The effects simulated herbivory on Pseuderanthemum grown in a greenhouse
Plants face numerous environmental pressures, including herbivory, which can impact their survival and fitness. This study simulated herbivory by mechanically damaging a common greenhouse weed species and assessed parameters such as photosynthetic efficiency and biomass recovery. Our results indicate that the plants that were noticeably healthier were more resilient to simulated herbivory.Biological SciencesHellquist, C. Eri
The influence of soil pH on the growth of Wisconsin Fast Plants
Soil pH influences optimal conditions for nutrient uptake and plant growth. We measured plant growth parameters including germination, height, biomass, photosynthetic efficiency, and flowering of Brassica rapa. Neutral pH was the best condition for growth followed by high pH and low pH.Biological SciencesHellquist, C. Eri
How does intergenotypic competition effect the growth of Brassica rapa?
We investigated how different levels of competition influenced the growth of Brassica genotypes. We measured the germination, plant height, and number of leaves of polycot and yellow-green Brassica genotypes. Initial indicators are that as competition increased the rate of plant growth decreased.Biological SciencesHellquist, C. Eri

How to Market a Public Institution's Gallery
Art galleries in institutions of higher education are central to enabling artistic involvement, cultural exchange, and professional development in students. Financial constraints are likely to confine, however, the extent to which they can promote themselves. Intelligent social media marketing strategies, specifically on Instagram, are the focus of this thesis, as an attempt to optimize visibility, interaction, and enhance the institutional profile. Using the Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery at SUNY Purchase College as a case study, this research combines findings from literature on digital marketing, survey responses, and comparative analysis with similar galleries at other colleges of higher education. The study finds gallery visitation to be overwhelmingly driven by intellectual requirements and peer networks rather than overall institutional familiarity.
In addition, Instagram analysis shows the largest engagement to occur with short-form video posting platforms, interactive installations, and continuous story posting. The main conclusions are maximizing the visibility of Instagram through strategic branding, broadening promotional reach across the arts populace, leveraging faculty partnerships to engage gallery viewing with courses, and developing more eclectic exhibition programming in order to bring more diverse constituents into the spaces. By combining marketing theory, data analysis, and case studies, this thesis provides an applicable model for social media teams and museum managers who seek to enhance digital presence and reach in art environments in higher education. The conclusions emphasize the importance of aligning marketing plans with institutional objectives, embracing trends in digital development, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to build a vibrant and diverse art gallery community.Purchase College SUNYArts ManagementBachelor of ArtsShue, Jordan E
The Advent of Social Media, Streaming, and The Rise of Multimedia Companies
In recent years, the music industry has undergone immense changes driven largely by the advent of streaming and social media. Before the internet, music was always distributed physically, from records to tapes to CDs. The internet is responsible for revolutionizing how music is consumed, created, promoted, and monetized. The days of fighting for radio and TV spots are over. Promotion and distribution have been democratized, granting anyone savvy enough the ability to reach a large audience. This has given rise to more independent artists and multimedia companies that focus on content creation, promotional strategies, and alternative revenue streams. As a result, record labels' roles and the importance of album sales have been greatly diminished. This paper will explore the shifting landscape of the music industry over the last several decades and how both artists and businesses alike have adapted, leading to the growth and influence of multimedia companies.Purchase College SUNYNew MediaBachelor of ArtsBell-Smith, Michae
El Jardín de los Entierros: Living, to Die
I am building a bridge between abstraction and representation to reveal the interconnectivity of the natural world, and sustainability of all life. Through the creation of rich, voluminous biomorphic bodies and new forms of organisms and mutations, parasitism is representing the existential need for connectivity in our perceptive world. With illustrative depictions of unconventional figures, new interpretation of the fated connection between life and death is explored.Purchase College SUNYPainting and DrawingBachelor of Fine ArtsLin, Cynthi
ORBIT
When it comes to being a designer, the expectation is that your practice will revolve around the needs of others. Coming to terms with this reality was not an easy step, so being given the opportunity to explore my own ideas wasn't taken for granted. With this newfound freedom I decided to create a pilot chapter for an original dystopian science-fiction comic called ORBIT. This chapter is composed of five pages, hung together as posters. Each page is densely packed with detailed illustrations using creative shot composition, lighting, and expressive figures. In addition to the five posters, there is also a collection of free zines on a podium below. These zines each include several standout panels from the comic, with a brief explanation of my artistic choices, characters, story, and inspiration. This project has pushed me to learn new skills like how to use drawing tablets and programs like Procreate. I also further developed skills I've already learned, like scanning traditional drawings, page layout and typography, logo design, exhibition setup, and more.
The idea that started the story of ORBIT was its setting, Satellite City. Inspired by the United States, Satellite City is a cluster of thousands of skyscraper-like space stations orbiting a deserted Earth, abandoned following an apocalyptic war. In Satellite City, plants are viewed as the most valuable resource, whether in food, medicine, art, or decoration. Despite being near-essential to human survival, plants are restricted only to those who can afford them, with that largely being just the wealthy. Here we meet Troy, a young, hard-working man trying to support himself and his family through his blue-collar job at ALL co. Unfortunately for Troy, working in this system isn't as rewarding as it should be, and he finds himself struggling financially. Through this chapter, we follow a day in the life of a working man, and the struggles he faces in Satellite City.Purchase College SUNYGraphic DesignBachelor of Fine ArtsTopal, Haka
