen as the adjuvant to enhance the efficacy of the vaccine. The researchers recommend integrating in vitro experiments to further validate the antigenicity and immunogenicity of the protein antigens, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), western blot analysis, and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) stimulation assays. Advanced in silico methods may also be performed as these remain efficient, cost-effective, and highly scalable in finding viable vaccine candidates. With the application of genomic, proteomic, and immunoinformatics data, the use of bioinformatics databases and online platforms improves the robustness of vaccine design

Prevalence of foodborne parasites in various vegetables from selected Quezon City markets
Vegetables are a significant component of the Filipino diet due to their nutritional value and accessibility to households. However, these can harbor various foodborne parasites when consumed raw and unwashed. This research investigates the prevalence of foodborne parasites in various types of vegetables from selected public markets in Quezon City. Four different classifications of vegetables were used, namely tuber (potato), fruity (eggplant), leafy (cabbage), and bulb (onion), with a total of 108 samples and 27 samples per classification. Moreover, this research also explores the effects of different washing treatments in the presence of parasites. The treatments include tap water, saline solution, and an unwashed treatment as the control. Following the application of the washing treatment, the samples underwent the sedimentation technique to isolate potential parasites present. The sediment was collected and mounted on a glass slide for microscopic examination. The results revealed that 36 out of the 108, or 33% vegetable samples were contaminated with foodborne parasites like Ascaris spp., Taenia spp., Cryptosporidium spp., Fasciola spp., and Trichuris spp. The study has found that the prevalence of parasites such vegetable types, though varying, is not statistically significant at pAscaris spp. was found to be the most detected parasite (33%). While onions were found to have the highest parasite detection rate among vegetables (44.44%). Lastly, control treatment resulted to the highest number of parasitic prevalence (44%). Thai Elderly’s Working Needs During 2007–2021: Empirical Findings on Aging Health Status and Impact From Thai Elderly Financial Support Policy
Thailand has implemented many initiatives in response to the growing older population. One of the objectives was to increase revenue through employment. This study examines the employment demands of the elderly population by considering their health status, eyesight, and hearing capacity, with the aim of improving the provision of employment support for the elderly. The data from the survey of older persons during 2007–2021 were examined. The results revealed that the Thai elderly’s working needs are likely to continually increase. However, their health status, eyesight capability, and hearing ability significantly affected the elderly’s working opportunities. One intriguing discovery pertained to the policy phenomena of implementing elderly allowances, which aimed to enhance the financial stability of older individuals who do not get additional government benefits. The introduction of the policy led to a reduction in the employment requirements of the senior population in the initial year of the research
