Evaluation of careless or insufficient effort responses given to scales

    No full text
Scales are commonly administered to participants in various studies, including those in psychology, sociology, and medicine; however, obtaining accurate results from these applied scales is often challenging due to participants typically providing careless or insufficient effort responses. In this study, Cattell's sabotage index and the modified fixed individualized chance (MFIC) score will be used to assess the effectiveness of these indices in identifying careless or insufficient effort responses, using data obtained through simulation. The purpose of the simulation study is to compare the performance of these indices based on metrics such as root mean square error (RMSE) and bias (BIAS). These comparisons will be conducted under varying conditions, taking into account factors such as scale type, the number of items, the number of reversed items, and sample size. The study aims to determine how these factors influence the occurrence of careless or insufficient effort responding across different scenarios. Cattell's sabotage index outperforms the modified fixed individualized chance (MFIC) score in identifying careless or insufficient effort responses. For Cattell's sabotage index, high performance is observed in large samples at a careless and insufficient effort response rate of 0.30

Collapse of a steel space truss roof due to rainwater and ponding effects

Inadequate drainage systems and ponding effects pose risks in long-span roof structures. This study investigates the collapse of a double-layer grid system roof of a terminal building after heavy rainfall due to rainwater accumulation and ponding effects. The terminal roof, supported by reinforced concrete columns, had long spans and cantilevered sections. To investigate the cause of the collapse, this paper presents a comprehensive collapse analysis by performing linear and nonlinear finite-element analyses and ponding analyses considering geometric nonlinearity. The recently developed program, TrussImp3D, was enhanced in this study to capture geometric and ponding nonlinearities, has been validated through comparisons with previously published analytical results. These comparisons demonstrate that the analysis model is both efficient and accurate in representing the behavior of roofs under ponding conditions leading to collapse. The results show that the rainwater load accumulated at the cantilever end due to an inadequate drainage system, and the ponding effect played a critical role in the collapse

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between spousal harmony and compassion in newlywed couples. There are many elements that are related to spousal harmony. Compassion is also one of the concepts that are related to spousal harmony. When we examine the studies on marriage conducted in Turkey, no direct source was found that investigated the relationship between spousal harmony and compassion in the context of spiritual counseling. 294 people who were married for 0-5 years and resided in Tekirdağ, Bursa and Istanbul provinces participated in our study. After the application of the Renewed Dyadic Adjustment Scale and Compassion Scale, a significant relationship was determined between the spousal harmony and compassion feelings of married couples with the relational screening model. In addition, when we examine the research result in terms of demographic variables; while spousal harmony did not show a significant difference according to gender, age and age difference between spouses, it showed a negative significant difference with the status of having children

    No full text
Elderberry fruit leather was produced using RSM to evaluate the effects of hot air drying (60, 65, 70 degrees C), sucrose concentration (12, 14, 16 %), and thickness (2, 3, 4 mm) on total phenolic content (TPC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) via DPPH, CUPRAC, FRAP and total monomeric anthocyanin (TMA) during in-vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Samples exhibited a decrease in TPC, TAC (except-DPPH), and TMA after-digestion. Increased sucrose enhanced TAC-DPPH in post-gastric and post-intestinal phases, while higher temperature boosted TAC in undigested samples but reduced TPC. Elderberry phenolics (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS) (mg/kg) included protocatechuic acid (7.02), p-salicylic acid (3.39), rutin (2.72), and gallic acid (1.66). Main anthocyanins were cyanidin-3glucoside (110.79), cyanidin-3-sophoroside (8.09), and pelargonidin-3-glucoside (1.31). Processing improved L* and hue degrees, while decreasing a*, b*, Chroma. Optimum conditions were 70 degrees C, 15.5 % sucrose, and 4 mm. Elderberry was transformed into a non-seasonal functional snack with enhanced nutritional properties and high market potential

Çalışma, Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 36 No'lu Ertuğrul Eğitim Aile Sağlığı Merkezi ile Bursa İli genelinde hizmet veren 24 aile sağlığı merkezi biriminde prospektif müdahale tipinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Strengthening father-infant attachment during the prenatal period is critical for healthy family dynamics and optimal child development. Given the inadequacy of antenatal education services for expectant fathers in Türkiye, developing digital technology-based interventions to support prenatal paternal attachment in primary healthcare services is of great importance. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of WhatsApp-based antenatal education intervention on prenatal paternal attachment and paternal anxiety levels. The study was conducted as a prospective intervention study at Bursa Uludag University Faculty of Medicine Ertugrul Family Health Center No. 36 and 24 family health center units providing services throughout Bursa province. Participants were administered the Structured Data Collection Form, Paternal-Fetal Attachment Scale, and Spielberger Trait Anxiety Inventory. Following a seven-session WhatsApp-based education intervention, scales were reapplied and pre-test post-test comparison was conducted with 39 participants. A significant increase in participants' prenatal paternal attachment levels was found after the intervention; however, no significant change was observed in trait anxiety levels. Most demographic and obstetric factors did not affect intervention effectiveness, demonstrating the applicability of digital education intervention across a broad spectrum. The finding that participants with "partially ready" fatherhood readiness perception showed higher attachment increases was among the interesting findings of the study. Despite participants providing low rates of feedback regarding the education intervention sessions, the received feedback draws attention to the informative and anxiety-reducing effects of the intervention. In conclusion, WhatsApp-based antenatal education intervention is effective in strengthening prenatal paternal attachment. It is considered beneficial to increase the use of this cost-effective, accessible, and feasible digital intervention format in primary healthcare services

Active safety systems can be defined as systems that operate during driving to prevent potential accidents and increase driving safety. Anti-lock braking systems (ABS), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and electronic brake systems (EBS) can be given as examples. These systems, which are found in both passenger and commercial vehicles, are continuously being developed and updated due to the customer expectations and regulatory requirements. Among them, ABS holds a leading position in terms of both historical development and functional significance. In this study, a brake model and two controllers—one based on slip and the other on acceleration—were developed in the Matlab/Simulink environment. Together with the IPG TruckMaker software, a complete co-simulation infrastructure was set. The system performance was tested on two different heavy-duty vehicles. In addition, an irregularity that could occur in real life was simulated by replacing one of the front wheels of the aforementioned vehicles with a wheel of different radius. The performance of the developed controllers and the effect of the resulting outputs on vehicle dynamics were evaluated using quantitative data. It was concluded that the developed controllers were successful in maintaining vehicle stability

A rare case of conjunctival hibernoma in a von hippel-lindau (vhl) patient: Possible association?

    No full text
Purpose Ocular involvement is exceedingly uncommon, and to date, no conjunctival hibernoma has been reported in humans. We present the first such case in a patient with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome.Case report A 32-year-old woman with genetically confirmed type 1 VHL disease presented with a long-standing, progressively enlarging, painless subconjunctival mass in her only functional eye. Systemic history included multiple cerebellar hemangioblastomas, bilateral nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma, and an endolymphatic sac tumor. Ophthalmic examination revealed a firm, elevated, subepithelial nodular lesion on the bulbar conjunctiva of the left eye, partially prolapsing beyond the palpebral fissure. The lesion was non-tender, non-ulcerated, and showed no surface inflammation. The eye had phthisis bulbi and residual retinal hemangioblastoma. Orbital magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm homogeneous, well-circumscribed lesion, hyperintense on T2-weighted fat-suppressed images, confined to the conjunctiva without scleral, orbital, or bony involvement. Surgical excision revealed a cream-gray, lobulated mass composed of multivacuolated eosinophilic cells with granular cytoplasm. Immunohistochemistry showed strong S-100 positivity and low Ki-67, consistent with hibernoma. Despite a positive deep margin, the patient declined further surgery; no recurrence was observed at three months. Conclusion This is the first documented case of conjunctival hibernoma in humans and the second reported association with VHL. Conjunctival hibernoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of vascular conjunctival lesions, particularly in patients with VHL

    No full text
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the moderating role of university environmental performance in the relationship between students' environmental awareness and behavior, with a particular focus on the imperative for universities to adopt comprehensive sustainability frameworks.Design/methodology/approachUsing a quantitative research methodology, the study administered a survey to 775 undergraduate students from diverse academic departments at a public university. The survey aimed to assess students' environmental awareness, behaviors and perceptions of university environmental performance. The Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Friedman test were applied, and a simple moderation analysis was performed.FindingsThe results indicate that environmental awareness significantly influences students' environmental behaviors. Crucially, the perception of environmental performance moderates the relationship between environmental awareness and behavior. The relationship between environmental awareness and environmental behaviors becomes stronger when environmental performance increases.Research limitations/implicationsWhile the scope of this research is limited to a single institution, potentially limiting the generalizability of the findings, future studies could extend this investigation to multiple universities to confirm and expand upon these results.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the existing body of literature by emphasizing the critical role universities play in cultivating students' environmental awareness and behaviors, and it underscores the importance of institutional environmental performance in promoting sustainable practices within academic environments. Although previous research has explored environmental awareness and behavior, this study offers a unique contribution as it establishes a connection between the awareness-behavior gap and environmental performance

Ayrıca bu çalışmanın gelecekte sosyal medya arşivleme konusundaki başka araştırmalara kaynaklık edebileceği, sosyal medya arşivlemesi ile ilgilenen kurumların ve araştırmacıların karşılaşabileceği sorunlara karşın yol gösterici olabileceği düşünülmektedir.Purpose: Social media has become an essential part of human life today. The increasing use of social media, which people use to communicate and interact with one another, has enabled it to be used in many areas besides communication. This has made it an archival object that needs to be preserved/archived for the future. However, this situation has also created some problems. This study aims to explain the technical, legal, and ethical issues encountered when archiving social media content. Method: In this study, which was carried out using the descriptive method, a literature review was conducted through library, internet research, and database examination regarding the problems encountered in social media archiving. Findings: The challenges encountered in archiving social media have been evaluated under three categories: technical, legal, and ethical. Technical challenges include selecting social media content, capturing and collecting it, identifying, protecting, accessing, structuring, and managing the volume and types of content, as well as a lack of digital skills and issues related to APIs. Legal issues include platform terms of service, developer policies, intellectual property, and copyright. Ethical challenges encompass informed consent and privacy issues. Implications: Since social media archiving relies on the platforms and the terms of service and policies established by them, it is expected that the technical, legal, and ethical issues surrounding social media content will continue, and these challenges must be addressed. Originality: This study is one of the pioneering studies that explains the technical, legal, and ethical problems of social media archiving in Turkey. It is also thought that this study can be a resource for future studies on social media archiving and will guide institutions and researchers dealing with social media archiving against the issues they may encounter

Management of mechanical ventilation and weaning in critically ill patients with neuromuscular disorders

    No full text
Purpose: Myasthenia-gravis and Guillain-Barre-syndrome are two of the most common causes of acute and reversible neuromuscular-respiratory-failure(ARNRF), both may worsen respiratory-failure and need for invasive-mechanical-ventilation(IMV) for long-periods due to muscle-weakness. However, approitive IMV-mode for ARNRF patients that better gas-exchange and weaning in ARNRF remain unclear. Materials and methods: Critically-ill-patiens with IMV due to ARNRF, who could meet the weaning-criterias (after intubation for more than 7-days; difficult-weaning), between 2013, and 2023 were included in the study. IMV-settings, simultaneous arterial-blood-gas (ABG) analyses, and prognosis were recorded for each patient on relevant days. Results: Sixty-critically-ill-patients with ARNRF who defined as difficult-weaning were included in the study. When different IMV-modes were used in the same patient, simultaneous ABG results were compared for each ventilation-mode. It was determined that the partial-pressure-of-oxygen/fraction of inspired-oxygen-ratios were significantly higher and partial-carbon-dioxide-levels were significantly lower when critically-ill-patients were ventilated with the biphasic-positive-airway-pressure-ventilation(BIPAP) (95 % CI: [0.641–1.41]; p < .001; 95 % CI: [-1.05-.351]; p < .001, respectively). Length-of-time-until-weaning was significantly shorter in BIPAP-mode for each patient in the study group(95 % CI: [0.717–0.188]; p < .001). Moreover, weaning-success was statistically higher in patients with ARNRF were ventilated with BIPAP one-week-before spontenous-breathing-trial (95 % CI [1.026–21.65]; p = .046) than with all other IMV-modes. Conclusion: According to our findings, when BIPAP was selected as the IMV-settings, gas exchange was improved, and weaning-success was higher in critically-ill-patients with ARNRF
