Integrative hypothetical teaching trajectory for technologically-culturally sustaining paradidactic praxeologies in mathematics: A critical dialectical pluralism approach

    No full text
In this study, I adapted the term Integrative Hypothetical “Teaching” Trajectory (IHTT), a model designed to develop mathematical teaching pathways that are both technologically and culturally sustaining. This model is grounded in the concept of paradidactic praxeology, which consists of two interconnected blocks: the praxis (i.e., Type of Task [T_pd] and Technique [τ_pd]) and the logos (i.e., Technology [θ_pd] and Theory [Θ_pd]). The IHTT framework was inspired by my previous and ongoing collaborations with indigenous teachers, as well as by recent literature on emerging trends in mathematics education. These influences led me to pose the question: How can teachers adapt to technological innovations while remaining rooted in their cultural identity? Employing a design-based research approach and guided by the methodological principles of critical dialectical pluralism, the development of the IHTT unfolded across three phases with the participation of 11 teachers, 3 ethnomathematicians, 3 educational technology practitioners, and 2 expert teachers. During the design and planning phase, a review of seminal theories, practitioners’ epistemological and ontological beliefs, and teachers’ existing praxeologies informed the initial design of the IHTT. Cultural elements such as batek and laga from the Kalinga province were integrated as exemplars of cultural characteristics, while laptops and projectors served as the technological resources. In the instructional design phase, a series of focus group discussions supported the implementation and refinement of the IHTT, with particular attention given to the evolution of τ_pd and their justifications through θ_pd and Θ_pd, anchored in a clearly defined T_pd. Finally, in the retrospective analysis phase, the IHTT was found to be effective in supporting the design of instruction that is both technologically relevant and culturally sustaining. Significant improvements were observed in teachers’ praxeologies, including the development of more diverse and systematic τ_pd from a defined T_pd, stronger rationale through θ_pd, and deeper alignment with broader educational theory via Θ_pd. These findings further informed the overall structure of the paradidactic praxeology (T_pd, τ_pd, θ_pd, Θ_pd). It is anticipated that the IHTT will continue to serve as a viable framework for supporting teachers as they navigate emerging trends in mathematics education while maintaining their cultural identity and context

Effect of Trade Openness on Food Security in Economic Community of West African States Region

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of trade openness on food security in the ECOWAS trade zone. The study relied on the system GMM approach to analyze the impact of trade openness on overall and disaggregated components of food security in the ECOWAS trade zone during the period 2014 and 2021. Annual time series data were sourced from the Food and Agriculture Organization, World Bank Metadata base, and World Integrated Trade Solution. Major findings from the study reveal that trade openness has a significant positive impact on overall food security indicators. However, trade openness has not significantly impacted food availability and access in the ECOWAS region during the period investigated. This finding informs the conclusion that trade openness tends to lose its potency as an important policy tool for achieving greater food security in the ECOWAS trade zone when its impact is considered on a disaggregated scale; hence, the desirability of trade openness as a policy tool in improving food security of ECOWAS member countries is only to the extent of being a complement policy and not a substitute to existing national food and agricultural policies and programs

The Follower Fallacy: Revisiting Engagement Hypothesis by Evidencing Nonlinear Dynamics in Influencer Marketing

    No full text
The traditional premise posits a positive correlation between influencer following (indegree) and engagement metrics, covering likes, shares, comments, and so forth. This study aims to either affirm or dent this engagement hypothesis. Through a methodical analysis of engagement data, this research recognizes potential deviations from the anticipated linear trajectory. Contrary to antecedental social influence, campaign customization, indegree composition, and post components define diverse nonlinear trajectories, empirically challenging the existing research assumptions underlying hypothesis. By evidencing the multifaceted dynamics of influencer engagement, this study offers critical insights for marketers navigating the complexities of contemporary digital marketing landscapes, facilitating the optimization of influencer marketing strategies to enhance audience engagement and brand impact

Mano a mano: A short film

    No full text
Aims to investigate the impact on a relationship between a Filipino elderly parent and their adult child–when the parent expresses their desire to be sent to a retirement home. This underscores changing family structures and the interplay between cultural values and social contexts. While elderly care is a prominent traditional practice that continually carries on in the Philippines, the ever-changing and dynamic nature of society pushes major differences when juggling familial responsibilities. Mano a Mano explores themes of filial piety, complexities of aging, growing cultural values, and elderly care, particularly in modern contexts. The short film is primarily in Filipino with some parts being in English. A semi-structured interview was conducted with six (6) participants who are aged 25 and above, that are currently looking after and taking care of their elderly parent/s. The participants expressed their thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences regarding elderly care in modern context—all while providing clear insights on the challenges and emotional dilemmas associated with the topic of retirement homes. With that, dramatizations were written, then produced and recorded to help portray the struggles that arise from the interplay of cultural values and societal contexts in elderly care. The clips for this project were produced and shot in person, ensuring consistent and cohesive quality throughout the film in MP4 Format. This format was selected to maintain high-resolution quality and ensure compatibility, allowing multiple digital platforms to maximize audience reach. This cinematic format aims to foster critical discussions and increase awareness about the dynamics of elderly care in the Philippines

Japanese threat perception: A comparative analysis of Japan’s responses to the Kuril Islands/Northern territories and the Senkaku/Diaoyu territorial disputes

    No full text
Territorial disputes remain a persistent source of tension in international relations, influencing diplomatic relations, national security, and regional stability. Japan faces disputes with China regarding the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands and the Kuril Islands/Northern Territories with Russia. While both share historical, legal, and geopolitical complexities, Japan responds differently to each dispute. The Senkaku/Diaoyu dispute has been approached through negotiations and diplomatic protests, while the Kuril dispute has been approached through negotiations and joint economic proposals. Despite substantial data on the Senkaku dispute, research on the Kuril dispute lacks data and sources. However, research has been conducted through comparative analysis of both under a unified theoretical framework. The research addresses this gap by incorporating Stephen Walt’s Balance of Threat (BoT) Theory to analyze Japan’s different perceptions of threat. Using qualitative comparative analysis from post–World War II (1952) to the 21st century, the research evaluates aggregate power, geographic proximity, offensive capability, and perceived aggressive intentions that shape Japan’s threat perception and influence its policy responses. Results show that China’s rising economic power, geographic proximity to the Senkaku Islands, and increased maritime incursions have elevated its perceived threat level. On the other hand, Russia’s distance, lower frequency of direct confrontations, and stable posture in Northeast Asia reduced its immediate threat perception. These findings highlight that Japan’s strategic prioritization between these disputes is not shaped by military strength capabilities but by the interplay of geography, behavior, and perceived intent. Understanding these dynamics offers insights for policymakers and scholars in analyzing security challenges in the geostrategic position and regional disputes

Workplace experiences of Filipino PWDs: A phenomenological study on ergonomics policies, accessibility, and organizational inclusion

    No full text
By examining how workplace ergonomics affect accessibility, inclusion, and employee well-being, this dissertation focuses on Filipino employees with disabilities within various sectors. The researchers adopted a qualitative phenomenological approach to investigate Filipino employees with disabilities and human resources professionals, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. There are significant flaws in implementing ergonomics standards for people with disabilities in the workplace. Participants noted that inaccessible infrastructure, uneven floors, and inadequate adaptations harm productivity, mobility, and well-being. Some companies have implemented flexible working arrangements or adaptable furniture, while others have adopted inconsistent or reactive approaches to ergonomics. Employees frequently had to battle for their accommodations owing to a lack of defined standard regulations. Despite these challenges, suitable ergonomic processes increased job satisfaction, less absenteeism, and more employee involvement. Diversity in the workforce must be promoted through fair hiring practices, disability awareness training, and accessible infrastructure to keep the workforce engaged and diverse. Based on universal design principles, this thesis advocates implementing proactive ergonomic practices to establish ergonomics regulations and to collaborate with organizations, such as the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office, to promote accessibility, inclusion, and wellness for employees
